You should be able to find audio and video of him with us at Soultripusa Los Angeles 2004

His other major NS credit is Alexander Patton.

Both James and I along with Alex and Fred Smith were photographed in the Point Moorea Bar In LA during the event. One of the Soultripusa group took it. Dave Ferguson perhaps?

I would like to ask if anyone knows why the writers credits were so different on the same release here in the UK on Jay Boy

Was this just a mess-up or was there another reason ?.

Must likely just a mistake or due to lack of time/attention.

I guess they licensed the tracks from Fred Smith and just slapped his name on them for some reason.

Both songs are registered with BMI according to the writers on the Keymen labels.

There are lots of sides where writers, artists, arrangers, family and friends, etc, - who have nothing to do with the actual recording, get put on or share credits. In many cases, everybody knew everybody else in a certain ‘music town’ (so to speak), and this was a way of looking after each other as  “Brothers & “ Sisters”.

I agree but on the other hand there was a lot of stealing going on as regards credits too, I think in this case we may never know though

i think the point i was (badly) trying to make was about writers credits on 'the original' versus the UK imprint. When (and by the time) it got to Edward Kassner's label ( Jay Boy, President, etc) a. he wasn't that bothered, b. more info was available. There are many examples across these labels where those credited differ from the original.

Did Fred Smith ever own the rights to the label or the recordings ? Randy Wood founded the label didn't he ?  Until several years later when his various enterprises failed and  he filed for bankruptcy in the early 70s . Did Fred Smith ever have a commercial stake in the ownership of the label ? Who was doing the licensing to President in the UK in the early 70s ?
