Toronto Record Show sunday, not as productive as normal but did get:

Kenni Woods - Cant He Take A Hint - Phillips - Canadian

Mel Torme - Coming Home Baby - Atlantic - Canadian

The Exotics - title escapes me at the moment - Canadian

Lee Williams - Carnival

Lenis Guess - Just Ask Me - SPQR - Orange label, is this a pucker re-issue?

Little Esther Phillips - I Really Dont Want To Know - UK Ember - havent played this yet, from 1963.

The Impressions - Sad Sad Girl And Boy - Sparton from 1963, never seen this one before

and a handful of classics from Jackie Wilson, Peaches and Herb, Ultra High Frequency, Spiral Starecase, Al Wilson, Jan Bradley, Hokis Pokis, Nathaniel Mayer at a buck each.

Also got some nice sleeves, Vee Jay, Jamie/Guyden, Modern, Okeh, Stone also at a buck each.

Unfortunatley I stood behing a bloke who picked up the Jackie Shane on Canadian Modern for $5 and also missed a huge Bobby Bland concert poster for $20.

Forris Woods - Stoned On Love - Abbot

Soul Notes - How Long Will It Last - Way Out

Benny Gordon - Turn On Your Love Light - Wand....heard this on a CD given to a friend at Lifeline, awesome tune......first thing I did when I got home at 10am was start searching the net for a copy!

Adam.

Went to Ann Arbor for their Soul Nite Friday and spent the Saturday mooching about Ann Arbor, lovely little town and 3 Record Shops in the town centre as well, came away with the following from Encore for $23:

Bobby Taylor - Just A Little Bit Closer - Mowest

Johnnie Mae Matthews - The Headshrinker - Sue

The Holidays - Love You Forever - Golden World

Sister Sledge - Go Thru No Changes - Atco

The Four Exceptions - You Got The Power - Parkway promo

and on the way out of town from the Salvation Army I picked up Atlantic Starr - Circles and a handle of Mint Rock and Roll picture Sleeves for 25c each.

The other stores were Wazoo and Underground but no 45's in either of them. Encore has about a dozen boxes of R&B 45's but this includes all types and era's but as you can see above it was worth the 30 - 40 mins to go through them.

motherlode - what does it take --revolver 004 (up there with electrifying cashmeres version )

george jackson - that lonely night -- cameo 460 ( dancer stafford spin i believe awsome)

hot sauce - bring it home -- volt 4076 ( so good love this cheap as, try not nodding along oh yes )

finishing touch - second best -- philly groove ( dancer of the highest quality sounds great out )

timmy mcnaely - whats going on -- truth and soul (copy of marvins classic cheap not long released )

can anyone tell me if lv johnson released got to get rid of you the jj barnes classic probably on the same label volt

AFTER AN AWFULLY LONG TIME ON THE WANTS LIST

OK, so, before I add my two cents to this thread, I want to know about this record.

Because

1) This song is absolutely freakin' brilliant - can't stop playing it, and

2) where does stuff like this get played??

I really don't know what would happen if I played something like this out here in the States - of course, the audience always surprises me; I tried out a personal R&B favorite, John Lee Hooker's "Let's Go Out Tonight," recently, and it packed the dance floor. But regardless, I want to know what nights in the UK play stuff of this caliber?

So, anyway, a few recent acquisitions, as part of my resolution to take a more active participation in Soul-Source's life... all purchased over the weekend.

Velvet Satins - Nothing Can Compare to You - General Am. (white demo)

Mosquitoes - The "Fly" - Spear (rare pittsburgh boot of Manny Corchado)

Derek Martin - Daddy Rollin Stone - Crackerjack (totally unplayed mint, to replace my beater)

Jackie Ross - Dynamite Lovin' - Chess (didn't actually buy it this weekend, but lost it ages ago and found it while cleaning up!)

Del Vikings - Welfare Blues - Fee Bee (funky soul feat. Chuck Corby lead vocals)

Gospel Pearls LP

(...plus, not soul but the rarest of all, Bob & Ron Copper U.S. folkways LP release from 1964 for $3! Hyper-rare Sussex folk singing that nobody but me likes... hence $3...)

awright,

Awesome!!....bloody awesome!

It would grace any R&B room in the U.K.

Little Jewel - I Want To - Tayster - what is a current value for this? 30 quid in Martin's guide and 100 pounds on John's site? Looks to consistently sell for $100 on Popsike?

Imperial Wonders - Black Prince

Bob Kuban - The Cheater - Canadian Barry

Forgot to mention:

The Outer Limits - Just One More Chance - Deram

Bobby Wilding - I Want To - DCP - not sure about this one, books in Martin's guide but doesnt really do anything for me?

Yesterday I drove 45 mins to view a collection of approx 5,000 45's which the guy wanted $400 for. Unfortunately, or as expected, they turned out to be a pile of junk, lots of Country, 70's pop etc, and after sifting through I came home with:

The Impressions - Cant Satisfy - ABC

The Larks - The Jerk - Reo

Verdelle Smith - A Piece Of The Sky - Capitol

and nestling all on its own, no sleeve, was:

Little Charles - Its A Heartache - Canadian Decca for $1!! I spent a grand total of $10.
