well,......never thought i would see they day when i had in my hands, a copy of vicky baines "country girl" 32 years of dreaming but occasionaly, they do come true....in my case, courtesy of top mate pete smith...all of a sudden i feel a weight has been lifted!.....as for the others.....i need a "lotto" luck!

When I start to collect northern soul records, never dream I can get this records...now are these on my box...the records like Cecil Washington, Al Williams or similar of 1K to go........outa of my dreams :-P

Then in 97 after attending my first soul night in a long time and over the next few months finding out about all the T,O,T,W tunes i mist out on someone played Troy Dodds "try my love" at Huglescote it instantly became my number one want! it took a few years to find the issue but when it did my Tony Middleton came in the same deal two years ago.

The last holy grail for me lasted from my pre Casino days, a record my cousin had in his collection and took me till this year to get one thanks to that nice man Pete Smith, Manchesters's Playboys "i feel good" Fontana

I still have many Holy Grails to find and like most silly bugers that collect soul records if one comes up, the bills can go on hold .

I have not got a copy of Al Williams and would like one on either label.

But I have personally been lucky with Alexander Patton on UK capitol - I have had UK copys go through my hands in 15 years.

The first copy was from Beanos in Croydon one Saturday in the early 90s - and a minter............

I got my first copy of "Paris Blues" on "Mala" this year ! After being into 6Ts Soul for years !!!!

What a 45 ! Timeless ! Still sounds as fantastic today as the first time I heard it.

Well i would like to add i have seen a copy of what i want but site dosen't work to buy it. but i would say i never seen another copy before and it is Jackie Wilson - Open The Door To Your Heart on an Aussie EP. which to my knowledge is the only time you will see it on a 45.

However i do own it on the original LP of Higher and Higher and i never had seen one until finding it on Gemm a few years ago

Until late 2009 I thought I'd never own Eddie Parker on Awake and JD Bryant on Shrine.

And guess what? I still don't own them

My own holy grail is a 1976 Californian 45'( not in any guide book or even the R'n' B Indies) only ever seen it once, and I didn't get it (doh !), the search will continue so who knows.

They're both actually still on Ebay Marc. They've been there for months. Both are on Buy It Nows for £2k (issue) and £1,707 (demo)!

i had the al williams on palmer a few years back,think isold it to manship for about £800 but the biggest laugh was swapping my alexander patton on u k white demo for a copy of the martin luther king album on uk tamla as i was trying to collect the full set,what an arse!!!

Good point,at the time they seemed like holy grail records to me,obviously to others they were easy to find .

Trouble is if there that rare,what`s the point in trying to find it.There always be cheaper records has/if not better.

How about:Fluorescence Smog,never seen a copy for sale although i have been offered a copy but didn`t have the money Does that count?

Well, it depends, doesn't it?

For me, right now, virtually everything over 200 quid is a holy grail. For a lot of folks over here, it's close to nothing.

For example, a Holy Grail for me is Dianne Elliott - When He Speaks (New Horizon). I probably could afford it, but go ahead and find one!

Your right in what you say Chalky but the question is imo ,records that to you were holy grails...the one's you never thought you would ever own....but now do

My own take on it is ....i never thought i'd ever spend more than £100 for a record let alone 4 figures, so most of my records fall into the holy grail category

I still have too many i want and thanks to one or two good people i've been in contact over the last few yrs....the list keeps growing.

Seriously tho.....i think over the last couple of yrs ...almost everything big ticket has turned up and they still are ..it's just a matter of price .

One i'd settle for more than any other off the top of my head POETS on J-2 ....Sheer class
