Kids under 12 get in free, I believe - We're going 'en famille' on one of the days, haven't decided which one yet. As Al says, it's not too pricey for a day ticket, all things considered...

I may go mad and go for the Saturday night and take my tent.

It's been a while since I went to a proper festival. In fact it's been a while since I put my tent up..I attempted it in the garden the other day but failed miserably.

I think I may need to get one of those pop up tents

I'm down for the Sunday night which is just as well as I've got the 100 Club on the Saturday. It's certainly ambitious and different so let's hope it goes well.

I was only saying to Helen last Saturday night, after a nice bottle of Merlot, that it's been a while since I put my tent up. Sadly, from the respose I got I think she feels my camping days may be over...

i'm going too. we'll be playing a set on one of the evenings but i think i would be going anyway.

its a very ecelctic mix with some well respected acts. i go to the goodwood revival probably every other year and if it is anywhere near as well done as that it will be great. there will be a whole lot more on offer than just the music too.

as for prices, its about average festival price. not really the (mainstream) superstar acts you get at many festivals but its not about that with this ...... and the other stuff on offer should make it a great experience.

definitely something different, a real good mix of styles/eras.

if i wasn't in the camper van i'd be tempted to travel up and back from portsmouth. its only about a 30 min drive ........ and a guy i know locally has chartered an old red routemaster bus to go up and back on the saturday. i think the event itself has done the same for people arriving by train.

of course, they could always get a cab!

From Eddie Piller...... just had an odd request from my vintage ar goodwood boss wayne hemingway - he's asked me if there are any soul record dealers who would like to sell discs by the side of the stage in the soul casino! over the weekend (a la wigan etc)- no rent either and you gat a free pass - genuine dealers only but mail me if you are one!! ed@acidjazz.co.uk

I'll be there on the Sunday along with 5 other freinds & family.

We're on holiday in Dorset anyway so it's only a short drive.

£55 for a day ticket 'aint that bad for what's actually on - Ali & I have been to many festivals over the years and they're extremely pricey these days.

What's not listed in the programme which I heard today is that Johnnie Walkers Sounds of the Seventies show will be live with guests The Faces. I read recently that Rod the mod won't be re-joining and that Mick Hucknall is his replacement!! Might be interesting.

There seems to have been a "reality Check" with prices from the original gumph

i'd like to wish all who are going and the organisers the best of luck with this-from small acorns mighty oaks do grow--

i'd looked early on and unless you "Camp" it was way too expensive

however with a bit of savvy it can be done at a reasonable price

Ive listen to wayne on BBC Radio2 and its all systems go--if my knee was in better shape and the battery not flat on the karrman Ghia I'd seriously consider it

Yep, really looking forward to this. It's pretty ambitious but I think they may have hit the nail on the head with this type of event. Someone for everyone by the looks of it with interesting live acts for all, fashion for the ladies and the more sartorially elegant among us, plenty of attractions for families and, most important, plenty of Soul from all eras with a well-though-through line-up so big props to Wayne and all the curators.

I think it'll be a belter!

used to have a off the cuff bit of a laugh rule on here many years ago

i used to hit johnnie ot with it now and again

was along the lines of

if ya plug a event more than 5 times you are duty bound to do a review

seeing that this has been left up here in aats (due its one off sort of unusual event feel)

am sure that with all the pics, artists mentioned and that there be a few who be curious how it all went

so would any of you going be up for throwing a lookback up after it all ?

Yep, I can do a review of the Saturday/Sunday but it could be very subjective 'cos I'm almost guaranteed to have a good time - too many mates there to fail really. So you'll get a predictably optimistic slant from me I reckon. Hopefully a few people can give their views because there's plenty of S.S.ers going in different guises, I.e. DJ's, Sellers and Vintage/Retro fans etc so it'll be interesting to see what peope's views are. There's been a huge upswing in interest and ticket sales in the last couple of weeks so hopefully they've timed it just right!

Should hear some great music too! Earth, Wind & Fire and Leroy Hutson live plus a great DJ lineup that has me salivating as a fan. Oh and if the missus is getting on yer nerves just send 'em to the shops. Job done. It's a no brainer for me!

Just got back from Vintage & have to say I enjoyed it immensely.

The Soul Casino was great so thanks to the DJ's in there not least Ady, Jo & Val.

Only caught one band on the Soul Stage although I didn't get their name. They were very good and it was a nice touch to have guests do some numbers with them.

Beverley Knight guested with The Feeling on the main stage & she was as ever the professional.

Enjoyed the rock tent too although very strange to hear Keb playing rockabilly! The best bit of the whole day for me was The Damned who were effin great but that's another story not for here.

Only one gripe and that is the lack of WC's...

had a great weekend too ............ like mick i saw the damned who i thought were a bit half and half. the earlier punky stuff was great but the rest went on a bit. loved the polecats .... and jessie and the orbits. buzzcocks good, liked earth wind and fire and a bit of heaven 17. soul casino was an excellent venue too!

I thought the entire weekend was a gas. The festival was brilliantly organised and the attention to detail was fantastic. Every one of the different venues and stages all had great sound systems and there was just tons of tons of things to see and places to go. The Soul Casino was absolutely rocking it most of the time and the refreshing thing was seeing so many younger people getting off on Northern and 70's Soul. The music was almost universally great, whichever venue you happened to be in and I thought all the DJ's worked their nuts off. A brilliant nice eclectic LARGE crowd who were pretty much up for anything. Very refreshing.

This was a 100% sell-out with over 20,000 people in attendance over the 3 days and 22,000 on Saturday by all accounts. Hats off to Wayne Hemmingway for getting it so right in every detail. I'm looking forward to next year already!

Unfortunately after that some guy from Kiss FM came on & completely ruined it for us, some horribly slow dance records to start with followed by a modern mix of 'Superstition' & a horrible cover of a Radiohead record, it was like a Saturday nights kid disco down some chav club, absolutely horrible & we left half way through it was so bad.

That was the only bad point though & the whole day was mindblowingly amazing!

I couldn't even get in it was so packed on Saturday night so I thought I'sd take a look in the 'Let it Rock" maquee, only to hear some brilliant R&B/Popcorn and had room to dance too!!

To see Anne Sexton and Joe Bataan in one day.....incredible!! The whole weekend was fantastic!.

A girl I work with went and said it was bosting ! Not a soulie at all (25 !!!) but she said she knew all the words to some of the songs cos I've been brain washing her the last 2 years !!!

I had a great time DJing in the Soul Casino on Friday night, brilliant weekend all round.

Probably spent most time in the 50's arena, some tremendous r'n'b being played in there!

Had to leave Sunday lunchtime though...

good to meet you briefly friday night john ....... i was the one that didn't look like lemmy!

like you i think i spent most time in the let it rock tent. mainly watching bands but caught a couple of bits of keb darge spinning rockabily stuff and a female DJ (who didn't seem to be advertised by name on the roster) spinning some nice r&b-ish stuff around midnight on saturday night.

I really loved the weekend, as did my wife and kids and we will definitely be returning should Vintage be on again next year!

Ann Sexton was sublime, worth going just for that! She was amazing and what a lovely woman too!

Leroy Hutson was excellent (Hobbsy if you're reading this, you owe me a pint, as it was 1989 the last time he was here! Good luck with the interview with the great man this week too!)

And just how good was Joe Bataan? Bloody brilliant he was! I'm still aching now from dancing to him for 90 minutes solid!

Three acts all on the Soul Stage that i will remember for many a long year!

There was tons of other stuff going on but i'll keep it to that for now!

Agreed! I think I heard Eddie say over the mike that it was the best gig he'd done in 30 years didn't he? I was out having fun in the crowd and the atmosphere was absolutely electric. The thing that struck me is the floor was absolutely ram-packed with an age range of 18-60 and everyone was getting off. Quite simply one of the gigs of the century and a refreshing burst of optimism for the future in my book because Vintage @ Goodwood will undoubtably set the pace for events from this point forward. The Sunday night session in the Soul Casino was slightly less jammed but the atmosphere was equally brilliant. Absolutely awesome....and that was just the Soul Casino.

When you consider that the other arenas were equally as busy it's mind-boggling that everything worked so perfectly. I spent quite a bit of time at the Warehouse and that was equally as good as the Casino in terms of atmosphere. The clips are already appearing on You Tube - this guy's caught a whole heap of sets all around the festival, so everyone can scroll through the clips.....

An unbelievable event that will undoubtably become a yearly event for everyone's diary! Simply awesome!
