Soulsider
This is my copy on the left with Bell Sound stamped in the run out. There are copies like mine on Popsike. There are also others copies with the label layout different. From the info provided on popsike they both appear to be "originals". Are they? Can anyone confirm which came first? Thanks Mick Link to comment Social source share
John Benson
The copy with the 1973 date was released then - the other was a 1966 / 67 (ish) release. It was re-pressed due to the allnighter demand at that time, also it's very slightly different in that it has a longer instrumental break about 2/3 of the way through the song. Dazdakin
The first one in pic one is a 73' legal re-issue but it is different sounding and not half as good as the one pictured below which is THE original pressing from 68' i believe and far rarer and at least 3 times as costly. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Soulsider
Thanks for the info. I guessed it wasn't a 73 first issue. I just didn't know when the original was out. Cheers Link to comment Social source share

Guest
The copy with the 1973 date was released then - the other was a 1966 / 67 (ish) release. It was re-pressed due to the allnighter demand at that time, also it's very slightly different in that it has a longer instrumental break about 2/3 of the way through the song. The Original has a much better mix, thats the one that was massive! The 1973 mix has been dumbed down! Link to comment Social source share
Prophonics 2029
The extra in the song is at the start of the break sounds like a little more oboe. Bell Stamp C-116A-1 Link to comment Social source share
John Benson
Odd then really, that even though they are slightly different mixes - they're both the SAME time! 2:46 Mind you, I've never timed them both to see if they really are the same Link to comment Social source share
Prophonics 2029
The time on my demo copy is 2'53, played it against the refo short version and they played at the same time strangely and it ended sooner so the 2'46 must be from the original labeling. bluesoul
The 73 re-issue was slightly longer but other than that it sounds the same to me. Prefer the re-issue if only for the fact it's more seconds of a top tune. Also the original issue was issued with 2 different addresses on it (both Broadway - 1650 and 1631). Any more? The issue on Pye was a different mix with a 'synth' sounding break instead of strings. Crap. Cheers paul 1 Link to comment Social source share

Stateside
Just wanted to add that I have a 73' issue with Bell Sound stamped in the dead wax, with 1973 written in the centre of the label not at the bottom. Address is 17 West 60th Street, NYC Link to comment Social source share

Northern Soul Uk
I wonder if the longer version is an album version as many are that are longer than the single releases? Edited February 18, 2015 by Northern Soul UK Link to comment Social source share
Northern Soul Uk
Original or Repress? I know really :-) 73 repress. Is this the one with the different mix then? Edited February 18, 2015 by Northern Soul UK Link to comment Social source share
Dayo
The backing vocals on the Pye version always sounded different to me - not quite so "angelic". 1 Link to comment Social source share
