I like a record called HEAVY MUSIC by BOB SEGAR AND THE LAST HEARD. Played it out a few times to a good reception from the crowd, been told it was played at casino early 70s. This raw type of northern soul seems to be in demand to date. Soulies can't believe it when you say Title and Artist. I like it anyway. Any more out there. Rod

Although the song title is innocuous enough, you wouldn't expect much from a group called John and the Weirdest.

You'd expect it to be typical US garage punk circa 66.  Well I would anyway.

. Thanks for that Pete, agree with similarity with Mitch Ryder.I read somewhere that in a interview with Bruce Springsteen he had said that Mitch Ryder was his inspiration with the Detroit Garage scene. Going back to off putting title's what about ALL THE DUDES WHERE DANCING BY THE MOB Again ,not a bad record ? It's a 70s thing. Rod

Remember Dave Godin championing this record in Black Music and when I heard for the first time I thought Dave must have gone deaf , what a f**kin racket.

Not what I'd describe as an uplifting soul record.

I thought I'd have a second bite at the question. So, can this record really be described as "raw northern soul"? Not to my ears. It would be stretching it a bit to try and define is as "raw northern" - but soul music.

Just saying like but you're pulling my leg.

I love "heavy music" after hearing it in about 1971, one of the first imports I ever bought.

Don't you ever feel like goin' insane
When the drummer begin to pound
Ain't there ever been a time in your little lives
You couldn't believe what the band is puttin' down, about

Heavy music
Heavy music
Heavy music
Heavy music

Get your hands now
Let me hear Detroit Michigan make some noise!
Get your hands
Get your hands
Get your hands

LOVE IT.....but would I buy it now........ No...............still got it and still play it though

Funnily enough, I just mentioned this is another thread, but Lou Pride's "I'm Comun' Home In The Morn'un" totally put me off 'cos it sounded like the sort of title a redneck shitkicker would use, so I abbreviated it to "I'm Coming Home" - James Lewis mainly because the original title was too much of a mouthful.......

Song titles are crucial if a certain song was called ....A cautionary tale about rescueing frozen reptiles on your way to work one morning ...................................................... :P

Let's not !! :-)

Ip, slippin dipping. Never played it coz I hated the title. It got punted.

I bought a record from Sousann after the usual "ignore the title" spiel back in the 70's. I knew it wasn't really right for playing but i agreed with him that it has "something". Maybe 20+ years later rummaging through some old boxes I found it out again, covered it up and had decent success with it at Albrighton.

The proper name was something like -
"They Had A Party At The Watergate" and how corny can you get, it was by "The Revealers". I bet old Dickie Nixon thought it was a peach , ahem, I'll get my coat    :hatsoff2:

I was only a bit of a kid when I first heard it played, don't suppose I knew to much about Soul Music then.as time's gone by I've learn't to listen and enjoy my music. Thanks for your wisdom. Rod

I think unusual names for records are great no problem.Mind you when your searching for a track by The Gay Poppers it does attract unwanted attention

Heavy Music use to get played at The Wheel with The Human Beinz around 1969/70 and other Mitch Ryder stuff.

I was intrigued to see the title "Hot Sausage" by The Mysterions listed on an album of unreleased Motown from 1962.  Luckily it turned out to be an instrumental.

I have always loved Girl with the Big Black Boots by the Paramounts. Very early Wigan spin but never heard it anywhere since. I always thought the title stopped it getting spins. Really atmospheric record at a packed nighter

Vital that the DJ gets his pronunciation right with that one.  Is that the same Paramounts who sang Poison Ivy?

No they (the latter) were a British group some of whom later became Procul Harum.

very popular with the yoof last few years

I would have thought the title of this might have phased a few in it's time

Love it, but it seems to have lost favour thesedays. :(

very popular with the yoof last few years

Including this one. Its a brilliant dance number with distinctive weirdness, and a memorable spin for DJs with cajones. Love hearing that beast of a tune out / wish

I did more.

that youtube video for Johnny Jones is the canines knackers !! .... love it

and it must be the first time I've listened to that track this century, one of the first records I ever aquired, 1972 ish I think, but still got it and suprisingly I think it still plays ... ?!?!?

was well beat up when I got me hands on it, and I can't say I've treated it with that much respect over the years

I was amazed how clear the sound on the youtube vid is .... have to dig my copy out and try and make out the tune & lyrics over all the crackles and pops ........

"Put it in your pipe and smoke it"Mel Nixon..Leftfield xover that you'd pass right by!

Peanut duck sounds a bit twatish Hawaii 5 o also , theme from joe 90 although I love the program and theme would put me off these titles would put me off further investigation. Also despite the time of year I'd not like to investigate loneliest Christmas tree, this also sounds judging by the title one of those tracks aimed at the suicide at Christmas type mob. Regards Happy . ( Another one )

Whoever thought " I'll give this a play, might be a tune" needs applauding.Must have huge brass spheres down there. The limpist of titles, with an artist's name that leaves a lot ot be desired.Unless you're in the "jazz" industry.

I give you - "My little cottage" - Fluffy Falana.

couldn`t agree more pal

I once found this record and I just couldn't make my mind up whether to play it or not because the title was a bit off putting, it was called "If You Play This Record I'm Coming Round To Kill You, Your Family, And Your Pets - Part 2"

Was covered up as Robert L Martin - Come And Go With Me, no wonder nobody could find out what it was, even if you were told the real artist you'd never believe it.

Great record though...
