Goose-pimple inducing Soulful dance!
It is records of this stature that convince me that listening or dancing to Rare USA Soul is the most-gratifying musical experience I personally could ever experience.
This record and the very few other known recordings of this unattainable calibre, take me and I’m sure you also, deep into a place nothing else can.
Awesome, street-level Cleveland, Ohio D.I.Y. Real Soul, saturated in mood changing influences. Sulking strings decorated by a desperately beseeching Womackesque vocal, come together sparking off the perfect “lost-Love” Soul struggle.
THIS IS RARE SOUL AT IT’S VERY, VERY FINEST!

From the fertile streets of Oakland, California comes the spring of 1970 Northern Soul crossover delight!
It is the same team that covered The Mylestones NS instrumental classic “The Joker” on Way Out Records, Bay Area “Natural Soul Band” guided by the prolific Jesse Mason. Mason takes a more subtle approach to their music this time, with a thoroughly classy soulful stroller.
The mysterious “one” recording only Mr. Wilson Love, displays such “cool” with his throaty cultured vocal, woven into a well endowed horn arrangement all served up at a most-refreshing pace.
This just floats from start to finish, little wonder over the years this rarity has graced the highly discriminating turntables of Soul Essence, Just Soul, The Orwell etc. where only the pinnacle of our music has the opportunity of an airing.
Like a returning lover, it’s been a long time since I’ve encountered this beauty, and it sounds even better than the first time I feel in completely in love with it..
Virgin “Unplayed” cocooned in it’s birth-sleeve until we lifted the impressive soundfile.

My first recollection of his sumptuous 45 was when I heard Paul Rudzitis play it on a Thursday night at a small club in Leicester circa 1972/73. and now more than 40 years past my Gas-fitting apprenticeship days; when I hooked up at night in Leicester with Plumber apprentice “Shelvo” to frequent the short lived “Lacarno” on Silver Street, Leicester Northern Soul events.
Rudzy was way ahead of his time, as in the same set he’d spin Life’s - Tell Me Why - as a new release. Playing to a handful of customers who had mostly had no idea what these two currently breaking Blackpool Mecca tunes were.
Today both records are considered jewels of our music. With The Montclairs always being a well received turntable choice; invariably filling a floor as the cultured harmony vocals glide through a terrific NS dance arrangement.
Collectors note; this aged Northern Soul artifact that has ignited euphoric recall of my formative years, is an eye-widening MINT. Utterly flawless in ever way…most likely unplayed until the impressive double soundfile was lifted - certainly needs to be kept at arms length way from grimy upstart Gas Fitters or plumbers for that matter.
Happy days…

1967 vinyl press Philippines PROMO
It is no secret that PIED PIPER I consider crafted the greatest 60s Soul productions any team has ever made. This double helping from the PP Gang from their premier male vocal group, perfectly qualifies that comment!
Not even an hint of commercial aspirations, as both sides are sodden in proper Soulful emotion, knitted together by the most easy to dance to, Motor City arrangements.
The writing skills of Lorraine Chandler & Jack Ashford set the tone for the A-side Northern Soul cruise, with Rare Earth’s Ray Monette & Mickey “Guitar” Baker laying down the lyrics for arguably the better of the two sides..
But it matters not which side you play, you’re treated to silky Detroit Northern Soul served up so very smoothly by one of it’s finest male-vocal-groups to migrate to Detroit.
Before you today is the insanely rare 1967 Philippines PROMO copy; pressed in high-fidelity VINYL - the USA Kapp counterpart is of course styrene…
I’ve personally have never seen a copy of this “impossible” variation before…have you?

The lure of the Red & White Tamla Motown DEMO never ceases to pull you in.
For those of you demanding flawless condition whilst on the journey of completing the TMG runs or indeed climbing the Tamla Motown “Everest” of owing all the Red & White Demo’s made. Let us assure to this offering is a sparkling Mint - throughout.
As you can see two spotless labels, original Birth-sleeve and vinyl that only reveals the merest sleeve brush blemish or two in strong light.
We doubt many will need reminding of the H-D-H genius that the grooves give vent to… but click the soundfile anyway to hear the Motown girl-sound at it most vibrant!

If your edging towards that magical milestone 60 years of age. This 45 will have the power to catapult your mind back to those heady days of The Torch, The Cats, Leeds Central, Saturday’s in Selec-A-Disc’s cellar, Friday mornings waiting by the leterbox for a Brian 45 Phillips or Soul Bowl list to drop through the door.
later on journey’s to Wigan Casino…this 45 screams the Northern Soul glory years of 1972 to 75.
So how pleased are we today to be able to offer you a near 50 year old “Virgin” copy in utterly like new condition.
We are guaranteeing this copy is UNPLAYED - soundfile lifted off a recent PROMO we just added to the website.
I don’t think I ever saw a mint unplayed copy back in the early 70s..so those of OCD about condition you will be over the moon to own this “lifetime filed” only copy!

As a young lad the most exciting thing to me was awaiting Saturday’s mail - it would contain the much-anticipation “Brian 45 Philips” set sale of Soul listings.
Wow, this guy always had tunes I’d never heard of but just by the titles I was sure I wanted to own. Jimmy Soul Clark - Come On And Be My Sweet Darling - being my first “surprise” purchase.. you can imagine after that I was addicted hook, line & sinker compelled to buying myself records that just looked good in type!
So when these words jumped off the page at me… SOULFUL TWO - FI-YI DANCE - PURE SOUL MUSIC ownership was imperative… but I was to be disappointed SOLD already.
It would be literally years and years before I even heard the record, but it never left my head… Artist, title & label branded in my mind forever…like some mystical dream..
Well, when I was to eventually own a copy I was not disappointed, always a sucker for a good instrumental - and this long-lost want was so different. It emitted the 1966 street-sounds of Los Angeles as Leon Haywood’s long-term associate Nathaniel Nathan crafted a simplistic but highly infectious mid-60s groove from a guitar and a set of Bongos…how talented is that.
Having guided instrumental group The Packers already to Northern Soul success this session could easily have followed “Go Ahead On” or “Hole In The Wall” but one thing stood in it’s way, unlike The Packers 45, The Soulful Two disc was seriously elusive, and never achieved the depth of play for it to take off big. Although I have been told it did receive muchlove from a few of the “Stafford” jocks.
Anyhow, this 45 still after 44 long years holds a special place in my head..and today it still flicks on all the adrenaline switches the returning of an old friend should do.
Rare, infectious and decidedly distinctive… love it!

Not many, if any English Soul collectors will be able to boast of owning this 1975 debut British outing for one of the timeless classics, from it’s Brian “45” Phillips “Twisted Wheel” beginnings to the recordings popularity peak of The Catacoombs / Golden Torch. Previously USA only release, that rose to floor destroyer status, taking over the NS baton from “Breakout” .
Before you today is one exceptionally rare and historical British studio acetate cut by Pye Studios for the 1975 Pye Disco Demand release #113 (where interestingly they misspelled Ryder as “Rider”) released to meet the huge demand created as Wigan Casino Jocks still featured it’s potency every Saturday, for it’s instant rapturous floor filling powers.
Direct cut - blaring brass carry Detroit-defiance along on a wave of total 60s-dance.
Historical - spelled correctly and so neatly written credits - we think it looks gorgeous, don’t you?

Independent 70s FUNK instrumentals do not get richer than this “kitchen-sink” production.
George Salas’s creation of “Southern Fried Funk” is full to overflowing with a maelstrom of horns, fabulous talented guitar picking, restrained and perfectly pitched keyboard work; all decorated by an insanely intrusive saxophonist. Iced to perfection when that guitarist twangy punctuations hit at exactly the right times.
As rare urban-FUNK goes this gathering have served up some real killers, this example being no exception, to the high standard these guys work to…
Strong, relentless stuff from a band of highly gifted musicians.

This weeks mid-price NS offering comes from studio of Henry “Juggy” Murray; one of New York’s hardest working music-men, again “Juggy” delivers the East Coast big production, with this, the original version of Bobby Scott & Artie Resnick’s much recorded song.
This Latin spiced, trumpet propelled Northern Soul chugger ripples with all those delicious Big Apple influences. Backing is littered with relentless girl chatterings, soaring brass elevating a “feminine” male vocal, that fits the atmosphere perfectly.
The hardest aspect of capturing this 45 - is condition - so often witnessed suffering from surface marks and label defacing.
This copy is a beauty, tiny BB drill being it’s only flaw.

a flawless 1966 New Yorker from the desk of the man who mentored Doris Troy to successful Soul-stardom.
Ex-Orioles “tenor” Gregory Carroll wrote and produced this Goliath of a stomper…so far away from his days of crooning “Crying In The Chapel” Mr. Carroll serves notice with thumpin’ piano intro, closely followed by screaming horns to accompany the high-pitched “Courcy” swagger, as she struts from one verse to another, elevated by the vocal-group chorus in the back-up.
First played by the legendary “Poke” at Cleethorpes Pier, volume right up.. I thought the structure would slip into the North Sea under such power….
Courcy-Power! Proper Norther Soul!!

From the Golden Days of Wigan Casino a NS CLASSIC in it’s most desirable and least seen form - a summer of 1966 British DEMO!
Shreveport, Louisiana trio who hit the big time with their Four Seasons styled performance with “Bread and Butter” but also broke through big into the British 60s all-night Club scene with the iconic “Run, Baby Run” a formative recording that hooked so many teenagers into a life of 60s “Soul” dance, through it’s Youth Club exposure of the early 70s on the back of Twisted Wheel anthem status through the 60s.
But before you today is pure-distilled Wigan Casino anthem and the certainly for me The Newbeats most-stimulating recording.
Immaculate condition still snoozing in it’s birth-sleeve…

Not only extremely RARE, is this weeks Sweet Soul offering. But it also carries a bonus tucked away on the flipside; in the form of a contagious blend of Jazz/Latin & FUNK!
I can tell you very little about the group or indeed of it’s origins; as this is the first time we have ever listed this obscurity for sale. But the label design and texture suggests the New York area. As does the fluid sweetness of the harmonies, as falsetto backing cushions the expressive lead vocal who seems at times to be in despair, very reminiscent of other N.Y. soulful ballads. Then towards the end comes the fabulously Deep and meaningful “Rap” break using a deep n’ husky Soul Man to get he message nailed..
Flip it over and Big Apple influences are again apparent with the FANIA influence 5.15 minute Saxophone dominated FUNK groove driven by a fusion of insanely frantic guitar work, rattling drumming, jazzy keyboard and that relentless saxophonist after a short break crashes back in with a vengeance!
More contrasting sides on one disc would be hard to find..but both sides give up compelling Off-The-Wall spontaneity.

If you lived at 18 Empire Road, Burton On Trent in the summer of 1969, you would not be thinking “Beer” at the weekend, after this envelope dropped through your letterbox.
An invitation to spend your Saturday nights on Whitworth Street, Manchester. A MOD oasis within the mediocrity of the British music scene, as the management and the DJ’s endeavored to offer the very finest in USA & British R&B / Soul acts and recordings.
Summertime for THE MODS meant the seaside and running battles with Rockers or Greasers as their name had been recently adjusted to. So the country’s primary all nite club did a special offer of 10 shillings on the door. What a bargain to see the likes of Jamo Thomas, Jimmy Ruffin, The Crystals, The Ronnettes or maybe James & Bobby Purify would attract?
Before you are Summer Attractions & Special Door Price flyers in the same condition as Mr. J. Watson viewed them way back in June 1969.
Authentic original Northern Soul club memorabilia has never been more sought-after - to acquire in this level of condition and still retaining the original franked envelope it was mailed in…is the pinnacle Northern Soul archiving .

The Twisted Wheel all nite sessions were only a year old when this 45 hit the streets of the UK. It is unclear to me at this time whether R&B pioneer Roger Eagle actually purchased it as a new release or it was to be discovered at a later date? But one thing is for sure over the following 6 years this 45 had such and impact and built up an unrivaled reputation that when UK Probe re-issued it in 1971 it shot straight to #ONE in the charts. To become the first real hit to ride on the back of a Northern Soul reputation.
Before you today is a 45 that after 1964 and it’s swift deletion was an impossible grail for “The MODS” a DJ trophy with very few equals..Joseph Pope’s singular vocal style fronting some ultra-smooth harmony backing woven into an irresistible dance rhythm. It smashed the charts and echoed around every British Friday night Youth Club session.
An historic 45 dripping with the breeding that made the Northern Soul scene the thing to be part of during your youth…never expecting it to be a lifetime thing..

ESSENTIAL British vinyl collectable.
