Nothing lasts forever but it can be remembered a lot longer than it lasts, Good Soul music like all good music will be remembered longer hopefully forever,  but the artists and musicians who made the music are mostly too old and have passed away, It might be and I say Might in a very questionable way that A1 if perfected to replicate the sounds we love and I refer to my particular favourite period of soul music which is circa 1960 to 1975 that A1 will bridge a gap to make sure those sounds and artists will never be forgotten , We know they will never be replaced but it may be a precious tool in keeping the music immortal and the memories immortal. It’s up to the people listening if it is acceptable and we all know that’s going to be a very big ask with the Soul lovers on this site, Let’s hope that A1 just gets better and produces the goods to make it happen,

There is still loads of stuff out there I have never heard or own to keep me going for the rest of my life, I suppose if your taste in soul is mainly northern maybe most of the stuff is out there ? but my taste in soul is all sorts so al is never going to be needed to get my fix still loads to hear and be amazed at for me.

Here, here, nail on head  👏

I would be interested to hear the AI output of something  everyone knows like  maybe Sam Fletchers I’d think it over

Then  listen to  the results and  see what turns up

Funny you’ve mentioned that… I’ve said this to friends already but I’m expecting people to start using it to generate alternate versions with different vocalists and pressing them up

Mm, but who would buy them? I wouldn't have thought it was a very good business model.

I suspect Peter it's already happening , you've only got to listen to some of the recent releases on a certain label from deepest Leicestershire  , aimed at the dance floor , limited copies making them cherishable , until the next batch is released 😉

Answer don't  buy them !!

There's a few on Spotify already, mainly jokey stuff. It's vaguely interesting in it's way.

Interestingly I think that there's more of an eventual market for it in Northern Soul than many other places - if you could get something that sounds authentic you could do what Ian Levine tried to to with The Four Vandals and try and pass it off as a newly discovered tape or something. Now that would be quite interesting.

the tech to make what you want has been about for ages

but as my old dad used to say ' nobody wants a nine bob note'

as the Biker Grove Cast sung 'just say no'

And there were a few Dj,s well known who fell for it, no offence to them but I would not have been one bit fooled with that four vandals sound, I trust A1 has much improved from The Four Vandals  effort so some of them might possibly be fooled again LoL,

Have a great weekend

Yes, there was something about the Four Vandals - I think the harmonies, or part of the production which sounded absolutely not 1960's to me. But AI versions take no real effort so I think someone's going to try.

Imagine a world where all future music is AI generated.   If only you could live to see the possible benefits of even greater inflated costs of original vinyl.  Plus how sad will it be where you probably cannot see a band/singer live, other than at your local pub if they still exist.

Not for me. Black America left us a huge legacy of great soul music that is far from fully discovered even now. The original talents came up with original works. AI would just be basing itself on these recordings and adding nothing new to them

To play devil's advocate, this not being any sort of hill I want to die on, very little music by humans is truly original - that's how you get genres.

Most of the stuff we listen to was people trying to copy Stax or Motown.

And AI tracks are original, they're just not by people.

To me it pretty much comes down to this: if you can create a new AI track that sounds as good as Count The Days then great, I'll listen, and if I was 20 again, and I didn't know it was AI (and I wouldn't if it's just some DJ's latest alleged cover-up) I'd dance to it, too.

If you create the 4 Vandals, no ta.

And computing power suggests the former will probably happen, and quite soon.
