I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO HYPE OVERDRIVE ABOUT THIS, YOU ALL KNOW HOW RARE THIS RECORD IS AND THE CHANCES OF FINDING ONE "IN THE WILD" NOWADAYS ARE VIRTUALLY NIL.  ONE WENT FOR $11,000 ON EBAY ON SUNDAY.  IF IT WAS MINT, THEN THIS COPY IS IT'S EQUAL.  IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND I DARE SAY IT'S NEVER SEEN A STYLUS.  APART FROM A COUPLE OF LIGHT, WHISPY LINES CAUSED BY THE PAPER OF THE SLEEVE, THIS IS AS IN GOOD AS A CONDITION AS WHEN IT CAME OFF THE PRESSES BACK IN THE 60's.

SO, IT'S GOING TO HAVE TO GO UP FOR OFFERS I'M AFRAID.  I'M NOT QUITE SURE HOW I'M GOING TO DO THIS YET, OBVIOUSLY THE PERSON WHO OFFERS THE MOST MONEY WILL GET IT, BUT I HAVEN'T SET A TIME LIMIT ON IT AS YET.

I GUESS ALL I WOULD SAY IS "BID WHAT YOU THINK IT'S WORTH TO YOU".  I WILL NOT IDENTIFY ANY BIDDERS, INCLUDING THE WINNER, AND I WILL NOT DISCLOSE HOW MUCH IT SELLS FOR IF THE WINNER DOES NOT WANT ME TO.

ANYWAY I'LL START THIS OFF AT £4000 AND WE'LL TAKE IT FROM THERE.  I WILL UPDATE BIDDERS WHEN OR IF THEY ARE OUTBID.

THE BID INCREMENT IS £100.

THE WINNER WOULD BE ADVISED TO COME AND PICK THIS UP FROM ME!

I WISH THIS WAS MINE, BUT IT'S ONLY A COMMISSION JOB SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME TO BEND THE RULES, I HAVE TO DO MY BEST FOR THE SELLER.

YOU CAN ALWAYS CONTACT ME AT pete.smith@freeuk.com OR PHONE ME 01902 326306

I'm impressed by the quality of the photo of the Bell Sound stamp

So am I considering the piece of crap camera I took it with, this is a camera that won't usually go into focus when taking a pic of a black record label!

Well when the clicks on 6 0 clock, whoever has the highest bid wins...can't think of any other way, am open to suggestions though

its got a mark broadhurst electronic ignition kit and a muggello on it, so it starts everytime and goes like a rocket !  :D

gotta ask was it recent find or has the seller had it for a long time?

wish I could bid on it :(

All I know is it came from an old collection, meaning someone who was collecting in the 60's and early 70's, probably thought it was a doo wop record and never played it!

Hey Jim, Depends how much you'd love to own it. People think nowt of spending 5 and a half grand on a little second hand car  ... or a kitchen.

I think I'd prefer the Del Larks! (no I'm not putting a bid in!).

Top bid is still £5500.  Two people with same bid.

How can  you have two people with same bid surely if you have a bid of 5500 and someone comes in wi another bid they have to bid more ..Confused . Com lol

:hatsoff2: HI ALL..... To think!? Mick Smith played & dedicated this to me at KEELE many moons ago, & offered it to me £800, and I turned him down. one of the best rare soul records of all time, if you disagree? cough & get off  DAVE K

Not as confused as I am.  I can't tell people what to bid, they just make the offer.  (Person one asked to keep his bid going to 5500, person to came in with a straight bid of 5500).

The bid increment is £100 anyway, so if someone came in at 2 seconds to 6 and said 5520, it wouldn't count.

I don't mean to tell you how to do this, but this is how I would do it:

Yes you can tell people what to bid and you should in this kind of situation.

First bidder comes in with £5500.

Second bidder comes in with a bid of £5500.

You contact the second bidder and tell them that there already is a bid of £5500 on the record and that they need to increase their bid if they want to have a chance of purchasing the record. Otherwise they're out.

Then you tell the other bidders (if there are any) that a new bid has registered so that they know that they need to up their bids in case they still want to be in the running.

Sounds like the right way to do it.

I will of course take the advice on board, though I'm pretty sure they will both see this topic and can easily contact me.

Listen I don't mean to be rude but it's been suggested to me by a bidder that people who have no intention of bidding on the item should, erm, mind their own business.  Just saying like.

Who's to say the people who've commented haven't had a bid, or aren't going to bid? It's not like you're giving names out is it. Some people should mind their own business!

Just saying...

There doesn't seem much wrong with this thread Pete. The bidders will bid, others will watch. Its one of the most important auctions for a long time for me,its going to attract attention.

Pete......you don,t need to take any advice.....you have a near mint, shiney shagable copy of one of the best records ever made for sale....it,s a case of supply and great demand..............AND THEY ALL WANT IT!!!  :D

Think it's shite myself

just saying  .

No doubt you are fully entitled to your opinion but seriously...................

Kev. Your so right. I.m interested in this thread, find it fascinating but I could never justify paying these sort of prices for records. £400 was my limit on vinyl. Steve

So the £200.00. i paid for mine seems a bargin!!!!!

For £200 I'll teach you how to spell  :D

Only a bargain if you sell it on which I doubt you will. So you are £200 out of pocket but compensated with a gem of a record??

Ian thats a quality reply mate!!

But here is a thought and always wondered if it was a dooable way to bid (if you was bidding - which i am not)

Contact the seller and just say WHATEVER the amount goes to put me down for the next increment of bid - a guarantee of winning the auction.

Thats a very very sensible way to go.

Yes a pound more than the highest bidder till your max is reached. If u get outbid at the end then its not throigh bidding low

In this case we're talking about £100 increments though.  I wouldn't accept a £99 one.  Rules is rules.

Isn't that a "TOPPING BID".....and supposing 2, 5, 9 or 20 people did that? Who wins it??

Only about 9 hours to go......
