Well he told me he did & now it's documented so that'll do for me :D

Was a fantastic venue & have to say it was the best nighter ever IMO.

Also got some fantastic memories of it & met some great people, many who are still friends still including co-promoter Adrian Gyte (the quiet one).

My money would be on Poke with him being a Soul Bowl employee at the time, although Pat would have aquired his copy around the same time, plus quite a few other punters as John had rather alot of copies of it back then.

Thinking back to Clifton Hall, think this was the only allnighter we ever got into fisticuffs at, if you remember there was a pub at the bottom of the hill, it kicked off in there one night with some locals (10pints fight anybody types), it made for some good verberling throughout the nighter  :wicked:

Loved Clifton hall, cracking mix of music and a nighter made better by the crack on the bus ride from Nottingham to Sheffield and then another to Rotherham. One strong memory I have - being well into the footy casual thing back then was a load of footy lads there in the side bar, in Fila Bjs, Borg Elites etc. They looked the part.

Great place to sell records too...remember walking out of there with over £ 1,000 in my pocket !

20 copies of Lord Luther at 20.00 each 15 copies of Cautions at 30.00 each 30 copies of Pretenders each 15.00 ..Albums went quickly too..!

We occasionally got a lift too with Mr Brady !

I recall a guy selling a large box of records there one night. The odd thing being everything was on Detroit labels, most of the Palmer stuff including Al Williams, Solid Hit, GW etc etc. Amazing to see them all together in one place.

One of my favourite allnighters of all and the first I ever worked as a regular.

See Pic! Such an awesome atmospheric venue!

Musically it was truly groundbreaking with 60's, 70's and 80's being played ALL IN THE ONE ROOM!

Yet nowadays folk say that can't be done  :D

That March '82 advert, must have been the first 'guest' session for me, and was added to the team thereafter.

Very exciting times, with Cleethorpes, Bradford and Warrington kicking off around that time, and where I was very privileged to work for another few years with the 'After Dark team.

Will upload anything i can find to contribute.

Cheers Chalky.

I did notice whilst going through the echoes from 1981 and early 1982 how few venues there was at times.

Hi Guys,

I'm a newy on here so please go easy with me  :)

Reading through the posts brings back so many great memories IMHO having been to most top venues back in the days Clifton Hall was the best place for cross the board music. You got the full range from all the top dj's at the time with people travelled from far and wide which gave the place an amazing buzz. I always considered myself an "oldies" fan but nowadays I'm much more into what was then "newys" such as pages, heartaches and pain, Otis clay the only way is up, Curtis how can I tell her etc. etc. etc.

We too used to meet in the charters (can remember the trouble too) then stager into a packed Clifton Hall about 10.30, dance till 2.00 then wait for the whistles and uplifting dancing from the Preston Street Crew and then back for more dancing and watching the amazing Vernon from Bradford doing his spins.....those were the days!!!

Best of times for me as a 17-21 year old. Fit as a flea and built like a racing snake :D

Think I only missed a few due to the dreaded Hep B.

Lost all my flyers over the years but still got my badges. The third anniversary vest lasted until a couple of years ago.  post-9369-0-72775500-1374527668_thumb.jp

Long time ago . Not sure how often I went, (not many times if I remember correctly.) I did 1st and 2nd anniv for sure, and a couple of others inbetween. Try as I might, I can't remember a thing, apart from a strange occurrence going to the venue, but that's another story

Edit, I remember a bit more. We actually went on a Vespa 90 and a Honda 100cc bike. Bizarre , but determined in those days

Cor blimey!

Reminds me of the time Dave Greenhill and myself went up there in the back of Randy Cozens Ernest Wedge roofers van...like an Ford Escort van so not a lot of room. Went straight from work up to Soutgate - Took us hours to get across N.London / Herts and onto the M1. When we got to Rotherham Randy wanted a pint and we nearly got into a fight with about 20 local "civilians"....who didn't take kindly to the three "cocker knees" in their local.

Seem to remember a good night at Clifton Hall, and Pat Brady leaving early  Neil Page with his flashing record box with lights on! Preston Street Dancers with their whistles whooping it up....All good clean fun.
