I have two...

1. The day I met my wife after a little bit of Internet banter. It was the Ritz and as promised, she came up to accept the beer I offered.

2. My mum coming to the Skeggy ender on a Sunday afternoon to pick us up, seeing that the scene is not all "drugs n rock n roll. The kids came along and enjoyed the afternoon, along with mother, although she still does nt get it

Guess theres many more but too many to list

Love these kind of threads a bit of sentiment does you good now and then.Remember back in 1997 Easter Bank Holiday At the sorely missed Cleethorpes Winter Gardens.My wife Bev had only a week left till the Birth Of our only Daughter Jess.I didn't want to go to the night but Bev insisted i didn't miss one of my fave venues.So off i went and travelling down the M180 to Cleggy the incredible sight of the Halle Bop comet was in full view all the way.Full of stress and Worry about Bev i couldn't really get into the night until late on Roger Banks introduced a record i had never heard before.The tune was No One Could Love You More by Gladys Knight & The Pips.As the record started building i jumped onto the floor and started to dance. the track captured perfectly the feelings i had at the time and all i could think about was Bev back home.At the end of the record i said my farewells to mates and hit the road back home.The Comet was even brighter and lit the sky as i put my foot down Gladys playing over and over in my Head.Got home Bev looked and smiled "your back early"she said rubbing her Bump."Crap night " i replied just as an excuse.Three Days later Jess Arrived and changed our lives.One Month Later i had secured an original UK motown copy of No One Could Love You More,and whenever i hear that record it takes me back to that Halle Bop Night.Oh and just in case your thinking this over sentimental stuff ment he never went out again Two momths later Bev was giving me Daggers as i set off for the Keele all-nighter leaving her up to the neck in nappies.Dam ive spoilt the tale now.

Just to Wind up Another great Soul night experience came 15 years later this year at the Bridlington Weekender when Me and Bev were accompanied for the first time by my Daughter Jess,and to say i was proud when she danced at the side of me is the biggest understatement ever.

Yeah, Queens Hall.... what a place. I didn't do drugs, never have, never will but I understand that many people did and many are friends. Just my take on on it.Respect.

Always tried to get a cold pint of milk down me at Cleethorpes winter gardens all niters - used to think it was a healthy balance to the gear. This isn't a top all niter experience but I used to do it.

me and my mate hitching lifts from macclesfield to keele allnighter,it was a special one because dave evison was doing the allnighter live on signal radio,and we got a mention on the radio for hitching all the way there!

Edwin Starr backed by T.C.U. (Total concept Unlimited) @ the Blackpool Mecca Alll Dayer in 1976 ish. Best performance i ever saw him do, & the sounds played that day were

totally mind blowing. I think T.C.U. then became a top band under a different name, Rose Royce perhaps.?

Dayer would have to be St Ives where I heard the Pyramid for the first time. Never forget that.

Nighter would have to be either the 100 Club, the one where they played Stewart Ames when I came back in when Shifty was still there. Or the Middleton with the Willinghams upstairs, which was my first nighter with our lass.

Sam Dees n Jeff Perry live performances at my Uptown Down South promotions in Newbury - will never forget those nights.

The Nighter down the 100 Club when Ady first dropped the first batch of unissued RCA/Pied Piper material - unbelievable atmosphere.

Pretty much every nighter I did in the 7ts was awesome in my memory !!!.

The first time Ady asked me to DJ at the 100 Club....an absolute honour & a sublime experience, made all that much better by the fantastic nutters in attendance who always make spinning at the 100 Club so uniquie....

Oh & the Alldayer we went to in London years ago, that Kev Moore ran in Brixton (?) with pretty much the whole of the South Coast massive in convoy, hammering down the motorway together...tunes blastin & the banter flowing...Mr Abbott, Csordas, Molly, Jason & a host of others on fine form....the Detroit Pirates ah arrrggghhhh !!!....was part of what we now refer to as 'the lost weekend'....you really had to be there, but sticks in my mind as a wonderful mental day with a heap o soul & some fine friends who are all fantastic, but in serious need of help lol .

Its Strange how things stick in your mind.Lots of Nighters are hazey memories as time goes by but you can remember unusual events that stick in your mind.One such memory i have was at the Bretby nighter.I went to a few nighters during the mid 90s at Bretby but the one i remember most was in 96 at Chris Kings 40th Birthday nighter.On this particular night a large tent was attached to the main room which was full of record dealers.My fave record at the time was the belting track by Jean Wells--With My Love And What You Got--Calla,and i had been looking out for a copy.Eventually after looking through Pat Brady's sales table i was over the moon to find one and snapped it up.Pat's pitch was right next to to doors that lead you back to the main room so clutching on to my my Jean Wells i walked back through.As soon as i set foot onto the Floor i swear the D.J started to play the record i had just bought a few seconds earlier.Gobsmaked i just started to dance while still holding onto the Calla gem in my hand.

That same night a few live artists were performing.I think the first was Ivy Joe Hunter.Then came Edwin Starr.Just before Edwin came on i decided to make a quick visit to my car to put some records away safe.As i walked through to the exit i literally bumped into Edwin waiting to go on stage.He smiled and offered a handshake.I held on to his hand and left him totally bemused by blurting out the fact that we shared the same birthday."Thats great "he said ,then i made it worse by saying "i'm just going outside for a bit i've seen you loads of times anyway.

Yep thats right they were later to become Rolls Royce but this wa sthe original line-up of the band before they got signed up and changed name via Motown etc

Wigan '74 - my first nighter,Yvonne Baker,Ann Perry,Jeanette Williams,Tempo's...the tunes went on an on....musn't forget Jnr Walker live at Wigan as well...

After a break from soul,80-90,being took to the 100 club.First nighter in all that time,only knew about 10% of the tunes,but what a night.

Came away thinking,"i'm getting back into this",and also something that i've said to myself every weekend since - "You got a lot to learn youth"....

I'd love to see Sean again. Known him since the early 80's Last time i saw him was at Bretby. I was there for the Modern room but wandered in to the Northern room and there he was/S tripped to the waist stomping about like a loon. I walked up to him poked him and said in a menacing voice outside cnt i want a word with you. It looked like he was gonn fill me in there and then. People jumped out the way of him, then a glimmer of recognition as i hadn't seen him in anout 15yrs. He grabbed me and just ran me around the room with an aaargh you fcker where you been. Some good memories of Sean the mad cnt.

It's not big ,it's not clever and definitely not something to brag about

being a young un, 16 years old in 75, walking into an all dayer, might have been the palais, or matlock bath pavillion, cant remember, seeing a packed dance floor, there was a time- gene chandler, green door-wynder k frog, the rest i cant remember as i was so amazed by all the dancers, i think i went to hear the latest sounds (on cassestte from jack) but was amazed by the "oldies" and the enthusiasm, remember it was the first time i had heard them, dates may be wrong but i can still see it now, these days i only have to play gene chandler and i start sweating :yes:

Erm most of the people i know that ended up taking drugs was from dancing all night. I've met some of my greatest friends through shareing drug experiances.

Hi Rich,he did the casino with the same backing band,think it was probably a year earlier.They did all his classics with a heavy funk backing,betty wright the same year was another standout memory.

Great memory of coming back from burnley cats whiskers all dayer in Siz's vw beetle only one windscreen wiper working. Another about 6 of us going all the way to Yate all nighter we got in sold all the new soul times and then none of us like the place do we spent all night in John hilels car playing tapes which resulted in a flat battery lol as the car was a Citroen you couldn't bump start it.

Foot note - Legalise em, make em clean, put an instruction leaflet in the packaging and tax em! Sorry if i have offended anybody with my "One of the best experiences" but i did not realise it was only aimed at it being a musical experience, having said that without the chemicals i don't think any memorable experience i have had would be that memorable without it, i could be wrong for sure, i wouldn't know though as i have never done one without the other.

Pretty much them all !

Best laughs travelling down from scotland by car, van, train, plane, hitching,and once by boat !

The tunes everywhere up and down the country and all over europe since 1975 when I first heard this wonderful music.

Most of all the people from the kids at the YWCA/St Catherines youth club back then through to the Nighters of the present day the bestest part has been hanging out with cool people and listening to great tunes.

mine always has been, still is and probably always will be just having to dance to a tune you've never heard before because it just grabs one by the balls and propels one onto the floor, it's so good that you don't even know where the breaks are in the tune but that don't matter none. but..... on the down side.... it makes one sheepishly keep pestering the dee-jays about titles and artistes, specially at these rare do's when some dee-jays don't say a lot!
