She was mainly considered much more of a jazz singer ... but did make a lot of fine soul recordings too .... 

 

Her producers seemed (many times) to aim her tracks at the MOR market, but she could still put in a very soulful performance ..... personally, she liked to think to refer to herself as a 'song stylist' ...

She had 3 7" EP's released in the UK, some others in Europe plus quite a few '7" 'Little LP' jukebox albums in the States.

Any of these would look great framed up & hung on a 'record room' wall ....

Another fine singer leaves us. She covered a wide range of styles. I've always liked her version of Where Does That Leave Me.

As soon as the first few bars kicked in you could see people moving onto the floor into position then the vocals kicked in at the Casino - spinners loved it - one of my all time favourites - Thanks for the music and memories - RIP    Nancy 

She did a great version of "Reach out for me" I have it on an US EP.

R.I.P. Nancy, another Great gone, what a Voice you had, like so many others Your End Of Our Love number led me into a passion for Northern Soul. 

"End of our Love" was essential for all soul boys. Will give her jazz cd a blast later. RIP Nancy.

So sad to hear of Nancy's passing-a wonderful,unique voice.

'Don't Look Over Your Shoulder' is an underplayed gem of hers(flip of 'Mercy,Mercy Mercy' ,67')

Nancy's versions of 'Uptight (Everything's Alright)' and 'Goin' Out Of My Head' are my favourites of those two (both on the fine A 'Touch Of Today 'LP)

She also did a nice version of Little Willie John's 'Suffering With The Blues' on an LP

Although classed as a Jazz singer ,Nancy defied categorisation really,much like one of her heroes and inspirations,the great Little Jimmy Scott

 

Just fantastic 

 

Always rated the flipside to "The End Of Our Love" , "Face It Girl ,It's Over" RIP Nancy

Sad to hear of this, her Wigan monster made me aware of her, so when "I've never been to me" came out in 1977 I got hold of it  - turned out that the flip side was the one: "Here it comes". Nice 70s dancer with a good break at about 2 minutes in then building back up for the ending.

 

R.I.P Nancy Wilson, plenty of tributes no doubt this weekend in the social clubs, lots of tunes to choose from.
