Butch playing Mello Souls at the 100 club about 5 years ago about 3-30am, it was the first time i had been to a nighter and the first time i had heard the tune being played out half way through his set and wow still get goosebumps thinking about it

Wigan, June 77, dancing to Cool Off, just when he says "Hey you over there, will you get me a drink of...pop" I did a huge handclap and it started everyone joining in for a few bars, I've actually got that on tape and it always makes me smile - was just unsual as there's not usually a big clapping break there

The first time I heard "Because of You" blasting through the sound system at a soul nighter.

stafford,early 80s,johnny gilliam-room full of tears,the orchestral break in the middle of the song,gear in full flow, nearly cried with happiness at that moment, i had thousands more moments like that at stafford,the happiest days of my life,fillin up now just thinking about it

I sold Greety "Meet Me Halfway" sometime in 79. It was my old copy and I sold it for a friend to him.

I think it could have Ian Gillabrand's name on it, in the run out grooves.

Been to lots of great venues & danced to lots of great sounds been lucky enough to hear lots of great DJ’s & I’ve been in the zone plenty of times singing along with the choons as I dance, but one magic moment for me was hearing the drifters - Pour Your Little Heart Out for the first time in 2006 it wasn’t that it was the best track I’ve ever heard or danced to it was just that it was more than 1500 miles away in Tenerife, I remember thinking this is brilliant hearing a new tune that was giving me a new feeling of soul pleasure all those miles from home it was amazing (Magic moments eh! its not all about being 16 again)

Wigan Friday Oldies, 3-ish so you can imagine I was in a fairly upbeat mood, dont know Dj was, but 'Don't Depend on me' , just got into it and it was my favourite record - for some reason the instrumental break always does it for me.

Blackpool Mecca. Early 74. Combination of chalkies and brown and clears. Everything great in the world. Then Curtis pops Bari Track on, covered as Lebaron Strings. I dont think I ever felt better in my life , then or since. Just superb

First time I heard Love Factory at Wigan the long intro followed Fantastic Johnny C think Frank (Ian Dewhurst) was playing them

Butch playing the mello souls @ Jollies in stoke, around 88 and getting chairs thrown across the dancefloor at him by the stoke oldies brigade! PMSL. nothings changed!

A more serious one would be, Guy playing 'Down and out' to around 50 lost souls at the end of a blackburn nighter around 87.

I twirl about to many awesome records so hard to pick just one pant wetting episode .. however, Dyson playing the Hopkins brothers, Mick playing the appointments and Mello souls were three. All started by hearing out on the floor in 1979 \o/

Many amazing memories on the floor, a few stand out ones at the DDA rooms in Lowton hearing new sounds that tore me apart on the floor... I think more recently a set by Frank Giacobbe at the Greatstone Soul Club from start to finish didn't let me sit down so that perfect moment lasted about an hour NO JOKE!...that feeling of natural endorphins racing through my body, no drink or drugs needed just pure soul that lifted me up way higher than any of that shit... oh yeh cheers for that set Frank was sublime....

Mick H playing Ernie Johnson in Carl and Marias room in Prestatyn a few years back, bliss....

The first time I ever heard the Oxford Knights played out by Carl Willingham at the Dublin Rowing Club all-dayer years ago, i nearly hit the roof! got cramp in both legs straight after it ha...

And final memory, hearing the drifter played at the end of my first all-nighter and tears streaming down my face, nothing ever felt so right, the music , me on the floor, it didn't need explaining ......

Many moments in my formative years, but heres 2 from the last 15 years or so.......100 Club the first night Ady dropped the first batch of unreleased RCA Pied Piper stuff........f*ck me, now that was special & Sam Dees at the Uptown Down South Newbury Nighter when he sang 'lonely For You Baby' live.......the culminations of months of planning, not knowing even on the night whether he would do it for sure & the look on the faces of the crowd when the first few bars pounded out.......wooooooooossssshhhhh !!!.

Hearing the Pyramid at a St Ives all dayer in the early 80's was quite something.

Remember being down the 100 Club circa 1991. Just coming back from the car full of beans and as we came down the stairs 'Angelina oh Angelina' was just starting up... Straight on the floor and tuned in dancing, oblivious to any other goings on, just Stewart & fast feet!

Many happy memories of the halcyon 90's at the 100.. Jimmy Bo Horn, Cleveland Robinson, Jean Carter - and hearing the issue take of Stepping Out Of the Picture for the first time - spiritual! 1.30 till 8 - Ady, Butch, Mick, Shifty, Guest - Mouth watering days. Glad to have been there, we ate it up with a spoon.

Early memory for me was the last time I went to the casino, which was a couple of weeks before the anniversary in 77, I promised my intended that I'd stop 'the madness'. The coach left St Peters in Bedford and then it was just long buzz. When we got there I did all the things romanticised in all the books, threw my bag down on the floor, started dancing, have no idea what to, and continued virtually the whole night, didn't talk to anybody just danced. Great memories over the last decade or so, the Dome, scenesville, These Old Shoes, the 100, early lifelines at Sheridans. A few records stand out for me, hearing Andy Rix at Kempston Rovers play 'world of happiness', couldn't get over how good it was, still can't. Hearing Ady C play 'Gettin to me', at the 100. The last one was during an all dayer at the Locarno a few years ago, Chalky was playing in the slightly smaller room and he put on Jean Wells, 'with my love', I think it was the first time I'd ever gone up to the DJ and said what was that (not the sort of thing I did/do) stunning record. Of live acts, The Dells at Trentham, Barbara Lynn at the Cala Gran, Steve Mancha and the Contours at Q11 nighter in Brum. As has already been said too many to list

Too many moments to mention over the last 20+ years, one that seems to stick in my mind is hearing 'summer in the parks' at the last ever Cleethorpes Winter gardens, the gear had kicked in big time, i was in a fantastic mood and then this comes on, it all just fell into place right there and then, superb!!! There have been countless similar moments in the past and no doubt plenty to come...

Anytime someone whacks on the Temps - Girl Why You Wanna Make Me Blue - most recently by Ollie at Nunhead - Also hearing Getting to Me last summer at the 100 dedicated by Ady to the Norwich crowd 30 mins after I'd been verballing to him outside about the virtues of this track and his great story about discovering the acetate up the street on Hanway Street - First time i'd heard it played out, being a recent returnee to the scene - nice one Ady!

Hard question, just so many. If I had to pick one it would be Benny Spellman - This Is For You My Love at The Dome, dodging the potholes in the dancefloor always made it a memorable experience.

Brian Rae playing Rubin - You Been Away at Brum Locarno always sticks in the memory, the floor was huge and there were very few people there and it felt like they had opened it just for me.

Or running up the steps at Wigan to be greeted by the opening bars of Lou Pride, now that was memorable.

I suppose any moment when the dancefloor feels like the only place in the world, everyone is sharing the experience and my dancing is bang on with the rhythm. Sometimes it just all comes together.

jonnhy beggs spinning 'right on' alternate mix @ Bidds, is a recent one for me, as was hearing Butchs 'just like the weather' at lifeline.

Just recently it's got to be the coasters more surprising, its a classic oldie and to be played at life line with the rarest of rarest it was a perfect moment for me, one of my favourite oldies of old time and did the most perfect box split ever i think andy's bit of an oldie at heart thanks for that moment andy catch up with you soon life line cheers billy

Nice thread. 100 Club and Dome always stand out. Remember the first time I braved the dancefloor was at Yate. My 2nd or 3rd time - I'd gone my own. I knew a handful of records via the lad that got me going and one of them came on - the Crow. Seems it wasn't the most admired record at that venue at that time. Onto the floor I jumped, me and one other lad, not another soul on that vast expanse and boy did I feel conspicuous. Don't know how he felt.

first time at kings hall about 5 years back so many tunes ,some of which i was a bit board with but some how sounded so much better in that venue...acheing feet about to leave and then benny troy ...ok just one more dance

also a certain des parker tune at cheltenham a few years back which i can not reveal but was a 'run up to the decks moment' i'll never forget...and the last cheltenham ,was it long after tonight.... or it will never be over.... not sure but the lights up and everybody singing!

What a F**king Record.....

Cleethorpes weekender 2 years ago. I'd just got off the plane from Afghanistan - via the USA as we were working with the Yanks. MT home, double decker to Grim Town, drinks in Clee all afternoon, pissed as a tramp, but still high as ever, and couldn't stop dancing. Made the last 10 in the dance competition - god knows how (although I think Ken and Ady gave me the sympathy vote). It all went downhill from thereon in.

2.00 am, the main hall, Richard takes the to the decks, mumbles something in the mike, probably about a Spurs loss (many of those), then on it comes..........the first heart stopping chords of what was then covered up as Joe Matthews (Cecil Washington) for it's first spin (of many) of the night, a stampede ensues to the floor.............what we got for the next few hours?........Larry Clinton, Agents, Delights, Del Capreez (Construction).....soul heaven, happy happy days.

Not all gone forever though, had a great night last Saturday Northern Line Warrington, the beat goes onward & upward, mind you I too drunk to really appreciate the music.

Also heard some great news, don't know how true, but the above Mr Searling is re-starting the Lowton nights, I'm foaming at the mouth just thinking about it.

I've always thought of Dancing as personal rather than exhibitional ......(moreover because I'm below average at best ) However during my best efforts over the years, there are many tunes that have drawn me to the floor and filled my soul with a natural high, infact too many to mention.....Nowadays I tend to throw a few more shapes indoors, rather than when out, due to becoming more of a chinstroker and my liking for viewing vinyl ....I still get the hairs on the back of the neck standing up, when treading the carpet in front of my record deck however, and today during my weekly Detroit foray found myself going mental to Mikki Farrow-Set my heart at ease, amongst several other Pied Piper masterpieces and their ilk.....

Well...Most people could give you a lot of 'great' moments...Those being honest enough to describe the most intense, emotional, 'right in there' once in a lifetime moment, just might recall a perfect set of circumstances that might just have been compounded to an even further height by the use of narcotics...If that is boring, we apologise (kind of) but hey, fact and truth can be painful...

For me it would have to be 'Time' - Edwin Starr live at The Ritz mid to late 1970s (can never pin things down to an exact year as memory not so good). Dancing next to a mate who is sadly no longer with us.

On a general note I'm sure those who went to the Casino in the very early days will never forget the dancefloor reaction that 'Rhino' got whenever it was played.
