Looks like I am gonna have to extend the open deck idea (over the Oct and Nov dates!) as several interested so far - thankyou.

I will come back to those that have replied before the weekend and then confirm on this thread.

Any one else interested?

Thanks, Ray

I have had several replies to my call for my 'Open deck' night.

I have replied to the following who expressed an interest (awaiting final confirmation - which was sent out this evening):-

- John Aldridge (Came along to one of Russ's 'Show me what you've got' nights at his place - blew us both away with his box. Expecting some great 6ts 45's).

- Pete Hillier From Nottingham "Purveyor of crossover, 70s and Modern". Has done spots at 'Soul Intent' for Geoff Burgess, Hinckley, 'Polish Club' Nottingham and has promoted an across the board night in Nottingham with Les Wright (lofty).

- Midge ('Midge' here on Soul-source) dont know his real name! - from Lincoln but sounds like a nice chap! He will be bringing a box of 70's and Crossover.

- Chrissie ('Chrissie' on Soul-source) the only lady to reply. Chrissie danced to the first and last record (and everything in between) last time she came to 'The City'.

- Tony McKenna ('MAK' on Soul-source) from Alfreton, Derbyshire - a regular at places like 'The Attic' who provided references that sort of looked ok!

- Pete Burton - Usually got some mega rare 6t's 45's that he 'brings out to play' every now and then.

Just awaiting final confirmations from the above. I will be intouch with the others that replied to fit them in on the October and November dates.

Cheers, Ray

Hi Ray,

His real name is Midge, he's one of the famous Soul triplets from Lincolnshire. Surely you remember the other two?.........................Mary & Mungo!!!!! whistling

Looking at your line up, it seems that there will be a welcome Oasis of 70's / X-over in that usual desert of 60's called the City Club

cheers,

John Mc.

Lincolnshire Soul triplets indeed, Very droll Mr Mc

I remember the Clangers too, hope I don't drop one. My personal preference is for mid tempo XOver and 70's but will definitely be playing for the dancers, bits from Chicago & Philly perhaps? Look forward to visiting the City club for the first time.

Well, after my visit to The City Club last month - where I was fortunate enough to be offered 60 minutes of decking time - there's NO WAY (and no excuse) I'll miss this offering. With it being only a very short drive up the road from mine The City makes an ideal soul promotion for me to get my necessary Soul Fix, especially when there isn't a 'niter on my 'schedule' the same Friday.

I just love the idea of a night of Open Decks, too. As I was saying to Ray, there are so many 'private collectors' out there, without the desire to achieve any sort of 'main circuit' music management, that have some truly awesome discs of soul stashed away in their personal collections. Not necessarily the 'run of the mill' stuff either - or even rarities - I'm talking people that, unbeknown to the majority, are sitting on discs that are even unique in some cases (ie studio acetates). But the quality of some of this stuff is second to none, and I enjoy nothing more than being surprised with a stupendous track spun from an 'unknown' DJ. thumbsup.gif

Hopefully, this will prove the case with some of the Turntable Managers lined up for the next installment at The City .

I certainly am aware of Chrissie's (from Bedford) particular style - preferring to stick with 'Female Only' discs - which allows a good mixture of styles & genre's within her DJ Set offerings, a little for everyone you could say. But sufficient to offer a varied set that would see consistent enough floor action and please the majority of attendees at any Soul Promotion. :good:

Looking forward to it, and I'll see all you good Soulie type peeps on the night !!

If you havent been to 'The City' before then look out for the magnificent building which is my 'Avatar' here on Soul-source.

Parking is down past 'The City' just past 'Ask' Restuarant - the car park is off a left hand turn.

Don't park behind 'The City' where Bar clays Bank is as they will clamp - as it helps to pay for the 'Fat Cat' bonuses!
