"switch Around" Acetate

Just got the fabulous "Switch Around" (Wally Hoskins & Rosemary McCoy) acetate look-alike. Can anyone tell me anything more about it, please?

I'd be interested to know what an acetate lookalike, looks like ? Are you saying it's been booted on a vinyl single and made to look like an acetate, or you have had an acetate of it cut ?

Wasn't it a Beltone acetate or something?

 

Dave - a reissue label (think it may have been Norton) released a few acetate lookalikes some months ago.  They're just large centre-holed vinyl pressings with the acetate label stuck on to them.  Look convincing in the sleeve, though not so much when you look at one without.

one of the famed underhand recordings that went on without DJ's consent.

Not saying that any recent release isn't genuine, but this tune got recorded at a venue and distributed.

Pete, it seems to me that anything that wasn't played at Wigan doesn't float your boat. You need to experience it played at an allnighter on a decent system. It's proper northern to me, great to dance to.

The thing is, when we hear records at an event when the dance floor is packed and the atmosphere is kicking, then every subsequent time we hear that record, it takes us back to that time.

Believe me, when you stop going out, you hear records differently. We start looking for more substance, bigger productions, more soulful voice and more meaningful lyrics. This also happens if you do go out, but you never dance. That's why people start putting records up on here proclaiming how great they are and how cheaply they can be got. Most of them are fine for listening to at home. But please don't expect to fill a dance floor with them. If a cheap record is good, one play at an allnighter and there will be a rush up to the decks to see what it is. If this doesn't happen leave it at home.

What an absolutely ill founded assumption.  Ask me my top 100 and at least 40% come from the post Wigan days.

The record in question sounded like two people were singing different songs!

Outcast is the same as Left Out, same writer, or one of them, just different tempo and lyrics as Marc says.  Does have some of the same words in as well I think?  Need to listen again.

Insult all you like Phil, water off a ducks back.  I don't recommend records to anyone I just post tracks I like, whether anyone else likes them is irrelevant really but if someone does then it's a bonus.  I posted several cheap records as that is what the topic is about.  I try to participate in a positive way rather than sit back and slag off everything someone does or say.

How much does Rose get per copy sold?

The acetate is most likely from New York, as Rose Marie McCoy worked out of New York.  She was part of gene Redd Jr.'s writing team, as was Randall Stewart.  So, it's nt surprising that Randall Stewart ended up using the same tune for "Left Out".  He was also working for Old Town Records at the time, thus Old Town's Maureen Music got the publishing.

hi guys - know Rob well and he told me he found it in Rosemarys house when visiting there

 

asked Anglo what was situ with the vinyl release

 

and they said there legal releases - licenced

 

as it was never out on any form , then i think it can be played out

 

as i did in my set @ orrell last night

 

think rob cut rogers copy off his acetate but it was a long time ago

when we talked last - andy rix might know more

I think Rob did a few acetates for Dj's to play. I had one at one time. The original is with Andy Rix.

No, owning an unreleased acetate doesn't equal owning the rights to the music on it. You'd still need to find who owns the music and license it. Which could be like finding a needle in a haystack...

The government here, and ones overseas, inc google et al are trying to erode copyright laws, some are standing up against them, but as far as I'm concerned unless it's deemed to to be enough to given be given a copyright, such as a headline say, you pay a licence for using it, and I broadly apply that to images, vision, songs etc... These things are not free...

70 years after release I think, might be 50 here. Thats why the Beatles are releasing a batch of unreleased material otherwise anyone could have used it for free. It will now be protected for decades.
