Due to the distance, and the deejaying commitments, Lowton is a venue I can only manage to get to every other month, but DEFO make a point of penciling the dates in me year planner to ensure I DON'T miss out on my bi-monthly fix of 'In Ya Face' and nothing but 'Top 'Notch' soul music. Add to the fray the regular music management team of Karl, Joan, & Paul - and the spectacular guest Jocks over the time and you have the DEFINITIVE 'Up Front' promotion that IS the D.D.A. at Lowton !! This venue is attended, REGULARLY, by SO MANY Top Peeps - from the far flung confines across the length & breadth of our 'frosty & pleasant land'.. that it can sometimes take me 2 hours JUST to get inside the door !! No, Honestly !! On my first visit since the 90's, earlier this year, it took me THAT LONG to get past all the conversations with the many familiar faces and friends outside at the time - that when I did FINALLY get in the door.. they had ALREADY STOPPED taking the door tax !! I must also admit to sometimes looking at my watch - to check how much fun is left at the DDA before we form that convoy of soulies for the journey to a certain address in Poynton (that's 'P', as in.. 'POSH' ) to see a continuation of the festivities enjoyed the previous hours. In the relaxed confines of a 'house' venue - it's an entirely different experience all together. Reclining on plush settees and chairs of living rooms.. conversations in an environment where decibels are not prerequisite to be heard. Awesome tuneage straight from the boxes of the assembled 'DJ's' & 'Collectors' - with, probably, the majority not heard on 'The Circuit' in the main due primarily to having 60 mins for spins at a venue - not the (almost) 'limitless' time frame such an environment as this offers. Not forgetting the mandatory coffee's/tea's & (for those 'able'..) a luverly bacon buttie or some similar tasty delight to reignite the taste buds after an evening of (over-)indulgence.. It CAN'T get ANY BETTER !! Looking forward to hearing the spins of my buddy Derek, too !! Always held a lot of respect for this guy - since first having the pleasure of an introduction a decade(ish) ago.. aware of his vast knowledge, alone, has always put him right 'Up There' in my book. With his wonderful character of charm & wit, too, you just get an 'All Round Top Geezer' and I'll have me pen & paper at the ready, during his sets, for the new additions to me wants lists !! Only two more sleeps and I'll be winging me way northward for the start of ANOTHER Soulful weekend - certainly for, at the very least, one of THE best regular Friday's on the Soul Calender !!
