Compiled by Dean Rudland its a stunning collection of real Soul music; all tempos for all tastes!

 Essential listening.

 

Great effort from all involved.

I'd just like to thank Sean for doing such a fantastic job in talking this up.

I'm really pleased with the music that we have on this volume. However I got so caught up in the process of putting it together that I forgot to do any promotion.

Fortunately Ady sent Sean a copy and he's done a far better job than I would have anyway!

A couple of things worth noting

1/ the unknown vocalist sounds familiar, but I couldn't match it with anyone. Love to know if anyone recognises him.

2/ I failed to notice that the Jacksonians is a cover of the Marvin and Tammy classic.

Very nice indeed.

 

I'll be buying one for sure.

The Billy Cee track has been released on a GSF single, sounds like a different mix though and doesn't credit the Freedom Express, Great track any way single or the CD version.

Yep the Billy Cee is a different version of the same song, sounds slightly earlier to me. The Tommy Raye is indeed issued on XL and there's a scan of it in the booklet. 20 of the 24 tracks were previously unissued, four are merely obscure. Fab CD.

I just went to play mine, and it seems to have gone missing.

Puzzling!

For my money one of the best things to come out of this label is the unissued Willie Bollinger track, 'Shake Shake Shake', it's hidden away on the Ace Memphis 60 compilation, great mod sound. I have it on Carver, but is seems it would have been better on one of the Mod Jazz or similar comps.  Can be still purchased here:

Here is a huge bunch of unknown (or hardly known) Top Drawer real Soul Music - brought out of the cold and into the light for our listening pleasure by Ace Kent.

 

A CD that EVERYONE who calls themself a Soul fan must own!
