I love tunes like Sweets - "something about my baby" or Big Maybelle's "it's raining."

I'm sure people out there have tons of other great suggestions. I am looking to blow up my want list!

thanks!

What a lovely record, and with Your Love Is Everything on the other side I think it's one of the best records ever issued, makes me feel really emotional.

Hi Geoff, to be honest I've only ever seen it on album but no doubt someone on here will be able to confirm better than me x

Takes a few plays to appreciate but worth the effort. Arranged by Horace Ott so got to be good.

Ruby and the Romantics already had 2 great tracks mentioned so here's a third

Only Heaven Knows on ABC

They also did a version of Hurting Each Other on A&M but not as good as the Ruth Lewis on RCA already posted.

hi just bought brenda holloway-every little bit hurts today, reyt tune  sithi.

I feel a wants list coming on...So add to add to the sublime agony of the thread I give you:

Lorraine Ellison 'Please don't Teach Me To Love You'

Dee Dee Warwick 'When I Haven't Got Anything Better to Do'

-well lots of Dee Dee really

Barbara Lewis 'Hello Stranger'

and lots of others if I go upstairs and look but the log mans coming and I've got to handball a ton of firewood in the rain so it'll have to wait.

I love Tambi Garrett, but Lulu's version takes some beating

Likewise Dusty's version of the following holds the ace for me.

You Need Me To Love You - Billie Dearborn 1967

this is a bit quicker tempo, but has the full-bore, heavy duty female vocal performance i associate with this genre.

Betty Everett - In your arms (ABC)

Some great stuff on this thread BTW - several now on my wants list

I've just read that Lesley Gore has died. She did this one, a great version of the song  recorded by the Chiffons.

This tune is more uptempo but I think it may appeal to some by listening to the others links on here?  :) x

martha reeves-he doesnt love her anymore
dirt cheap and beautiful

Yes,you can end the thread now Jim. :)

I had one of these for sale yesterday and nobody bought it.  Unbelievable.  I've never heard such a heartbreaking performance such as Big Maybelle's on Oh Lord etc, especially right near the end where it has a chord change and she almost cries asshe sings.  An amazing record.

Apologies for not reading through the thread, the youtube clips are playing up a bit but I'm going to add to that, I apologise if someone else has posted this but MY GOD this is incredible...and only ten quid
