April 24, 200916 yr Well i cant comment on anywhere before 1984 but the best dance floors i've ever danced on is Easington welfare hall & the Railway club in leeds , just sprung to perfection xxx
April 24, 200916 yr Souldham - Queen Elizabeth Hall Brighouse Ritz (Probably the best on the scene - check out the carpentry on that floor if you're there) Paul
April 24, 200916 yr well for recent gigs you'd have to mention the hall in Letchworth (not Plinston the other one) - the dancefloor was like an ice rink......
April 24, 200916 yr Well i cant comment on anywhere before 1984 but the best dance floors i've ever danced on is Easington welfare hall & the Railway club in leeds , just sprung to perfection xxx Di, the dancefloor at The Railway Club was that sprung we had a seance cause the tables were levitating ....... but agree it was great for dancing on as well , will also mention the Harold Club Bradford, it has a lovely sprung dancefloor. Rosemary
April 24, 200916 yr well for recent gigs you'd have to mention the hall in Letchworth (not Plinston the other one) - the dancefloor was like an ice rink...... I take it you mean Spirella , nearly went on my a*se many a time there
April 24, 200916 yr The manchester ritz great floor for the past vote, and i have to agree with the missus [only cos i want me tea on a plate n not me head] THE WELFARE HALL at easington is a fantastic dancefloor
April 24, 200916 yr +1 Brighouse, Grosvenor. Good floors both. Though as both ban talc, that should probably count against on flexibility grounds. -1 for Blackpool Tower. Talc also banned, but without the redeeming feature of being terribly good in the first place.
April 24, 200916 yr The manchester ritz great floor for the past vote, and i have to agree with the missus [only cos i want me tea on a plate n not me head] THE WELFARE HALL at easington is a fantastic dancefloor It seemed to be a dictated requirement , that all Miners' Welfare Halls were built with a great wooden dancefloor . The WH ( now called The Dearne Community Theatre ) at Goldthorpe has such a floor ........ Malc Burton
April 24, 200916 yr past - wigan present - brighouse ritz , makes dancing almost effortless worst ever by a mile - twisted wheel , for loads of reasons
April 24, 200916 yr What's wrong with the wheel? everything , rock hard concrete , metal poles , pot holes!, too small ,sloping and you have to practically fight for a tiny space on it
April 24, 200916 yr everything , rock hard concrete , metal poles , pot holes!, too small ,sloping and you have to practically fight for a tiny space on it
April 24, 200916 yr At the moment, for me it has to be Burscough British Legion. It might only a be a small club but the dance floor is fantastic
April 24, 200916 yr at the minute the stables dancefloor is pretty bloody good.not a warp or unvarnished piece on it .bit too much talc sometimes only because i wear leather soles.winsford was ace too.and kings hall ,(till some bugger put french chalk on it near the door one night .walked in an went feet forward RIGHT on me arse).made it impossible to cross never mind dance on.casino was perfection, ritz was warped to f*** in places, 100 club had a few pot holes in it and a little square bout 2 and a bit foot wide which if your on it is fine but dance next to unawares and you.ll end up on your back,ON STAGE under a pile o bags.clifton hall was great massive and smooth even at the back.derby assembly rooms bradford queens hall,..yawn i,ve bored the tits off meself here.
April 24, 200916 yr The Ritz in Manchester was a good 'un I'll second that loved to dance on that revolving floor also the Monaco Hindley is still a top dance floor. Steve J
April 24, 200916 yr Best Floors i have ever danced on Hatfield Spiral Youth Club--Where it all began for me,sunken sprung maple Stoke kings hall Cleethorpes winter gardens--great spring Trentham gardens---massive Brighouse ritz--best in yorkshire Blackpool tower--the wow factor but the floor is hard work Monaco ballroom Prestwich Keithley Okeh hall Edited July 10, 201410 yr by Patto

April 24, 200916 yr God how could i forget Rotherhams Clifton hall that floor was fantastic.Come to think of it though the night in general can make or break the floor, been to lots of soul nights that looked promsing with nice floors only to turn out crap with no one dancing. no matter how good the floor is there needs to be a good crowd on it interacting and making the atmosphere
April 24, 200916 yr Past - Wigan, Bradford Queens Hall (lovely sprung parquet floor), Ritz Present - my record room
April 24, 200916 yr The 100 Club is the best by far......I feel I know every lump, bump & pot hole........the floor can be the best in the world, but if the music dont move ya, it might aswell be a car park !. Russ

April 24, 200916 yr on the current scene how do dances rate https://www.imonmyway.me.uk/index4.htm ? It's good! Similar to Northallerton Town Hall (12th Sept), My current fave is the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen Comrade Moustache
April 24, 200916 yr I'm sorry to be biased (well actually i'm not... ) but Rugby's dancefloor is like Mary Poppins. Perfect in every way!
April 24, 200916 yr upstairs in the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield was magic, so was the Ritz Manchester.
April 24, 200916 yr on the current scene how do dances rate https://www.imonmyway.me.uk/index4.htm ? I was waiting for that one I'm surprised you lasted till post 36 though Andy. Well done
April 24, 200916 yr Another good one currently is the Grand atlantic in sunny Weston S Mare where the hip huger boys do there stuff and Heavenly Blocked used to use. The whole venue is perfect one of the best Ive seen. Darren.
April 24, 200916 yr past, clouds edinburgh, music hall aberdeen, casino, parr hall warrington, old vic wolverhampton, but present must be aberdeens beach ballroom go as far to say best floor in the nation and a fantastic venue
April 25, 200916 yr past, clouds edinburgh, music hall aberdeen, casino, parr hall warrington, old vic wolverhampton, but present must be aberdeens beach ballroom go as far to say best floor in the nation and a fantastic venue Got to agree the Aberdeen music hall was good in the past but the Beach Ballroom Aberdeen has everything you want at an allnighter absolutely superb
April 25, 200916 yr All of them including the times on German Scooter Runs dancing on grass in a field! I remember the floor at Canklow and how it used to seam to turn to ice? It was a hoot watching visitors go tits up every now and again! I am not a big fan of the Blackpool type sprung floor as when it's in full tilt it's like dancing on North Sea Fookin Ferries! I'll dance on just about any thing until Uncle Knob Head spills his drink!
April 25, 200916 yr The original raised floor at Manchester Ritz, you didn't need to dance, just bounce along with the rest of the crowd. Great sprung floor at the Sterling Suite, Yate allnighters, but the Baths venue was orrible. Loved both Wigans floor and The Mecca's and nearly any event help at Mecca venues in the 70's, Coalville Tiffs, Liecester Palais, Nottingham, Newcastle (Stoke), Birmingham Lacarno..........
April 25, 200916 yr Got to agree the Aberdeen music hall was good in the past but the Beach Ballroom Aberdeen has everything you want at an allnighter absolutely superb the beach was good in the past but not a patch on atmosphere as the edinburgh or dundee all nighters a great dance floor though and i would imagine it has to be up there for the best in the country at this moment dance floor we are talking about. another one is the grosvenor hotlel in edinburgh.hosted by the soul boys and no this is not an advert both dance floors the modern and the oldies room are superb and the atmosphere and sounds are tops
April 25, 200916 yr Must only be me who thought the raised floor at the ritz was shite, wigan was great so was bellvue and the cats whiskers but always thought the carousel at plymouth grove took some beating.Worse one would have been at an alldayer at the merry go round [salford]bout 78 when dave holland [from radcliffe] dropped his pants and shat on the floor [i kid you not]and was rather quickly removed from the premises.Sounds disgusting but was funny as fook at the time.
April 25, 200916 yr A couple SPRING to mind up these parts with Easington welfare being ABFAB huge sprung floor awesome, and the second one is The Fed in Gateshead which has a great floor. chris Totally agree Chris. Both absolutely fantastic to dance on Suz x

No Andy I agree, it was a trampoline. Part of the reason was that it was built in the center and ontop of the original floor, Heart of England alldayers. The best thing they did was to take it away and expose the the original floor, that was used for the alnighters, now that was a good floor.
April 25, 200916 yr Author I was waiting for that one I'm surprised you lasted till post 36 though Andy. Well done nice one Joan , hope we'll see you on the 22nd - would value your (and others) opinion on this original (1920s) , beautifully maintained, sprung wooden dance floor NORTH YORKSHIRE SOUL CLUB @ THE MAGNIFICENT RILEY SMITH HALL. TADCASTER nr YORK, FRID 22 MAY, MAIN BALL ROOM (largest wooden sprung dance floor in UK) & UPSTAIRS RARE SOUL ROOM. GUEST DJs MICK H & PHIL SHIELDS. April 25, 200916 yr Went to the first Riley Smith Hall Night, and have to say the floor is great. However is it really bigger than Brighouse,Kings Hall Stoke, and the Tower because it doesn't appear to be to me.Maybe if the tables were cleared off the floor it would have looked bigger,i know there has to be seating for the big attendance but i hate to see great floors taken up by tables along the edges. The Riley is a must for the Soulie to dance on though
looking forward to seeing how this thread develops
