watched the turley richards end was waiting for a late bid to come in.... was gobsmacked had to check exchange rate to see the outcome £411, also noticed the winner had a second bid waiting...! mad mad world

 

strange thing was just had a hour spinning some tunes and this was the first one I pulled out after a long time sitting in one of me boxes, great record

btw sounds great and in better condition than the one sold.....

Flabbergasted. I bid on Jeanette but never envisaged this outlay - condition was ace though and the best copy to pop up for a while. Possibly a buzz on Turley Richards at present - is it getting spins?  Maybe there's a Lottery winner out there who's decided to invest in top condition vinyl?

It's been in demand for many years now, which could make it's availability (as opposed to rarity) a little scarce, although lot's were saying they were sick to death of it, and rightly so, 15 years or so ago, yet it's still getting lots of plays,

 

£749 is a lot of money for a 'get out of jail free card'

A great record and one of the best discoveries of the last two decades. Still plenty of milage in it too. Sure, more a scarcity than a rarity but I doubt there are many minters still to come to market.

They are both fantastic records, hence why I was watching them hoping for a bargain.  yeh right. Like I said in the other thread, anything of quality goes for massive money on eBay these days. And the ones that appear to go through at reasonable money, I can guarantee you that the winning bidder will have put a massive amount on it. I am second high bidder on everything that I really go for. I have also noticed that most of the winning bidders have very high feedback scores. So it can't be newbies pushing the prices up.

I think its time to pack up' looking at these auction prices  on ebay.

i think some of the newbies have 10 years experience behind them now ,so maybe there not quite newbies.....but if you got plenty o money you can wrack up a high score very quickly..but honestly tho..if anybody who wanted a copy of wade flemons i thought they would have had one by now..his  other ramsel 45 is way better and much rarer..but its not a floor filler

It's the same with a lot of records that were once cheap and in everyone's sales box, once they are not cheap they don't come up for sale. Marva Lee is a good example; 90's = £10 to £15 quid and 1 in every box, 2013 = £100 - £125 and none to be found.

 

Also, why is it a bad thing that more people are collecting? I thought that was the idea; buy OV. Unfortunately more people after the same number of records means prices go up.

Jeanette might not come up for sale every day but it does pop up on a fairly regular basis via some list, sales box or auction.  £700 I would want a genuine rarity that reflected the price not a common record.

I think that is already happening, there are some good records appearing for sale on private sellers lists at the moment.

As i see it the biggest majority of collectors are mid to late 50's so suppose theres another 10 years of collecting

it could be a dilemma! I do also know there are a younger generation of collectors who hopefully will support the scene!

yes and they probably number arounf 10- 20% of the amount of collectors in there 50's, 60's and 70's.

My timing will be when I'm dead lol, unless I have a massive unexpected shortfall....once I have the records they have no monetary value to me, although theyre worth thier weight in gold quality wise.  I invest in SOUL & would never buy a record hoping I can sell it in 10 years or what ever for a profit....
