Ok its that time again...

once every 5 or so years we do have to do a serious upgrade to the site system software

Due to the nature of the upgrade and the custom side of the main  site features  along with the amount and the age of the content on here it can be just a bit problematic.

Plan is to start it all next Monday Night 12th May 2025. Once the upgrade has been carried out , there may be a lot of work afterwards to get the main features back up and running as you are used to, so 

Anyway ideally the total process will take no more than 3 days ,The site should be available but as said some main features may be lacking or indeed absent for a short time

Just letting ya know in advance, all happening next week

Ok be aware that it's not 100%  happening tonight due to real world issues, there's a chance that may have to delay it by  24hrs, hopefully will be able to confirm soonest

Though currently the plan is to start tonight at 2200hrs

A bit more info, the upgrade is a software based one,  so no concerns with server, ips etc

Most features will be upgraded however some will be paused and will hopefully return soonest

The below will be upgraded in the following order, as said the features will return but they will require work asp before they return to as they are now

forum

sales markt

events - all features - though map based features may be offline for a few days

front page  - news/articles -

source store will be replaced {see earlier post }

gallery, videos, member map 

 

the below features will be put on hold awaiting new version or alternatives if needed

sales feedback feature, in house newsletter

 

the below are no longer available and have been switched off

in house support feature, various minor features which will list later

 

that's about it

there's a fair bit of work after the actual upgrade so maybe a day or two of things aint what they should be

Well if that's to be described as a major update I'm instantly unimpressed upon arriving just now.

I absolutely hate the new appearance of the site , it now looks awful , sorry Guv.

Can you at least tell us how to return the text to Black please if it's possible ?

You'll find these towards the bottom of every page (at least on a PC - not sure about mobile):

First one is "Light Mode" and likely what you are after (haven't tried it yet).

Edit: Indeed - you want the first one.

Makes no difference here , I shall wait to see what the final "upgrade" looks like before commenting further.

That's odd, the first one pretty much brought the site back to its old appearance for me.

So far so good - its looking and working well!

sorry i'm in the same opinion,it used to take me about a minute to go through ebay sales now its eye baffling please tweek this up other than that all fine,just seen your note on leaving feedback ...bit naughty it not being there as others like to know whether good or bad dealings !!!

ref the feedback app yep its a useful feature, been both chasing and waiting the app author for a updated version, but nothing yet, plan is if no joy to use an alternative but be a couple of weeks before can sort

ref ebay - yep am working thru stuff in a sort of priority order, the link on top menu will return shortly (24-48hrs)

guess should have explained

dark mode v light mode v system setting

the site default is to use your device setting

eg if your pc/tablet switches to dark mode automatically say at night time

then site will also do, the same for the light mode say at morning

you can override this by using the buttons at the bottom left of every page

easiest way if not up to speed to see is to have a play

bottom left 3 choices,

light permeant, dark permeant, or system settings

I like the upgrade,looks and feels professional (if that’s the correct term) 👍

ok making progress, getting through things, a few glitches solved and working thru the list, one point...

layout

the light/dark mode may be surprising people, as in the 'automatic' mode of it switching on

so for now have switched the default to 'light' view and will switch back to 'system setting' in a day or so

A couple of things I've noticed . . .

We seem to have lost the sub-menu links to navigate between forums, eg AATS to Box, or Sales to Wants etc. We now have to go up a level, and back down.

Also, the Sales and Feedback reputations seem to have disappeared, along with any links to members feedback.

Maybe you are aware of both of these and are working on them, but I just thought I'd mention it incase they had been overlooked.

FYI I'm using a desktop PC, and it may be different on a mobile.

thanks mick - the feedback app status was mentioned above , its 'awaiting the author' to upgrade it, if need be can/will get a alternative up

all the data is kept just so hopefully be a couple of weeks without

yep the submenu has gone, that was the default softwares choice, there is a lot of variety in how people navigate the site nowadays especially with different devices, but yep its something to look at in near future

Up to now iPad, iPhone and iMac seem to be fine. I'll check on macbook later. Nice one, cheers

I am hopeful that the feedback scores, and comments, will soon be restored. I believe that members derive peace of mind when buying/selling if they can see feedback and scores (I know I do).

First impressions are good Mike.

Looks far more dynamic and brighter, but doesn’t seem as responsive yet.

As i’m typing this i’ve finished hitting the keyboard and the words seem to appear about 5 seconds after I’ve typed them.

Its ok here, maybe a browser issue, as some have had issues with the editor, can you try another one and see if the same?

On the iPhone I have a large SOS across top of the page interfering with links etc

It’s not on any other page nor is it there on the iPad

Similar problem on android tablet and phone but cannot access any forums either, only can access things on the opening page.

there's a header height issue if you are using the pwa version in portrait view , that be resolved later

Is is possible for me to edit the layout / appearance I have posts to the left hand 2/3rds of a page and a vertical column of info to the right hand 1/3rd . I need to remove the right hand column from the view if possible.

Do you mean the topic view as in this view now?

The view/layout for such is pretty much fixed as it does depends on what device you are viewing eg tablet, phone, pc

on a desktop pc you should be seeing something like this?

Regarding the display query above, I'm on a Desktop PC, and the text is very thin and light on white. making it almost unreadable. I know you said earlier that the display was being looked at, but I notice your screenshot above is much more readable than mine.

Yes Mike that is what I am seeing, I need to remove the right hand column, I wear wide field varifocal specs and it makes reading the posts distracting.

thats odd as the image shows dark text but the browsers doesn't

so the theory is got to be the browser settings?

have you got another browser on your pc you could test the site out on?

if that's the same it may be your pc settings?
