A new year and a new beginning for the fabulous Soul Source photography thread. We've had so many fantastic contributions from so many members over two very long-running and very lengthy threads now, so it makes sense to start afresh.

For people who perhaps haven't contributed before, the idea is very simple: although the emphasis has been on nature/wildlife/flowers and scenic views, just post up and share pics you've taken of, well, just about anything.

Here's three from me, which were taken today in a small nature reserve behind Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Although it started out as a very clear and sunny afternoon, conditions changed very quickly and it became very overcast - and, I have to say, there was very little in the way of birdlife to see. Perhaps they'd all cleared off elsewhere as the place was pretty busy with people out burning off the Christmas calories.

I'm no expert or critic on the subject but I thought that there were some absolutely cracking pictures. Do any of you enter them into competitions?

   

Not the usual Wildlife pic's, but.....

From a classic show I went to a while back. Some retro Fast Fords.

And, the best name for an internal combustion engine....... ever!.

  Bill. I second that. There's some fabulous pictures been posted on this thread, big thanks to Russell for  starting it in the first place. Really looking forward to seeing more of the same this year.

Remember in the old days when you had that one friend who owned a car ?

My friend Stu Conlon ( now in oz ) had a lovely red Escort Mexico , but it was too good for us to sit in haha !!!

Many of the pictures which have been posted are professional standard in my opinion - although I'm no expert either. However, I can say hand on heart that I've seen some of the best wildlife, and other, photographs on the SS thread. Well done everyone - keep them coming.

Liked them 70's Fords - very nice.

I did have one of these - someone unscrewed all of the front wheel nuts whilst attending Notts Odd Fellows niter in Leicester once.

Lord knows why I remember, but these pics remind me of a one-liner which shows its age immediately to anyone who understands it at all, and it's that...

A new model of car is to be introduced called the Ford Pubic, which is built on old Corsairs...

A nice pike,note the healed scar near tail.Probably survived an otter attack when younger.

A male & female Siskin out in the rain ... bet they wished they had stayed at home for the winter 

I love Siskins, Redpolls, Twite, Linnets, all pretty little singing birds, my father used to have captive bred ones to cross with canaries when I was a boy, he got very upset when I let them go

Martyn. Its nice to see some different birds . I,ve just been adding up my year list for 2015 and it was 149 different species, that was country wide. One local birder had that many at Elton reservoir nr Bury . But that sort of dedication is bordering on a obsession if you ask me

New Years Day I got a distant flight snap of a Glossy Ibis, I was just testing some settings for flight shots and as it was still pretty gloomy, and the bird distant I had not really clocked what it was looking through the viewfinder, then I zoomed in on it on the back screen ... that really pissed off the regular birders who had all left the hide about five minutes before it flew over.

I don't keep a list of birds Steve, I do this as a hobby ... I count things for my job 

Excellent photo's on here. A couple from me on top of Snowdon New Years Day. Not often you have that place to yourself for half an hour

Andy. I have never seen Snowdon's summit empty before. Nice one. Great pictures, Do you carry a dslr up with you or do you use a digital zoom type ?

Cheers Steve. My camera is a Sony compact dsc hx50. I don't have a big posh thing :-) It's ok but not as good as the predecessor but that got water in it on the Carneddau!!!!! Second time I've been there when it's been empty.

They don't sit still for long.

With a bit of luck, I'm hoping to get some pictures of the iconic flying Scotsman sometimes tomorrow at Heywood, near Bury. Just caught a glimpse of it today, I could see the steam from its chimney in the distance then when I got to the level crossing where I could see down the line it was just leaving Heywood station. So just the briefest of glimpse.

Proper wasp nest Andy. Spent many a time looking for the nests. Very difficult to find in woodlands esp oak woods from which they build their nests from the chewed up bark. Used the grubs for fishing. Best roach and chub bait ever. Got stung a few times for my troubles.

I hope all is well. Yes, I saw your post just after. I was going to have a guess at the type of nest but thought best left to those that know better.

It's a great photograph which reinforces just how amazing, wonderful and beautiful nature is.

A wasps!  

Like lots of natural things it looks like a work of art - a thing of great beauty, yet something which creates and sustains life. Amazing.

Thanks for the comments. These two are in a house my brother is doing up, above the bedroom window. The plaster was loose but luckily all the little blighters have had it Tried getting the down as a whole nest but so fragile they crumble as soon as they are touched. Amazing things.

Glad you liked the Snowdonia pics. Hoping I may be there again this coming weekend with all the snow about

I know of a wild bees nest that has been in a particular tree for years and gets very busy in the warmer weather. I'll try and get a decent photo of it next time I'm passing it but it is about 20/30ft up. This is one from a couple of years back and you can just make out the bees

They have paper wasps in Spain, clever little recyclers of rubbish that build nests attached to grasses.  Doesn't make them any less vicious as many a young boy with a stick will tell you.  They aren't that common, preferring areas away from humans, for obvious reasons.

Good Evening Peter. Me to mate. Filled them all today. And just as important gave them fresh drinking water. 

As you can see from the picture of the Swan the lake was mostly frozen over and its a large body of water which takes some freezing so winter is finally here and too stay for a while hopefully to get nature back in synchronization
