Weller was at the Edwin Starr gig at the Embassy Club in London, early 80s. But that's probably the only time i saw the poseur

I heard he really likes the music and listens to it often but what format i dont know and was known to of visited the odd venue in the distant past and recently been seen at one of Kebs doos in Soho somewhere, i will try and find a blog on it on a tribute website somewhere i see a couple of years ago

Saw him at The Le Beat Route in Soho in the early 80's , seemed really into it .Also his radio 2 shows were superb a couple of years back some great sides played out of his collection , and some real obscure stuff too .Best ,Eddie

I bumped into him in the loo at a launch party for a Northern Soul DVD and thought he was Eddie Piller from Acid Jazz.....

There's an awful lot of people down here who claim to be into Northern and I'm sure they are to an extent but I'm also sure there's a lot of revisionism going on as well.

I reckon Marc got into Northern in the very late 70's/early 80's - I don't think he went to the Casino although I think Dave Ball did. He only recorded "Tainted Love" after he heard me play it at a Q.Tips gig @ Leeds Warehouse in '81, so it's my fault LOL.......

Makes sense. He used to have quite a few Selecta boots of the bigger titles and Soft Cell formed at Leeds Poly anyway. The more popular Northern Soul titles were considered to be cool with the student types, along with Electro Pop, Gothic, Disco and Hi-NRG stuff and Marc used to run some nights in Leeds along those lines with Annie Hogan deejaying at the old Phonographique I believe........

Also highly bizarre that he had another hit with his cover of Judy Street's "What" which I found in L.A. in '76 although that had nothing to do with me at the time.........

In the Wigan Casino book by Russ it mentions MA asking about Tainted Love at the Casino or it may be in the Top 500 Singles book. Not sure which. Never got the books back after lending them.

Remember Mick Talbot (Style Council) at the 100 club early '80s (only the once though) and his brother Danny,who was friend of ours (Paul Franklin, Lenny RIP etc) being a bit of regular at one time. Never saw Weller there though.

I think that was another regular (not 6TS) night he was there. He was well behaved on our night.

With reference to Ian Dewhirst's earlier posting ......

Aah , " Le Phonograph " up in t'Merrion Centre in Leeds ......

I DJ'd there in 1969 , as a favour to one of the guys who I worked with , who ran a midweek night there .....

I think he was taking the urine having me on , as the night was a " progressive " music night , featuring live acts .....

At first , I turned it down , believing it to be against my ethics in doing such a night , , but was soon swayed by the promise of being paid well for doing it ......

I provided the music entertainment in between the sets for such big names at the time , such as Hawkwind , Jethro Tull , Joe Cocker & The Grease Band ( before their rise to fame at Woodstock ) , Taste , Family , Chicken Shack to name but a few .....

Talk about the christians being thrown to the lions ; at first the crowd they got in were hostile towards me and my music , but as the weeks went on , they " mellowed " due to being actively pissed or stoned , or both - and some even danced * .......

( * I will say it before others do - " nothing's changed much, has it ? " ...... )

Maybe he is getting senile (Ady, not Weller). My mate reckoned that his uncle was Paul Weller's cousin's milkman. And he almost made it the first time I went to the 100 Club except his scooter broke down and he never made the train and I've never seen him since. Does that almost count?

Wilksy should be able to confirm, but some of the older Welsh lads (LOL) tell me that Dave Ball was a regular at Soul nights over this way in the late 70s.

Noel attended the 100club anniversary back in the 9ts just before wonderwall was released, Actually now i think back it was after The Who played a small secret gig in west london, The main soul fan in oasis is Gemm Archer, he had his wedding anniversary at the capitol soul club. His wife is an ex northern souie from yorkshire (i think). Marc Almond is a big fan and keeps bang upto date with stuff....Alan used to him tapes from the capitol. Also there was the boys from Dodgy who were Capitol/100 club regulars for a short while.....i remember the buzzcocks coming to the 100 but they were there just for a late drink ..... Oh those were the days lol

saw him a couple of times at local nighter but he never did 'the tours' on the coaches like the rest of us.

Especially the night he turned up with sick all down his front.

"Solid Bond" very nearly became the Jam's last single - I sat in a hotel room in Weymouth with PW one night, en route for some shows in the Channel Islands, and he played me acetates of both that track and "Beat Surrender" and asked me which I would choose as their 'next' single (he hadn't yet announced that he was splitting the Jam up). I went for "Solid Bond" - and I have always believed that Paul went with "Beat Surrender" because he didn't want to 'waste' the other song on a group that was coming to its end...
