I remember as an over keen 15 year at Cleethorpes WG around 1976 asking for 'Long after tonight is all over' about 5 times until it got played. Thinking back, this was a venue that played newies mostly, and I must have really got up the DJ's noses. Sorry for that.......................

Well this girl(no names mentioned) Who was what they called in the day a "divvy",Had latched on to our crew from Radcliffe,So Tommy asks for people to come up on stage and dance with him,

Up she gets Miss X never been to Wigan before, And there she is live on stage with Tommy Hunt and the massed crowds at the Casino,And starts to dance the "Slosh"

Now to the folk that don't know the "Slosh" was the dance that your mum and aunty did at weddings,when they go side to side and clap their hands behind their legs

You could not dig a hole big enough,when she came off stage and started to hug us all afterwards

I was 15 and had been going to Wigan for about 2 months, and made my first trip to the Mecca. For some reason, I remember it was 29 Dec 1973. I went up to Colin Curtis & asked for "You Broke My Heart In Two". He said he didn't know it!. Feckin' Mecca DJs . He played it about 2 records later & I found out it was Frankie Beverly "If That's What You Wanted", strangely I still feel embarrased to this day .

Believe it or not a couple of years ago i got asked for "Eye of the tiger" Harry & i were double deckin when i told him he said to the bloke "eye of the tiger " mate , when i get off this stage you'll get "Eye of the panda" He didnt ask for any other requests xxxxx

What about Stevie Wonder finishing a show in Japan and being asked to play "A Jazz Chord" not having a clue what the girl meant he asked her to sing the chorus and sets of in true karaoke fashion "A Jazz Chord to Sai A Ruview"

A few years ago I was playing 'Ghost in My House' when some chimp came up and said 'Can you play the other side' I replied 'Ive not Got It' he wandered off came back and said 'Are you taking the mickey? to which I said 'no Im playing the lp version'

At the Blue Skies Christmas party last year I was double decking with Dave of Walls Of Heartache. Towards the end of our set a great big bloke in a baseball cap came up to us with an LP in his hand. He asked us to play some "Northern Soul" from it: Skiing In The Snow by Wigans Ovation would you believe?

Dave and I were both quite surprised and I fell back on the standard answer: "ask the next guy on, we've sorted out what we're going to play" rather than be rude, after all he was far bigger than me, lol. Perhaps it wouldn't have been so bad, or funny, if it had been the Invitations.

I was djing last week and a young girl came up to me and said "I really like what you playing, but don't know any of the words have you got anything I might know". Fair question I hear you say!! so me thinking she may have an idea seen as she was at a soul night, I asked "what would you like me to play?" to which she replied " have you got any Wham or Whitney Huston?" OH DEAR!! I didn't really know how to respond to that!!

After about half an hous of RnB that sounded like the worst of the bottom of the barrel rock n roll. I once asked Brain Rae if he could play some Northern Soul (At Morecombe). He was less than complimentary in his response.

Just for the crack i asked Searling (at Wigan) if he had the latest record by Keith Harris and his duck Orville, and with a smile on his face he told me to do one.Likely it was the saturday after the monthly's friday oldies night,god that could be a long drawn-out night at times. regards Gilly and Nicola

Well....im sure it was cleethorpes when a friend of ours bet gina my wife to go and ask for needle in a haystack to be played (they were doing bet things) i was at the bar, when i got back they told be about it , i said who was the dj? " i dunno"..........it was butch, he said sorry i havent got it ...

I DJ'd at a night in Peterborough a few years back....Adam Buchannan told me that is was an across the board night, so I thought ok, and took a mix of rarer 60's, crossover and modern tunes..

You know how you get a feeling that maybe this just doesn't look right....the car park full of Vespas and Lambrettas was a bit of a signal that maybe I should have picked up, but no....benefit of the doubt and all that. I followed a guy that played very, very obvious Motown...all the time thinking I should get my coat. Almost cleared the floor with the first couple of tunes, and then it was total empty space for the third and fourth..One of the punters who didn't seem too impressed with what I'd played so far came upto the decks to give me some helpful advice...."It's a Motown night mate....have you got The Snake...Edwin Starr ?

i was DJing at the marrs bar when some daft "civvy" jumps up knocking the decks in the process and asked me if i could play that song that goes "lager lager lager" !.....i think he had drunk more than a few lagers....and he fell very easily....off the end of my fist ( for knocking the decks ) ...oddly enough someone i had never met before wandered up to me at a later date and told me i was scary as he had witnessed the punch and the bloke i hit landed on his arse at this guys feet....dont mess with my vinyl !!

Well having one out of the two aint bad Dave but you might get Murial Day from Trax Records in Tollcross. LOL

Always remember going to a night in Chinatown , London , late 90's , I was working in the city and my mates flew down from Scotland for a weekend of debauchary , anyway Joey Negro ( aka Dave Lee ) was hosting and it was a cracking night , BUT !! I had never met him before , so ,

Upon arrival , my mates went to the bar and I went upstairs to the bog , passing through a small dance floor with a guy setting up the decks and his records , upon doing my business , I could see the guy was struggling with his boxes and lent a hand , he thanked me , introduced himself as Dave and stated we were in for a good night ,

I duly told him not to piss about up here on his own later as we would all be dancing to Joey Negro's set , and if he wanted a packed dancefloor to play my recommendations !!!

Not the worst request BUT over here in the States some of the punters god bless em aren't too concerned with rarity (or anything like that) However they do listen to cd's and know what they like So it's quite embarrassing when i get asked for stuff like The Magnetics "Lady In green"I mean my collection is pretty reasonable but i wish (This does happen infrequently)

HOPE YOU DON'T MIMD me mentioning that ---by what i have read about you on other threads on the board that you in your day you knew how to enjoy yourself , but like many of us, there is also the downs as well as the ups. as we progress in our lifes .IM glad it seems thoughyou've come through a bad period, beleive me SWISH iv'ehad one or two bad times meself. but it seems we all seem to cope somehow and someway.
