I'll start of with Roger Collins - Sexy Sugar Plum

You just could not get on the dancefloor when it was at its peak, regardless of its reputation today.

Any more for any more?

Rufus Lumley: Stronger Than Me

Remember this being massive at the Birmingham Locarno & other venues

Can't remember the last time I heard this played

Used to love this Moggy - I think I might still like it!

PAUL HUMPHREY - COCHISE

BETTY WRIGHT - WHERE IS THE LOVE

GLORIA JONES - TAINTED LOVE

The other Betty Wright played same time " Love don,t grow on a love tree"

Both from the "Danger High Voltage" LP.

Fookin hell - I thought I used to like that! Just played the clip cos I couldn't remember - er, well. Obviously the medication at the time had a part to play.

:D

Silvetti-Spring Rain

Silvetti-Spring Rain

Sounds like it falls into the never to be revived category but I bet this one would hit the mark again with any younger members of the audience.Heard it out about 3 years ago and you know what - it sounded bloody good.Bizarrely it sounded fresh (no I wasn't half hissed!)

Paul

Not that I do it much nowadays, but I always play Rufus Lumley - Stronger Than Me off a carvers I had done, got it put into mono and it sounds incredible...brilliant brilliant record

Two from Mr Levine productions, and these were massive.

Kev - in I think it was late 78, Evison reactivated LJ Johnson and it went truly massive again, three years after initial plays. I don't think I've heard it played since but a lot of those records have actually dated pretty well - Barbara Pennington's 24 hours a day and Running in another direction being two absolute corkers. In my opinion, obviously

Millie Jackson : House for sale

was massive and rightly so, I aint heard this at a venue for yonks sad.gif

Been racking my brains to remember the one that reminds of that time VICKY SUE ROBINSON-TURN THE BEAT AROUND was it on RCA? biggrin.gif

Edited by HARRY CROSBY

Have been playing it in and around D¼sseldorf for the last couple of months.

Lovely tune.

always thought this was a great record. remember soul sam giving it a few spins around 1980. flip it over for ace mid tempo dancer(imho) that would go if given the spins. think it's called "it takes a woman to love a man". also re ral donner. he died a few years back and yeah he made his living as an elvis impersonator. i think he was in elvis' band at one point but i could be wrong. i usually am!!

Correct Harry.

L J Johnson did 24 hours a day i think it was in 79 or 80 good version.

I still love Barbara Pennington, both!

slightly off topic but while the rotund producers mid 70s offerings are being mentioned on this topic can anyone else remember him being on the stage at wigan casino on a saturday night/sun morning mid 70s hurling copys of one or some of his 45s must have been weakspot/24 hours a day???,so who invited him?? because this was about the time of the wigan/mecca punch up thingy and i remember some of the 45s being hurled back at him, happy days, :ohmy:ph34r.gifph34r.gifph34r.gif

Possibly the night that the "Chicago Roadshow" were in attendance, performing live. LJ Johnson, Evlyn Thomas & Barbara Pennington(I think). Mr Levine was giving away those "Tomorrow" demos of the tracks. I had a Doomsday Voc/Inst.

Kev.

Fabula The Magic Band total sh*t

and that goes for Condition Red as well.

but you couldn't get on the floor while they were playing!!!

falbala- the magic band ?

Yeah ,but I dont think I'd class Falbala as pop (or soul for that matter !).Just 'different'.....I liked it anyway

My offerings ;

Helen Shapiro -Stop etc

Love Hustle

I went to a night a few years ago (sorry I'm too shy to mention which one.. tongue.gif ) and a lot of the records mentioned on this thread were played including the Man about the House theme (condition red... ). For a one off it was a bit of fun but I got the impression that it wasn't a one off for that venue. I've been to a few oldies nights but this was something else. Also on the list played that night were:

Boogie Man Orchestra -Lady lady lady (instrumental)

Gentleman and their lady - Like her

Apples peaches pumpkin pie - Jay and the Techniques

and what's that one called that goes "standing at the station, waiting for the number 8 train.."..is it Beverly Ann?

Anyway....it seems that one person's "never again" is anothers "yes please" laugh.gif as the place was packed!

and what's that one called that goes "standing at the station, waiting for the number 8 train.."..is it Beverly Ann?

Yup, "He's coming home"...have to say, still one to get the ladeeez on the dancefloor - and quite a few guys as well. Truthfully, I'm bored with playing it, but still have to dig it out occasionally!
