It seems to be a trend at the moment to see a lot of dancers wearing trainers.Mostly its the younger guys.It puzzles me surely they are too grippy to dance easily in or are there particular brands that have smoother soles.Can anyone who uses trainers comment on why they prefere Trainers and how they perform on untalced floors.

Anyone remember Springers, they were really soft leather with soft leather soles that wore out very quickly.

Attended one of my fave nights last night and decided to give my Adidas Neos a try for the first time. They were fine to dance in although it takes some getting used to being flat with no heel as such.The venue has a great floor which is talc friendly and i seem to think the trainers would have been too grippy without a bit of talc.

Should see my mate Kerso's collection (used to be on the door at Allenton Shotts nighters) Above 250 pairs now.

Bloody hell, and we moan about the amount our women spend on shoes!

They make my 32 year old docs look young. I wore them to work the other day and our 31 year old warehouse guy early fainted when he realised they were older than him!

 many  of the mentioned are oldskool addidas trainers,, samba, munchen, gazelle ect use vinyl or polyurethane soles. And are pretty shite in terms of grip. Compare them to rubber soled vans for instance that are renowned for grip.

Cosmos were the best shoes I ever had for dancing ! They looked good too, mine were ox blood , I wish I could get a pair now !!

Would you wear plimsolls to dance in at an Allniter - probably not? Still not sure why dancers feel the need to wear sports footwear to dance in when there are enough smart shoes on the market that have the same attributes. Whatever way a dancer chooses to move on the floor, there is a leather/rubber/vinyl sole that is fit for purpose and tones in well with the clothing.  Once upon a time, you couldn’t get in a club wearing training shoes (or jeans or without a tie) - now it seems anything goes.

Anything Goes, Any Thing Goes, Yer could't beat a GUD PAIR OF WELLIES Fer back in't day at WIGAN when you were down in't bogs and Somebody were playing Afternoon Of The Rhino off of his Cassette Player In't Cubical Whilst avin a crap! Catchin' the momment where you can so to speak Eh!......... Happy Days  🤣

Still can't get into some clubs with jeans and trainers on, but frankly these are places I would rather not be 😉

Superb. Just as I remember. Best shoes ever for dancing in.

In my 'Casual' phrase in the 80's I took to Blue suede  Adidas Gazelle's , looked tops but never made to last and stained easy, and never any good for dancing. I was buying Loake's loafers for my Soul nights for years partly out of support for the UK shoe economy . Sadly I have to admit to  buying Bass Weejun Penny loafers which beat Loakes, and most other footwear for comfort, dancing , longevity , value for money and look. IMO.

Tried it and doesn’t work at all for me . As a shuffler I can’t get trainers to do that job ..

The only way to float and shuffle is good old leather . So it’s always been a nice pair of ox blood Comos or Brogues for me and always will . 

Shuffling on one foot in trainers is a recipe for a fall .

The're  buffalo, not penny though 

My shoes have a hole in the bottom, and laces that took me places, won't show no pity on me........but if they won't slide or shuffle, they go straight back in the duffel 🙃

 

Trainers are for.........Training, got my first pair in 1982, wore pumps 'til then for doing stuff you need pumps for.

 

Consequently, can only dance in slippy leather soles.

 

Now I'm a fossil, I've ditched the big heavy jobbies and the thinner and the lighter the shoes, the longer I can keep going.

 

Mates who still do floor work put their addidas on if the venue's talced up to avoid coming a cropper.

 

Four years old and four pages on shoes.......must mean something 😁...........we all need to get out more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Partner dances Barefoot ,has done since the Wheel{Stone Floors} Casino {Sprung Maplewood} Queens Hall {Duckboards,OOh the splinters} Spain ,Portugal{Ceramic Tiles & Sand } Any more Sandy Shaws ,Zola Budds, ? Try it ,saves a fortune on Trainers !

Can't get better value for money than the pair I found in the sale at TK MAXX £12, haven't worn them yet but will be back dancing soon, looking forward to trying them out after your comment, hope they are a good replacement for my current brogues which will now be used for general wear unless the Weejans don't match up.

I know this is not a direct answer to your question Patto but it is relevant in my opinion. Given that most venues have banned talc on the dance floor due to the culture where there's a blame there's a claim crew. How can anyone dance in trainers as surely they have and been designed soles to stick to the floor! You only have to look at the scenes top dancers both then and now and you'll see non of these wear trainers.I used to try when I was in my teens but in the end struggled with the twisting in my ancles and not being able to shuffle on the dance floor.

Apart from that there is the culture of a Soulies wearing sallatio shoes, brogues and loafers.Do we want to let our standards go?.

I've been advised that Toms might be good footwear for modern jive dancing (ceroc).

However, the sole seems to vary...

From mixed-rubber outsole and rope etc.

i don't know which are best?

When I worked in the Training Department at Cape Hill in Birmingham we had two team members called Jean.  I used to think it would be impossible to get in anywhere on Broad Street on a team night out if they all said "No Jeans and No Trainers.  😉
