A new year and a new photo thread to keep us entertained through the months ahead.

My first addition is something suitably seasonal - a wintery scene taken in the Amsterdam woods.

DSC_1212-web.jpg.403007fb2d1c4c9deefe4ade26a6e734.jpg

All contributions very much welcomed, and if the photos we've seen in previous years is anything to go by, we've a lot to look forward to.

Enjoy!

Had to share this off my news feed.  Western cape in South Africa has had some late spring snow. Amazing to see Giraffes in their natural environment stood on snow.

Immediately behind and running parallel to this big stone wall was an old single track railway line that serviced some old goods yards. In the middle of the picture you can just see the top of the old metal footbridge which crossed over the railway line.

A few hundred yards away to the left of the picture was the old Bradford Park Avenue Football Club ground (still in use at the time), a club I used to support as a young teenager due to living nearby.

Picture of the overgrown Kop End terracing at Bradford Park Avenue's old ground taken by me 07.09.18.

Also the bricked-in recesses where the turnstiles had previously been installed. Note the five shilling entrance price painted on the wall assumed to be dated from early 1970. Probably from the final ever Football League Division Four match against Scunthorpe United at the old Horton Park Avenue ground on Saturday 4th April 1970 (attendance 2,563). A young Kevin Keegan helped Scunthorpe to a resounding 5-0 win.

A few months later the club was voted out of the football league.

Derek, after reading the poem my youngest daughter Melissa searched on line and found this article, are the other poems in your neck of the woods ?  https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/jul/08/bush-sings-new-praises-to-literary-heroin

By the way,  your dog has the perfect pose.

Ste.

Please say thank you to your youngest daughter for that link to The Guardian article - very interesting reading indeed.

It appears the other 3 poems - along with the Kate Bush one as featured in my photo - are all situated somewhere in between Haworth and Thornton which are only 5 miles or so apart.

For the last 5 years or so every year me and the dog take a sponsored 5 mile walk (amusingly called 'Bark In The Park') around the Temple Newsam Estate in Leeds to raise money for St Gemma's Hospice. To capture the occasion and for a nominal fee they have a photographer on hand at the finishing line ready to take pictures of your favourite hound.

A night in the Bay of Biscay, lord god never again! The two calm ones of These were taken at dusk when all seemed calm! It dident roll like that through the night, the next two with ship in distance were bright and early this morning, I think it’s the European Atlantic before we enter the channel...??

Lost count of the number of times I've crossed the Bay of Biscay, but can probably count the good crossings on one hand.

My poor wife Liza, she had a terrible time, I bought the band, we drank flat coke but nothing worked... she looked green this morning 😞

My god Steve, you could a Camino with that bag! I guess it’s all about your lenses,..

Ha ha. Mal it's only got 3 lenses in it plus 1 camera and a few small accessories.  Plus there's room for clothing, which is a first for any  camera bag. The beauty of it is that the camera compartment lifts out and I'm left with a fantastic hiking bag suitable for proper hiking trips. Seriously  expensive  but its got everything

Steve

The area of the bag above the Gitzo label unfolds and it's large enough for gortex jacket,  pants and a down jacket.

Thats where the old boiler was Steve. Its just insulating material which is blocking a fair size hole in the wall which was left when the boiler was ripped out.

That's a nice gift from Lou Steve. Well deserved too, given the commitment you've put in to hone your photography skills. A professional such as yourself needs top gear like that. Keep on getting those fab photo's for us to enjoy.

Thanks Steve

I know he's going to change my life, and I will change his. I'm really excited. I have the option to bring him to work with me and I've just taken delivery of a large stair gate to be fitted to my office door.
