As an extension to the ongoing "I saw my first kingfisher today" thread, I thought it might be interesting if people wanted to post and share any wildlife pics that they've taken. As I said on the other thread, that way instead of just talking about what birds and other wildlife we've seen, we can also show photos of them. 

 

Hope you think it's a good idea.

 

As the current topic in the "kingfisher" thread is herons, I thought I'd start with a couple of pics of them that I've taken...

I think the left picture is a peregrine - but a youngster. Doesn't appear to have all it's grown up feathers.

pete think your right thats what i thought when i took them and looked them up, but im'a no bird whatcher

must say i do like watching birds of prey in the wild hunting the hovering before the swoop on to something is a thrill to see if not for the poor animal.it's good to see the numbers are on the up

Have you seen my peregrine thread Paul? Here's a link with all the details and a link to a live web cam. The first egg is due to hatch next week - although we are waiting with baited breath as the severe cold and snow may have stopped the eggs developing.

I haven't a clue what this is, I took the photo at the Safari Park this afternoon, it kept opening and closing it's mouth and it had these rows of really sharp teeth, I don't think it's a piranha though

Yeah, I tell you what, you wouldn't want a bite from one of those would literally take your fingers even hand clean off.

They do attack divers, very very nasty.

That made me smile Pete. I had my cat called Little Smith for 18 years - lost him three years ago.

 

Anyway, i had a really vivid dream about him one night. It was his first day at work and I waived him off from the front gate as he set off on his push bike with his sandwiches in a rucksack on his back!  Still makes me smile. I miss my little cat.

Martyn. I was fishing at border fisheries on Sunday, no sign or sighting of Cuckoos in a area that normally supports them.

Plenty over here, and we're only a degree or two warmer.

Usually have a lot of swifts in Wrockwardine (near Telford) - there are some but the numbers are a bit down. Plenty of house martins and swallows here though.

Managed a couple of hours fishing at week-end saw both swallows and sand martins (Scottish borders area). And my 1st butterfly this year, a Green veined white (had to check my books to confirm).

The black birds in my garden have fledged today. Watched dad feeding a youngster on the ground for 15 minutes and hoping that the cat from up the road didn't turn up!

Fishing at Hampton springs near Whitchurch today and yet again no Cuckoos. That's 3 areas in the last month that normally support them and nothing. That's a very worrying situation. I knew they where in serious decline but this is so sad
