Jo & Gill recently started a Facebook group called 'Northern Soul the film: Cinema Group' which has all of the following information but thought to share it in here too:

If you don't see your local cinema listed, try these two steps;

 

1. Go to the Our Screen website. Select the film & then check to see if they have a cinema near you listed. If not, use their Contact Us page to request your preferred cinema. They do reply within approx 24hrs.

 

2. Contact your local Independent cinema directly by email or phone & insist there is a large enough demand for them to put on a screening. With any luck it will then be available on OurScreen.com & you can schedule & promote a screening through them.

 

Currently there are 52 cinemas booked to show the film. If every person who ran a Northern night &/or allnighter were to suggest this idea to their club's Facebook group, you could almost have your own private viewing!

 

OurScreen is a great idea but seems to have only just got off the ground. If enough people badger them about this great film they will have to take notice & lobby the cinemas hard on your behalf.

As Steve said they used one of Richard Searlings Soul Nights at Blackburn KGH to film and a lot of the footwork was from older dancers

Rumworth Hall, Bolton which has a regular Soul night was used as a Dance club, many of the local young uns where already heavily into the scene and good dancers, but older dancers from the scene worked with them to show them different styles of dancing

There are no cinemas near me showing the film I'm afraid unless I go into London. Probably wait for the DVD release but it would have been nice to have it shown near the aylesbury / high Wycombe area.. Seems Northern soul on this occasion is for the Northerners!! 

 

No matter Ive piles of Deep House... I can get me hit there!,,,

Take a look at the Facebook cinema group (link in original post) & then arrange/propose a screening on the OurScreen website, yourself. That's how the vast majority of screenings have happened with this film ; people taking control & generating the demand. Good luck!

I am working on Sky, CBS and FOX TV maybe doing some coverage! Wandering around work singing songs from the film is starting to be infectious...

apparently the Bristol 730 screening at the showcase delux has been moved to a bigger screen was a sell out now more tickets available

Not entirely true... The KGH was used as a location for some of the dance scenes, but not at one of Richard's do's and all the close up shots and footwork was by the youngsters.

You'll love it Spot. Remember the days when we were all athletic and slim?

Vaguely, very vaguely and I think they were fun.  

Spot, the all nighter scenes were filmed at the King George's Hall in Blackburn. All the youngsters came from all over the country and had attended the regular dance clubs in London and Bolton that were started a couple of years prior to filming. There was certainly enough to fill the dance floor when I went down to witness the filming. The "older" extras were used around the edges of the floor for the long shots.

Well done Steve for spotting the deliberate mistake , seriously I do remember something at Blackburn but this Old Man's memories fading and all large Dance Hall's look the same to me now and I never knew Dance Club's were started, is that like Working Men's Club's but for the under 25's , why only London and Bolton but nothing in between? I know Mr Sadots on You Tube telling them how to be passionate when dancing, afraid you can't be taught it Paul. Made me laugh that the "Older" extras were used around the edge, that will be because the middle was too far to walk and nowhere to hide your Zimmer . I'm surprised there was so many youngsters because I've yet to see more than a dozen or so at any Nighter and we attend one every week if possible.

Keep on dancing till you can't dance no more but don't constantly film yourself doing it , Spot.

Wellingborough Castle theatre is showing the film on Thursday October 23rd at 8pm. 80 tickets available which went on sale at 10 am. One note though, thought this was a thread about where to see the film and provide info for others searching for it. Get quite a few misery guts on here wanting to slag the film and the PR of it. Can you go create another thread for that, maybe call it the "anyone want to slag of the film or moan about something to do with the film"    This thread wouldn't be half as long if those comments were taken out

Yeah, will withdraw the length of the thread being taken over by negative comments part. Dropped into the thread on page 3 and the small 'war' that was raging on that.  Also the small spat about whether Lisa Stansfield was pro-active or not seemed pointless for this thread. But will agree with you Mike, not as many as I thought but still, unwanted I feel on this thread.

on the thrust of this thread, I think myself having a more general approach is working ok at the moment, if we did start sectioning off different threads for different aspects of the discussion/news about the film, then we could end up with 3 or 4 or even more film related threads all running at the same time, which may be a bit ott

It makes me wonder if those who state or continue these myths were involved or just went. By went I mean, "got it", not just turned up once to see what the fuss was about after the media rush.

I also remember her saying most left the floor when Granada showed up with their cameras but then I suppose if you were there the same night & didn't see that you may think it didn't happen. A lot of how something is remembered can come down to personal perspectives.

Lass in the actual cinema also said that there's a 2nd showing booked and that'll be in screen 1 which holds 246 and she's sure that's more or less sold out too!!   Glad I got in early

Argh, Cambridge Arts Picturehouse has now sold out for 18th Oct, but has got booked to see film on 27th....seems it requires though another 30 people to buy tickets, so c'mon the Cambs and Bedford soulies, lets get this showing on the 27th Oct filled. Cheers 

Think you may be OK fella, just spoke with someone at the Arts in Cambridge and she said that the showing 18th is a sell out and she reckons the 2nd showing is too but couldn't find the date. You've said 27th so I'm assuming that's it. Hopefully, you've had confirmation from Ourscreen

You're spot on about personal perspective, we all have our own truths about the past, particularly around this past! I think most would give more energetic dancers some space out of dance floor etiquette, or perhaps as much not wanting to be too close for comparison, but I don't recognise any description that gives an image of a no-go area of the dance floor. I didn't go the night Granada went, I think quite a few stayed away that night, wanting to turn our back on the media attention. There had been a stage 'vote' previously that clearly rejected allowing cameras in. To be honest I regret that now, wishing I was on some video footage, although given my dancing the cameras would've probably avoided that shot.

We are alright in Ipswich (not too far from Cambridge) as showing the film all week from Friday 24th Oct at Ipswich Film Theatre (with Matinees too).

 

This is on in Cinema 2 which has a limited number of seats so if anyone is coming from a distacne it would be best to reserve seats to avoid disappointment.

I went to quite a few of the dance classes in London, the energy of those young adults was amazing and made me feel like I'd gone back in time. Brilliant afternoons, and Paul Sadot was a superb coach, unprescriptive so that each dancer could develop their own style from the basics. Old people's footwork was not needed (although I did join in the dancing at the back of the class and at Blackburn......it was just too electric not to!).

The making of this film has, in my opinion, given the scene some new energy and I for one am grateful for its contribution which goes way beyond the film itself.

The imminent release of the film has actually exposed the inadequacy of the film screening industry in the country. Here's a film that loads of people want to see but Odeon, Top Rank or whoever owns the multiplex chains are unable to respond to demand, probably because they are unaware of some events in the film industry. Last I heard, cinema receipts were down as fewer folk were watching films for a number of reasons. When will the multiplex chains such as Everyman, Vue, Cineworld, Picturehouse, Empire etc wake up to the potential of a paying audience out there?

Right..I think I got Sky on the case. I believe there is something being shot/edited for this weekend. Could be wrong. I have given them all the contacts and history. The producer thinks its a fabulous story and I have been my effervescent self engaging about the scenario. I was in Hull, not Wigan, but...I identify with much of what is going on in the film. So hopefully a world wide airing of this to follow. It seems the Ebola crisis is flavour of the month for FOX London. I was going to attempt a back door entrance via FOX Detroit..that's how I got the Darrell Banks story aired over there years ago. I will be on the case later with that..

Load of us going to Teesside Park on Saturday then on to TGI Friday's for some Soul Food to discuss the movie over Steak and a few beers!

I was at the casino when they filmed, I understood that the film crew turned up on a sat night and the crowd was crap so they came back on a Fri oldies night, the first shot of the inside of the casino which you would think was the start of the night in in fact the end of the night - it shows Derick Mead (bisley) and the Aldershot coach lot getting ready to leave and head off south.

Every time the lights went on its true some people left the floor at least _30% or ran for cover up (this use to be called cracking up) to Mr ms - I was unaware that it was knowledge that they were filming that night , we just turned up, first thing I knew was coming in the door and a blinding light in my face - I can also be spotted in the outtakes in the record bar with the cap sleeve t shirt and flat cap on looking over someone's shoulder's at records, I was also right off my face, but look how controlled I was chewing gum - love it

There's 3 screens at the Arts, I just rang them to see what one we were in and she told me 2. It shows on the website what each seats. As for parking, their isn't any for that cinema (it's basically sharing the building with the Wetherspoons pub so easy to get a pint after  ). There is the shopping centre car park nearby (at the back of the Corn Ex) but that is very expensive. I'm gonna park at the Junction NCP and walk in. Only 10 min walk so hopefully the weather behaves!!

Agree it does seem strange especially considering the amount of times I take my kids to quarter full cinemas. Having said that Empire Basildon has picked it up which is a godsend as the ourscreen viewing in Stratford for Friday I planned to go to didn't get enough punters!

I just checked and Baz empire is now sold out for Friday night - anyone on here going? Can't wait ;-)

Ok, FOX Detroit contacted and 'educated' all being well. A Fox news person said to me at work yesterday about this:- "The British invasion of American imported records"! I contacted CBS New York and London on Sunday. Be nice if I could get a full house. 

 

I saw the film last week and am humbled by it. I realise the journey this music gave us back then was all worth while. I am heading for two NS events in London on Friday night. The power of this music has me under its spell....and I don't know many of the tracks on the CD accompanying the film. To have been there wow! I wish I had. Full circle for me now. The very music that made me want to write songs, has made me want to dance again......

There's a few shows throughout the day on the 18th, so anybody living local to Liverpool can get themselves down there and take in the show.
