and dont give you the big "ive got that at home" "got this n that" "paid ££££s for this/that the

other week" "had that for years" etc, these people stand out like sore thumbs dont they? why is there so many bullshi**ers on the collectors scene, n why do they do it? is it a ego thing or just do they

think we dont see it n think there the elites? come on without naming or shaming we all know someone/or people like this? or am i the only person who sees n hears it?

Of course we all know people like that, but they're peeps are usually people with very few friends or other exciting things to do, so they try to boost their ego's by bragging about their collections.

Although I have to admit that I too like the feeling of finding a record cheap and seeing it sold for ££££ by someone the next week, bragging on it on public forums is another thing.

But I've always had the feeling that this bragging doesn't happen too often on this forum. It's more about sharing knowledge and I hope it stay that way! (although I have to admit that the "got this for £30 back in the 80's"-comments tend to pop up quite often)

What about the people who walk round venues with records that cost a fortune, and say its a selling box make me offers!! They have NO intention of selling, but LOVE in all the ATTENTION they get from collectors/punters.

Everytime someone makes an offer they say they will have to get back to them as its promised to someone else!!!! Unless they meet a mug with way too much money!!

I know what you mean but if someone says to me I have "so and so" at home I accept it at face value. How do you know they haven't. You must be thinking of particular instances. Without naming names,although it would be more fun if you did, could you give us a few examples of blatant story telling.

Once apprehended a reasonably well known 'face' around the bizarres at a Nighter in the Midlands, who was carrying around a copy of a known in demand rareity, I asked is that for sale, they replied in the positive & being wadded that weekend, I said I'll take it off ya hands then.........after some coughing, spluttering & what have you, they disappeared into the etha still in possession of the disc & bathing in the reflected glory.......a few years later, I managed to snag a copy of the disc off another dealer & low & behold, when it arrived it was the same copy that had eluded me that night a few years before as there was a distinguishing 'mark' on the label.................sooooooooooo it alway's was going to be mine one way or the other.

Junking locally a few years back & bumped into a local British Motown collector, we had a brief conversation, which the store owner was listening to also & I can only imagine the bloke was trying to impress the store owner, as when we discussed my latest Motown aquisition, which at the time was Virgil Henry - You Aint Saying Nothing New.......he say's 'oh yeah' I have that on British............I did say Im pretty sure this never got a UK release, so questioned the said collector further, only to be ridiculed over my lack of knowledge over British released Motown...............as I disappeared with my tail between my legs, thinking what a w**ker, I thought I must check that out as Im sure that its bollox.........however I never did & I bet some one now tells me, that it came out as a b side of a reissue or some such thing......

hey Russ....this thread makes a change......talking about collectors.Everyone who's been about a few years will have umpteen tales about tunes it's just the way it's always been....do what i do don't talk about records at allnighters......talk about scary things it's much more fun.....by the way I bought in the 80's the aeroplane song,lady in green,ester grant and don gardner for a £1 each from tim brown

i agree with your comments, this thread isnt a slure on anyone by the way, and like you say doesnt seem to happen to often on this site, seems to be more when out n about talking to people.

but lately seems to be getting worse and rather embarrassing.

This kind of comment or post dose not bother me at all, what dose bother me sometimes in the form of nightmares is thinking about all the records I sold for £30 and a lot less in the 80's probable to the people that brag about buying at that price! ....................Mind you my therapy to get over this is now i buy records i really like not what is keeping the dance floor happy

I was thinking similar, they must be bloody nuts ! Most people i've come across with really good collections are usually reluctant to even let you handle them in their own home, let alone take em out to a do !

We were watching the half-yard of ale contest, and someone announced as "Little Eddie Knight" came up to drink his half-yard of an ale called "Big Lamp", prompting us to "invent" a record called "Half a yard" by Little Eddie Knight, on Big Lamp. We mentioned it a few times as a joke - it was surprising how many poeple had heard it, or used to have a copy.

Just going off on a tangent slightly re the point Russ made about the record coming back to him. Has anyone ever had records come back that they have let go ? e.g. records that you had (dare i say it ) initialed or marked in some way which you sold on or swapped only to purchase them again years down the line ?

Gary would like to see his collection, you can only just get in his bedroom for record boxes, i'm sure there are records in there that he's not seen since he got them. Persuaded him to DJ a couple of time upstairs at Stafford, play blinding sets each time, but was shitting him self all the way through, never used the mic once. A great mate and a nice bloke

i seem to recall he drank it standing on his head (very impressive).....the label design suggested was black paper with a yellow bulb logo.....(Dave Alcock was going to design it...artistic chap that he was)...happy days

Right - since Virgil Henry is a 1972 recording, I don't think we'd have missed it, also I believe it was picked up from COLOSSUS records, so I doubt Motown had the right to release it overseas anyway! - 'course, it could have come out on Polydor.....
