I suppose from the northern soul point of view I couldn’t care less, cos the scene is a nostalgic scene based on music already there anyway,no matter what clever tricks and marketing ploys arise, most people in the scene are always gonna want the Salvador’s,tomangoes etc…newly made and produced music that sounds similar just won’t find a way in!

However…the music is definitely clever, and as stand alone music it’s ok,and progression isnt always for the better, but progression never the less

Also it cant be difficult to produce, simply by the sheer numbers the chap is banging out! New music as a whole doesnt sell well these days anyway,so this stuff has no chance! I personally wouldn’t sit there listening to it or buying it!

I posted on one of his youtube records a couple of months back pointing out that all this stuff was AI produced.

They took my comment down pretty quickly.

And, anyway, most people couldn't care less so I was probably wasting my time .

Doesn't need AI to prompt those feelings , humans do a fine job too.

I don't believe half of it now , and haven't done for years ... no

And some of the most outrageous bullsh*t I've ever heard has been at 3am at all-niters ... lol

They need to add a few crackles, pops and jumps to make them more authentic.

A bowl of Rice Krispies added to the mix might be suffice x

Believe me they are just testing the water at the moment, they will add whatever defect you require, rice crispies, cue burn, off centre, no problem sir

The quality of the product will become much better, it will be impossible to distinguish between a genuine new discovery and that which is A I generated.

The saving grace could be , in the tech world mass availabilty is key to sucess, whereas, exclusivity is an integral component of the soul scene.

The easy way to tell will still be the physical item the "discovery" was made from , whether that be a 45 , acetate or master tape.

None of these have been succesfully replicated/counterfeited to a standard to fool close scrutiny yet , so unless some magical AI robot suddenly appears to do the authentication then there'll be no worries on that score.

And even if there were no bugger would believe its findings ... rolleyes

That's not to say that the youngsters down in the west country won't embrace these with open arms.

Four Vandals - fooled a few people for a while

Yes, because these “few people” were either half deaf or just plain dumb. It was so obvious that Four Vandals was a new production.

I’m Sorry but anybody who fell for that four vandals tune has definitely not got an ear for music, I’m sure even A1 can come up with a better effort than that, I’m not condoning it, I prefer the real thing but you can’t raise singers and musicians from the dead, so let’s see how things develop.

AI is a novelty,it cant think for itself,it can only use what it has be given and reproduce a version of!

AI itself is sure no novelty. But I believe that AI generated Northern Soul is one. People will soon lose interest in it.

Easy in hindsight, but when you could only get at nighters once or twice a month and perhaps on searling's radio show perhaps not so obvious

Hi Geeselad

It wasn’t hindsight with me , the whole production sounded pretentious and phoney, I knew it didn’t come from the 1960,s, just a lot of things lacking, I was born in 1951 always loved music so wasn’t fooled at all with that tune, not boasting just stating what was obvious to me that it did not come from that time because I was alive in that time,

Cheers ML

Already said here but, it remains that the Four Vandals involved real musicians and real singer. Just an attempt to duplicate the sound of the 60's and fool everyone into thinking it was actually a previously undiscovered tune, in the event djs got duped as well..a particular confrontation at the Kings Hall Stoke springs to mind when the truth got out😲🤣 though it wasn't funny in that moment.

AI with regards music, is 100% invention, the human being still has to teach it first

Everyone seems to be missing the point on this.

Whether the Four Vandals was, a real record, singer, (Steve Bernstein) or real musicians were used is not the issue.

Whether people liked, disliked or knew all along that it was not legit is also of no consequence, I was not my intention to re open this well worn topic

I used the FVs as an example of how the scene was and, can be manipulated. As pointed by Geeselad, Richard Searling played this on his Sunday radio show additionally a well known Dj parted with a large sum of cash to own the record. The fact that people were mis led is undeniable.

The AIGs being posted at the moment are pretty crude, although some are some better than others.

They will inevitibly get much, much better, in the hands of a skilled sound engineer, and introduction of orchestral backing etc they will be indistinguishable from the real thing.

Cut to vinyl, and placed into a box at a US record fair (as an example) in very similar to the way that the FVs was fed into the scene, hey presto, Sallys your uncle & Bobs your Aunt. If you tell me I've got that the wrong way round see the AIG video, its the one after the dog flying a plane !

Impossible ?, they won't fool me ? I'd like to think that I'm in that camp, but, If Elton John and Paul Mcartney think AI might be problamatic for the wider music scene, then I'll air on the side of caution.

I think you are quite right. In the near future if you play someone on this forum ten records they didn't know in random order - five being AI and five being "genuine" - I bet few of us will be able to distinguish which are which.

And that's us.

Your average music fan most definitely won't get it right. Nor will they care.
