I don't think TMWHS ever got played anywhere apart from local youth clubs.  If you listen to it, it's a fantastic 60's pop song, not northern, one of my favourites.  "Stop" is great as well, miles better than the original slow version.  He Knows How To Love Me is good as well.

Aah the good old YC days. My top record at the time was Lesley Dawson* - Run For Shelter.

Which I paid £15 for, and according to Record Collector.....its still worth £15.

Yeah I agree Smiffy although Steve Jeffries covered it as Florence Devoree and it reached 'massive' status at Abingdon in 78 it was really more of a Youth club tune, much like Sandi Shaw, Petula Clark, etc

can remember evision playing "the wind " version round 77

first time played it gave an annoucement along lines of "see what you think of this its the current number one oldie in scotland"

memory says it floor filled and had a brief bit of popularity

It was played in '73 - pre Wigan days, also played was Land of A Thousand Dances by Mr Bloe. I don't clearly recall hearing it at a major venue, but hey, it was 30 years ago!

Walls of Heartache in Walthamstow - as I am involved with the night I won't go on about it here, but feel free to contact me or check the events section to know more.

I will say the dancefloor didnt exactly flood when it went on, although it was avery early play.

Apologies i've just seen its not actually listed on my set list (by error and not intent), but it was played.

forgot say I bought for 50p, in Bishop Auckland record shop in '73. It was the album 'Groovin with Mr Bloe'. Same resord shop was full of gems. Jackie Edwards. Platters, etc all 25p to 50p gems (sorry off topic!)

Also, have thought of other bad records, like , 'Lets Spend the Night Together' (instr), the Rolling Stones song. I last heard that played by Soul Sam at the Pendulum, Manchester.

The B side of the GWMB DJM single is pretty good from what I remember, if you like instrumentals.

I think we tend to forget records that were undoubtedly big at one time in favour of obscure "b" sides, granted they'd never get played at any big time venue now due to being played out, but that does'nt constitute a bad record does it?.I can recall at a record fair many moons ago how a young lad (barely 16 if a day) was browsing discs at a Northern dealer and produced a list ,neatly typed out of his collection. The dealer/colleagues/buyers laughed the wee lad outta the hall. I bought nowt off him after that in disgust. Such is the snobbery and elitism of the Northern scene.

Yes, "Sinful" (as it is called) is a very northern (in that cheesy kinda way) sounding instrumental, perfect beat, breaks, the lot. How do I know? I used to have a Spanish release where the title was "pecaminoso" instead of "sinful", and I actually thought it was rather good, at one point. I played it to some people and they also thought it was good! It went well together with Frankie Valli "You're Ready Now" and R. Dean Taylor "Ghost In My House"...

Its on Congress if I remember rightly and called somthing along the lines of Come Softly To Me, and yes loads of pop versions (suppose thats a pop version too )think it was a hit for the Fleetwoods (having bought a few other versions in my youth looking for the Northern one!!!)

Big sound at Clouds Edinburgh, and as Steve says above, didnt sound half as bad then
