:hatsoff2:HI ALL. THIS YEAR WILL BE 50 YEARS OF RARE SOUL, BACK THEN THERE WAS STILL A DEVELOPING YOUTH CULTURE IN THE UK, AFTER ALL IT HAD ONLY BEEN RECOGNISED FOR 10 YEARS OR SO, WITH YOUR TEDDY BOYS, BEATNIKS, BAN THE BOMB LEFT WING STUDENTS, MODS & ROCKERS, HOWEVER IT'S THE MOD SCENE THAT HAS IT'S ROOTS IN US R&B MUSIC AS WELL THE INFLUANCE OF CARABEIAN CULTURE & MUSIC,WHICH DEVELOPED IN CELLERS OF OLD HOUSES IN WHAT WAS THE BLACK AREAS OF LARGE CITYS, FOLLOWING ON FROM THE RIOTS IN SHEPARDS BUSH, THE BLACK MUSIC SCENE WENT UNDERGROUND, AS SUCH THE MODS FOLLOWED, IN LONDON MANY FAMOUS BUT SHORT LIVED CLUBS SERVERD THE BLACK COMMUNITY WITH ALL NIGHT BLUES,GAMBLING HOUSES WHICH PLAYED THE JAMAICAN SOUNDS OF THE DAY, LIKE MOST MUSIC SCENES OF THE DAY DANCE MUSIC IS A THROW AWAY SCENE AS THE DJ WAS THE TOP DOG, TO KEEP THE CLUB RUNNING HIS RECORDS WERE A SECRET AND HE WOULD NOT LET ANYONE KNOW IT'S TRUE IDENTITY PLAYED.

AS THE 6TS MOVED ON THE R&B CLUBS STARTED PLAYING MORE UPBEAT BLACK MUSIC, & EVEM THE NAME CHANGED FROM R&B TO SOUL, SOME PEOPLE FROM TIN PAN ALLEY SAW A MARKET IN BLACK MUSIC THAT WAS NOT IDENTIFYED AS WORTHY OF RADIO PLAY, BUT PEOPLE LIKE RONAN O'RILRY HAD A NEW APPROACH BY PLAYING MUSIC FROM A SHIP, THIS WAS CALLED PIRATE RADIO, CAROLINE, RADIO LONDON TOOK TO THE AIR WAVES FROM 1963 TO 67 WHEN NEW LAWS ON BROADCASTING WERE INTRODUCED, MOST ALLNIGHTERS WERE BY WORD OF MOUTH, THESE WERE LOCATED IN THE NORTH & IN LONDON,WHERE THE FIRST RECOGNISED ALLNIGHTER STARTED, CALLED THE SCENE CUB IN GT WINDMILL STREAT IN SOHO THE MUSIC POLICY WAS A MIXTURE OF US BLACK R&B, JAMAICAN SKA & ROCK STEADY.

I would like to think that we have the passion of the worlds longest running Youth Sub Culture, To celebrate 50 years of rare soul, it would be good if you could make at least once a week to pick a sound that you feel hits your soul, the choice is yours alone, however still dig out those 45s that the night has made you expose it to the world via SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2018.

MY FIRST PICK WILL FOLLOW ON SHORTLEY AS I STILL CAN'T GET MY HEAD AROUND MY PC TRANSFERING MUSIC FROM MY COLLECTION INTO A MUSIC LIBARY, IT'S NOT FARE, ANYWAY PLEASE TRY TO CELABRATE 50+ YEARS OF SOUL. BELOW ARE SOME OF MY MEMORIES OF 50 YEARS, IF YOU HAVE PICTURES OF LAST 50 YEARS THAT RELATE TO THIS THREAD POST THEM PLEASE

Great tune Bruv.I believe it was covered up in the early days as The Black Ship To Hell which is how it feels these days when i try to dance to it 😅

Yes I know it's not Jimmy Ricks & Jimmy will always be the daddy but I love this version,a beat fast so makes for a better dancer imo.

Cheryl Glasgow - Glued To The Spot. (live Records (alive 2)

***************************************************************

Haven't put much up of late so back to 1987 to my 'Scunthorpe Baths Hall' days, Fabulous Jazzy Soul Feel that really gets under your skin and hits the spot, And not easy to find these days, just love Cheryls Sultry Voice and  that wonderful Horn Rift, Very Catchy, and Just Ripe again for todays Soul Scene.

There is a 7" inch Version but this is the 12" version which i prefer.

I haven't contributed to the club for some considerable time although I check in on a regular basis to enjoy the fantastic sounds here! Thanks everyone for your very valuable contributions to the forum. I have lost track of which of my records I've posted previously so this one may be a repost. I don't visit my box very often but just lately have had this one lying around after being turned on to it by Mark Sargeant who my lass rates very highly. Here on the Sag Port label is Sensational Five.

this ones proper old ,had it given by a customer that lonely nighy / george jackson , got it on cameo records , but think it was released on a local label first

Had the Martha Reeves & The Vandellas  Gordy Album Black Magic arrive yesterday from the States.

Cheap way of having No One There in one's Box!    :hatsoff2:

Picked the Sapphires - Gonna Be A Big Thing up a couple of months ago, before anyone tells me I know the Yum Yums nailed the song.

But I got to love this Sapphires version from buying like a lot of people did in the late 1970's the white ABC reissue copy with Eddie Regan - Playing Hide And Seek on the flip, just need to get an original of Eddie and then Happy Days!  :)

Love that label design.

Added this Pure Dynamite Sound from The Royal Esquires - Ain't Gonna Run to the box this week..

Before the sciatica laid me low, I played the other side of The Power of Love, which is actually the A.

Struck me as a nice RnB fingersnapper, if such a thing exists:

Amanda Humphrey Call on Me:

A long time want has just come my way, this goes rather nicely with the other one I've got of hers & her better known one (Little Annie) on the same label.

Another that won't be everyone's cuppa but I love it.

Might as well post the other for those who don't know it (Little Annie)

Anna Belle Caesar - I've Got My Man Glad Hamp

Had Sam And Dave - Soothe Me turn up today, I had the live version in the collection for many years and never got round to getting the original version until now.

Long term want arrived this week, Patti & The Emblems - I'm Gonna Love You A Long Long Time. for me this is Northern Soul Perfection.....

  • 2 weeks later...

Had the Superlatives - I Still Love You arrive this week, great old school sound...…….

listening to the LP as I type this, the song was re-issued recently but decided to get the original LP, another sad story of a soul talent taken by drug abuse

Not put 1 up for while so its up tempo & cheap as chips as they say few knockin' around on Discogs & even JM got it cheap too !

The Bobbettes - Tighten Up Your Own(Home) - Mayhew

Had Eddie Regan - Playin Hide And Seek turn up today, this was another Sound from the Casino era I really enjoyed hearing when I got into Soul/Northern Soul in the late 1970's...:)

Nice - sounds like she's trying very hard to sound like Corey Day/Dr Buzzard.

Been a While Part two.......Great intro too by the way!     Enjoy   **Rick**

Rick, it's getting cold here and I feel a chill in my bones

Two good sides with this one which was surprisingly new to me until I heard it on one of Ian Levine's excellent pod casts.

Hence acquisition became a priority, £10-£20 should secure a decent copy.

Sounding a  little on the Detroit funky side a la Parliaments , no surprise with Don Davis being involved.

The Mad Lads - Love is Here Today and Gone Tomorrow Volt

Edited by Mick Sway

been going through an LP thing recently, this has aged well I think

and this one is pure Cleethorpes for me, lovely town, another great LP

Latest addition to the box for me, Serious Foot Tapper...…..Frankie Crocker's - Ton Of Dynamite
