So hard to choose! All brilliant. Went with the Nasty just for its modern feel, but would love to own all of them. Ed

Black Nasty 45 took me by suprise thought it was lp only, little bit of investigation shows its a photo shop :(

Defo Audrey Matthews (especially for the dodgy Classiest Rarities CD cover design courtesy of me/Carne Whitney Partners!) - I'm sure everyone knows by now but Black Nasty were Johnnie Mae's kids.

hah yep that caught me out

have put in a different video now 👍

Johnnie Mae Matthews - but only just. The rawness in her voice makes me believe that she really means it.

Same for me, its just more polished in production terms.

I feel that Johnnie Mae Matthews  is the safe option but I voted the Black Nasty version,

amazing production, works perfectly for my mood this time of the year

How do you vote on this ? Three simply sublime pieces of soul music all produced and arranged with passion.

Audrey Matthew's ( I think  )

But the Black Nasty version is a brilliant modern take on it.

Johnnie Mae Matthews version simply blew me away when I first heard it at a nighter.

The  Sharon McMahon version from Heyley records is different from the one posted,

all the versions are excellent

Nice version.  Very two step-ish. . Not quite as strong as the other takes in my humble opinion

Myself and Graham Finch spent an afternoon at Johnnie Mae’s house on Santa Barbara in September 2001.

When the ‘so called’ version by Audrey was played to JM she declared that she had no idea whose voice it was.

JM’s son Artwell appeared later and gave the same opinion.

Unfortunately Audrey was out of town that day but we do have another track to make comparison with under her pseudonym Kaiya.

Someone must release this soon,I only have the Jimmy Delphs version,

video clip is mine

Back when JMM started it's domination of the rare soul scene, I remember some of the boys playing the Black Nasty version at venues like Albrighton etc and I was completely dismissive of it, because I was doing a straight comparison. I will always adore JMM, but these days I understand the Black Nasty and how it's different approach has something to offer.
Older & Wiser maybe, but still voted JMM

Johnnie Mae Matthews for me.

The others are good but Johnnie Mae Matthews is exceptional - beautiful piece of music.
