Well can't belive this one, sure most of you remeber the Whitby thread from a few weeks ago

In amongst it all a member posted up a post from a soul fan who had been at Whitby.

Had word today that the person who had wrote the post Margaret H has just been sent by registered mail a letter from Kev Roberts

been told that the registered letters purpose was to inform her that he is banning her for life from all his events s and is going to circulate her name to other promoters, along with legal threats if she posts similar in future

as the post was posted on here, have to say that to read that a soul fan has had such action taken against them by a promoter is disturbing, and as it concerns such a subject as that ticket fiasco at Whitby, then do have to wonder just why such strong action is being taken against someone posting their views on here

Kev I have just been on the soul-source web-site and read the e-mails regarding Whitby. Unfortunately, the administrator has closed the site to any new replies so I am taking this opportunity to warn you of the information that I intend to distribute among the hundreds of "misinformed" people. I had a very polite conversation with you on Sunday afternoon giving you the chance to explain why the ticket situation arose. I was totally horrified to hear you tell me that all the people who weren't allowed in on Saturday night, had knowingly, bought counterfeit tickets at £10 each and that's why they weren't allowed in. As I then informed you, I was one of those people who was refused entry. Let me remind you that I, along with the many genuine Northern Soul fans of many years, had bought our tickets months ago costing us £25 each. Where did you get that informationt from? If you'd actually had the courage to come upstairs to face us, then you would have seen many very familiar faces. Another lie that surfaced was that you had left the building on Saturday night and that is why Snowy came up to try and calm the situation. This is all fact - I was there. I was told on Saturday morning by a very dependable source that 2000 tickets had been sold. The poor guy you have all chosen as a scapegoat actually only sold 30 tickets. As for the so-called allocated 1500 wristbands, there was another full box waiting to be used by yourselves. Can you tell me what colour wrist bands were used for New York? As Friday night was well over the maximum capacity allowed for the venue, there were complaints and the authorities were informed and that's why there was a clamp down on Saturday night. Realising your greediness couldn't be explained away, I wouldn't be surprised if you planted that poor chap outside - your scapegoat! On Saturday night, when the police eventually arrived, we were told by them at around midnight that they were going to close the event. You, as promoter, then panicked and started asking people to leave - how desparate was that! Have you refunded their money yet? After waiting for over 2 hours, we were then told that 105 people could go downstairs. By this time and after all the emotional trauma we had been through, we were certainly not in the mood to be dancing. We waited for some compensation and an apology - guess what - we got neither! You didn't even have the decency to say SORRY - you just defended yourselves and put the blame on someone else!!! So, a message to all the people who can't understand what all the fuss is about, put yourselves in our shoes. We had looked forward to this event all year, paid our money, travelled miles and got stabbed in the back in return. One more point - I hope no-one buys their tickets yet for next year's event because when the police and council in Whitby have had their say on the situation, there probably won't be an event. Crazy thing is though, he doesn't know what Mags looks like. She could walk into any of his events and he wouldn't know!

Very funny but does this mean Mag's is also a bit err chunky. Why hasnt she been ridiculed for going to his night in the first place by the Soul Police??????

Ive never knowingly bought or attended KRL stuff. It wont make much difference tho, most who attend his events probably aint on here, aint interested in the politics and wouldnt attend many other do's as they'd feel it a little daunting attending venues where everyone dresses correctly, knows all the tunes, shuffles real cool and dont welcome "outsiders" pigeon holeing them as sad returnees or young upstarts who know nowt.

As I see it he caters for the less serious, either other promoters dont want them or have been unable to attract them.

Just like the rumours about djs playing non originals, we were told "the sh*ts gonna hit the fan" "names were gonna be named" ..as usual nothing happened and it all quitened down either it was true or someone was telling porkies in first place.

As for askin the dj's to stop djn, whose gonna compensate them, their not guilty.

As said am not one of his fans, he's made yet another unsouly error but its not the first time is it.

At the end of the day.... Kev Roberts only gets away with what we (as in 'the soul scene') let him get away with.

If... after all this... he gets to carry on as before... ripping people off... bullying... threatening etc.... then shame on us.... ALL OF US!!

It's about time we all stopped sitting on the fence with this.... and let him know that it's not ok to treat people the way he does.

BUT.... this needs to be done in significant enough numbers to hit him the only place it will hurt... HIS POCKET.

So what are the chances of that happening?

..... i know what i think... and this is one time i'm praying that i'm proved wrong.

well I am praying with you on this one too JJ, we have a unity in the music we listen to, we have a unity on the dance floor, now lets as soul people have a unity on this one. Lets have a "unity" weekender at Whitby at a time and venue of our own, I only went once to the pavillion, and never again, and the highlight and the best part of the weekend for me was the soul night across the road at that big pub on the corner (forgotten its name) It was amazing.

I hold my hands up, I recieved two vip tickets from him when he was offering them for his 50th and his partners 40th on SS

I must admit that I am one of those "beer towel brigade" girls but DO NOT attend his venues for many of the reasons already stated in this post and past posts, thats not what this scene is about, and bullying and intimidating other kindred souls that have a love of soul music is dispicable.

His principles lay truly in the heart of his back pocket, let him have his venues, may they be filled with handbaggers, whom kick off, at the length of the bar queue/ the way they are herded into venues like teenagers/ asked to leave cause someone fcuked up big style.... bet they won't accept it like we have done for so long.

Little did u know Kev Roberts lost everything in the early 90's down to soul venu's all he had was the shirt on his back never keep a good man down so credit is due i'm not to sure on the towel brigade i'm up and down the country to all-nighters there's only 1 person I see with a towel round his waist and that's black carl and he's no div. Who exactly was it that said it was nearly sold out? Wouldn't be KR by any chance?

KR's partner, Mr Snow, told me last week that they'd had 300 tickets returned for Whitby. So how could next year, after all that's happened this year, be a sell out?

Anyway, I've contacted my crystal ball and it tells me that there's something bigger and better coming up. So my advice is (and no-one has to take it but don't say I didn't tell you so), don't buy in haste, watch this space!
