High Frequency - Summertime (Nia)

Recommended Posts

I'd be surprised if it was played at the Casino. Possible for Searling but then I get the venues mixed up and might be thinking of his sets at Rotherham. I am sure Mark Freeman from Nuneaton would know since he tried to amass every tune ever played there.

And still trying steve lol

i havent cross referenced it yet as a wigan sound (ie a tape with it on - but u never know !)

had the 7" for a while as i love the tune wherever its origins..

Not so sure though Martin.

I know the others were at Clifton before me but I doubt they would have played this particular record any sooner, as I think we all got them from the same source (Arthur) around the same time.

I certainly remember hammering it at the KGB and Windmill while it was still very hot and then at Clifton, Cleggy, Bradford etc... soon after

It's an interesting point though. The truth is (and I'm not sure it can be said nowadays) quite a few of us would be playing many of the same sounds at the same time.

Guess that's how they came to be so massive!

And even more interesting to see how there seems to be a 'revived' interest in records from this era, right now.

Sean

Richard certainly didn't play this at CH Sean. It was definitely played before you came on board mid 82. And it certainly wasn't on my playlist at Cleggy although I played it at CH earlier.

I can't remember any Cleggy playlists at the time including it but recall it being reviewed or at least listed in Blackbeat.

Hi Steve, who woke you up? :D

Don't disagree at all.

What I said was I played it regularly at (probably every) Clifton Hall, KGB, Cleethorpes after buying it from Arthur. And (as I said) I would have thought a couple of us had it there.

I also said it was a massive record in South Yorkshire at the time" which is absolutely the case.

I played it at KGB and Windmill etc. maybe before I even worked at Clifton (having bought it from Arthur... at the same time as others did!) but I don't think I ever missed a night at Clifton where I didnt play it.

The guy asked for some history on the record and I gave him some of what I could recall.

Think its probably right that Richard didnt play it at CH (much or even at all)   :g:  was only half sure whether he did or not. What I was doing was disputing it being played in Mr M's as the thread starter had been informed.

Who else played it at Clifton, I honestly can't recall (must have been several - the record was huge) but it was certainly still played for a good couple of years afterwards, including by me (at Cleggy, in particular and Bradford etc.) and others - Darren, Adam, etc. and Dave Thorley, Robin etc. at Stafford.

But before all of that, it was an Arthur / Snaith record regardless of who, where, or when thereafter  :D - And seems to be indemand again!

By the way, speaking of Clifton Hall.... where was you t'other week (at the reunion)?

You missed a great night.

Tons of old faces.

And very fond memories.

Are you doing the next un?

Guest Johnny One Trout

Richard was playing things like Leon Bryant "Mighty body hotsy totsy" (Delite) at the Casino and that's pretty in yer face too...

Maybe but surely not in M's.....

Think we can conclude this with:

1. Arthur's sound

2.Not played in Mr M's or in the Casino.

BTW on these forgotten early modern sounds can we add "Your love keeps me dancing" Ike Strong (Richards old Lee Moore & The Resourceful Ones c/up), and Butches "funky...music" as opposed to "disco...music" 7" version by True Image which very rare on 7.

Dave would have played this at the same time as you would he not?  Certainly before the demise of Clifton Hall.

I'd have said the record was played for 2+ years Chalks.

Stafford started after Clifton started but I think there was some 'crossover'.

Has anyone got the actual dates as to when the nighters of the early 80's actually started and ended?

Its always a grey area.

Yes, I have fo the popular ones.

most of the Stafford DJ's were DJing other well known places before Stafford, mainly Wigan and Yate, same for some of the Clifton Hall DJ's who played all over the country.  Sounds like quite a few had this record and played it all over the place when Arthur got his spares.

Yes agree. It was huge at the time. Arthur and Sam were great resources and never had a problem distributing some of the nice things they found on US trips (CoCo & Ben, Johnny Scott, etc.).

Would like to see that venue / dates list mate.

I think I have it that Clifton Hall started near the end of 1980 (October? - is that correct?) from memory, but have no idea of the date of the last one.

Havent got a clue as to when Cleggy Winter Gardens kicked off again or ended.

Just know we seemed to get through a mountain of records between us!

The list needs some tidying but I will be getting round to it.  The dates for Cleethorpes return is in one of the topics I started, Clifton Hall I think, I posted the echoes advert. Clifton Hall finished 1984 off top of me head.  Stafford started April 82 until February 86.

Hadn't heard this before - do like it but doesn't kick arse for me the same way HF does - anyone else?

Got a real soft spot for Haistons version.Sold it back in the 80s only to buy another back quite a few years later.

Great singer and was only 34 when he died.

  • 4 weeks later...

Funny thing is Sean I now have the time to do it properly, but to be honest can't be dealing with all the dickheads that have sprung up in recent times   :P  :D

Do you mean the type who think that Barbara Carr ' Don't knock love'  (Chess) is a new discovery ?!?  The guy must have been frozen in an ice block for decades, like Capt. America (and the issue 2120 is the 2nd, orig on 1985).

Yep the net is awash with bad information…..so funny, but in a way it isn't. I used to think the truth will out, but now I am not sure it will. Barbara Carr? Never heard of her…is she an unknown artist waiting to be discovered by some DJ?
