I wasn't trying to offend anybody or have a dramatic exit. Quite the opposite.

Sorry if I've given that impression or offended anyone. I certainly have no intention of staging a big comeback. have asked Mike to cancel my account, which I'm sure he would verify.

Just a quick note to say farewell to Soul Source.

I'm not really involved in the scene anymore (as many keep reminding me), so it seems daft to stay subscribed, particularly as I can't really keep up or contribute.

My personal email for anyone who wants to contact me about records (want lists are always welcome, and likewise anyone with UK Tamla Motown LP's for sale, I'm always interested if they're numbers I don't have) - phildick @ btinternet.com

hey phil i dont know you but dont do it mate im probably the same as you dont contribute much on s/s but still like to look at the posts listen to the tunes posted on here etc etc you have obviously done your "soul-time" like me,anyway the soul police will not let you go that easy!!!,just keep looking at this site you do not have to contribute but the one thing i know you will not "lose the faith" ever...

j'know I used to find this site a bit intimidating because i was new and everyone is so well informed but now (on the strength of three cans of strongbow i want to contribute ...lol)

Ive not been to a venue for seven years but it sill there , ive had some of the best and the worst times of my life on the scene ,nothing else comes close.

I never had any time for armchair collectors , now im one myself , as you get older other things become more important and take over ,

Hi to all you lot who dont contribute - well you do, you just have!

It doesnt matter whether you do or dont, I do - sometimes, whether anyone wants to read what I have to say or not as another matter!! Ive been on the scene for a long time, still cant remember half the records of who sings what, but when I hear them I know I like them, it isnt about what you know, what you can do, etc., no one should feel that they should contribute or if they dont, they are not worthy! Not all of us can be on here all the time, due to other commitments. Now Ill shut up and let someone else contribute!!!

we have both known you a long while and I will never forget the look on your face when you walked into that record shop in Detroit to see myself Tats and Gilly already at the counter with PILES of 45s already purchased. :)

Karen will always remember the Good times she shared with yourself and Lesley at the many all-nighters we were involved in for hole in the walll soul promotions and After Dark.

I haven't decided lightly to dip out of Soul Source, it was my last and only connection to the Northern Soul scene. I don't have any contact with anyone on the scene nowadays outside of Soul Source. My former firends on the scene have gradually drifted out of contact since I became a Christian. To be honest most of them think I'm a bit weird now, and don't know what to say to me. I can understand that though. I used to feel the same way too. It's just that, to all intents and purposes, that (Northern Soul) part of my life is now over. It just took me a long time to realise that it was dead is all. The scene, music etc defined my life for so long (since first going to Wigan at just gone 15) that I was for a long time going through the motions in a kind of Pavlovian reaction. I now just felt that it was time to stop flogging a dead horse. I have no real connection to the scene today. I am not familiar with current events, I don't know what the current sounds are etc etc, and feel that I would eventually become like those folks for whom time stopped when the doors on Station Rd closed for the final time. My leaving Soul Source are for those reasons and those reasons alone. I really don't care if I receive criticism for either not being part of the scene or for my beliefs or anything else for that matter. I feel it is of the utmost importance for me to discuss my faith in every part of my life, and I never miss an opportunity to do so in the hope that even one soul may be curious enough to just look a bit further and may find what I have found. I have always loved the collecting side of the scene and I still have many 1000's of records (many of which are for sale, and if I ever get round to making a list ....01.gif) and I have recently embarked on a new collecting project to get every UK tamla Motown album. The music will always be a large part of my life, it's just time for me to leave the rest firmly in the past.

Nice exit, stage left Phil! Very dramatic! :g: No disrespect meant at all, but why not just stop logging on and see how you feel in a few weeks/months time?....... I sometimes get pi$$ed off with the compulsion (cos that's what it feels like sometimes!) to 'have a look' at SS every day, so I simply go AWOL for a few weeks. In those weeks, SS doesn't exist to me and I don't exist to SS. No big deal! Anyway, good luck in wherever & whatever :unsure: And I bet you a zillion quid that you'll be having a sneaky peek every now and again, as a 'guest lurker' :ohmy: . Cold Turkey is a tough regime bro :)

Always puzzled me why people have to make such grand announcements when leaving the forum.

If & when I decide to go I will do just that - no fuss & certainly no announcement.

Had quite a few people on here who have said things "I'll never post again" - Don't want to be a part of this anymore" etc. etc.

Then after a couple of weeks the old "Frank Sinatra" syndrome kicks in - "Hey guys I'm back"

Then these people have a grand reunion & welcoming back thread - "Oh how we've missed you"

Just does not sit well with me people.

Yes Epic a touch OTT with overtones of Captain Oates but setting himself up nicely for the prodigal son scenario at a later date. I think we have enough prima donnas on the soul scene as it is and Im sure Phil recognises the sin of pridefulness.

Looks to me like he's now missing a big opportunity to represent his faith on here by the simple means of contributing his thoughts within a virtual community whereby his beliefs are the bedrock on which his interactions with other members are based.

IMO we have right now a hell of a lot of money-changers in the Temple of Northern Soul and a bit of plain Christian speaking would be rather refreshing.

I thought this part of the forum was for soul related topics, but other sections deal with everything from record selling, buying, and label artist info to FREEBASING that is about anything you just want to get off your chest or shout about.

Therefore if you have had enough of the 'scene' you can still have 'virtual' conversations with lots of folks about anything you like.

I agree there is a slight 'habit' of looking at this site just to share ideas and thoughts but they dont have be about the scene.

Maybe if a post was put up about 'Christians on the scene' it might show Phil he is in good company.

One thing is for sure unless you participate you cant influence anything.

Phil all soul forums dry up, go around in circles and some times get a bit up them selves but most of the time its just knobbers like me with too much time on the key boards.

There are real people on list who do care about other people and I hope that you are OK and just want a break.

If you are in the shit then please don't suffer on your own, there are a lot of good people on list with huge hearts and a wealth of experience so e-mail or send a personal message via this means. You probably won't get any answers but a shoulder or an ear are some times enough.

If you just want a break then just leg it and come back soon.
