Posted January 10, 200916 yr Following on from the What record got you in to soul topic i was surprised by the seeming young age of replys,As a dodering 53 year old come on whats your age? most people i see about seem around the same age as me.
January 10, 200916 yr I would say that the average age of a Northern Soul fan is approx 53. Because Northern Soul was invented in the early seventies. However, the average age of a Rare Soul fan is probably 31.

January 10, 200916 yr 46, a relative youngster I seem to have been doing this forever though, who else thought 30 yrs ago that they'd still be doing soul clubs this far down the road?

January 10, 200916 yr 39 (for a few more days) i would think the average age must be around 50, quite a bit lower on the RnB scene
January 10, 200916 yr I'm 56 this year and i went my first venue (THE TORCH) in DECEMBER 1971. I would say the average age would be about 50 years old, unluckily i don't go any more due to i'll health. REGARDS TO ALL thenogger
January 10, 200916 yr I'm 53 & I reckon I'm just about on the young side of the 1st phase of soul fans. There's a bigger group who are now aged 47 to 49 ? who got interested when it gained popularity in the mid seventies. Don't know if this rings true. Ade
January 10, 200916 yr I'm 48 this year, too young for the Wheel,Pendulum Torch etc.and during the Casino years the lads I knew who were regulars went to the pub first,I struggled to get served till I was 21 so bottled it when it came to Wigan! Now I'm out most weekends with a couple of lads who went to Station Rd. and I never miss the Wheel now so I'm living on the music and their memories, what an education that is !
January 10, 200916 yr big 50 this year still enjoying it still doing regular nighters wont stot til i drop
January 10, 200916 yr Interesting replys, as some one who as a son of 30 [who though being bombarded with the stuff for years as all my kids have ] as absolutly no interest in the music what so ever ,and is in to the same as his mates,I am also in a local scooter club the age of the members is around 30 i would say but they dont seem that interested in the soul more jam and ska .So how would some one around 30 get in to this world, back in the day late 60s early 70s if you went out i was 15/16 every one seemed older than me ,the soul sams minch ect they must be well in to there 60s and look at sam he must be the top modern soul dj in the land .

January 10, 200916 yr This one is 30! In answer to Soul.boy - you ask how someone of my sort of age gets into NS and for me it was due to the same environment as your lad... he went one way and I went another. My parents are both big NS fans, my Dad used to have a superb collection - a combo of classics and rarities. My old dear was more inclined to like the classics only. My heart always lies with the classics and in particular real good uptempo tracks, the ones you can dance to... I cannot move to a slow song for love nor money!

January 10, 200916 yr Very interesting...the ages so far have been relatively low compared to what I... for one... would have assumed...could it be that SS has an unusually young demographic compared to the scene in general? Edited January 10, 200916 yr by Beeks
