Happy New Year to one and all. A new year means a new beginning, so here is what is now the 10th Soul Source photography thread.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed over the years, whether by posting up pics, commenting on them, or simply liking them.

My first contribution is a short iPhone slo-mo vid of some fireworks as seen from our balcony as 2021 departed and 2022 began.

Here's to a great year ahead!

A recent mid-week trip to Brussels saw us, among other touristy things, visit the Musical Instruments Museum. Must admit to being initially sceptical, but it was well worth the visit.

The many musical delights include a selection of brass instruments made by Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone (I did post this elsewhere on SS recently), and a surprisingly early 'pocket' gramophone player that was also known as a 'cameraphone'!

A rare excursion out in the dark for me these days , but I needed to get away from the bloody football and the Eurovision fiasco ... :sleep3:

A quick test of the 'new' Canon 450D that I picked up for £40.00 last week (clean as a whistle and only 3000 on the clock , but it's diopter's bust ... but that's not needed when it's shoved up the back of a 'scope and tethered ...  )

Was getting ready for the eclipse shoot I had planned but that's likely to be thwarted by the weather now ... :(

Shot 240 frames , stacked 120 of them. The orientation's a bit off as I had to rotate the camera rather than adjust the variable Barlow.

A few from Saturday from a a damp then sunny snowdonia.  Caterpillar from the Drinker Moth. Came across quite a few of these.  Atmospheric conditions looking down the Ogwyn Valley and Dyffryn Mymbyr. The third is when sun came out over Llyn Cowlyd and yes it was that colour. All taken with my phone

Whilst walking up in Northumberland a Stonechat started distracting us from what must have been the nesting site it came within about 3 feet of us just managed to grab the phone and take a picture.

Saw quite a few others out and about in the dune lands.

Also Dunsatnburgh Castle from Craster side.

Not messed around with the camera and a light box in ages - a few years, to be exact. We had some over-ripe fruit at home and I thought that if I left them for a few days they'd be interesting to photograph as still-life subjects. Setting things up, I realised I was way out of practice. It didn't help that I don't have any really suitable lighting and ended up using some free-standing spotlights - very Heath Robinson!

Fun to do, and perhaps oddly, I do like taking pics of things in decay. Things like that have a lot of character and texture about them. Well, I think so, anyway.

There was rain with the early morning sunshine. I said to my better half I reckon that with the sun being out the front, there's a good chance of a rainbow out the back. And sure enough, there was...

Fed up with all those boring greyscale images so I left the colour alone last night.

Didn't bother aiming for high detail as it was  low in the sky veiled with thin cloud and the seeing was awful.

And caught my first 'interloper' in about eight years ...

Some 450,000 DSLR frames captured on Solar and Lunar imaging in that period but rare to catch one despite being so close to a Stansted stack and RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall.

Took a walk up what’s known locally as the 'The Scenic Drive' , quite a view looking back into the valley.  Look behind you from this point and you can see the whole of the Seven Estuary, Seven Bridge and way off Avonmouth and Weston Super-Mare.

Hosted an engagement party in the garden last week. Erected the gazebo in the morning, tables and chairs out, bunting and balloons mounted, guests arriving at 2pm....

At 1pm Mr Wind Gust turned up.....

Certainly provided a topic of conversation!

Guess physics and geography weren't your strongest subjects ...

3 corners anchored down with double pegs, 4th corner weighted down with about 15kg. 6 guide ropes.

Approx 18 square meter exposed to an uplift wind gush...no competition.

Great party though and luckily this event did not happen 2 hours later!

Just got back from Yorkshire east Coast, walked to Flamborough saw about 40 seals ,Tide was in and they were playing in this bay for ages some nearly comong onto beach at times and swimming in and out of the caves.

There were supposed to be shots on the phone but when i got home the elusive buggers had avoided me ,mind you we were a fair distance away but  here are a couple of shots of the bay in question.

Apparently everyone had headed for Bempton Cliffs as there was an Albatros there.IMG_20220612_144218(1).thumb.jpg.d44db59ef90d9cfcae2529971826fd1f.jpg
