I always felt that Stax had the logo dead right (I could always 'snap' if I couldn't stomp!).

Herb Ward - Strange Change surely the ultimate fingersnapper, followed closely by Kenny Gamble The Jokes On You although an equal amount of people seem to hate that as much as love it for some reason!

Two great examples can be found on Freddie Hughes' Wand lp. Tonight I'm Gonna See My Baby and the great solo version of We've Got To Keep On are right up there in the fingersnapper stakes. Effortless cool topped of with Freddie's peerless voice.

A couple of tremendous femme examples are Mavis Staples It Makes Me Wanna Cry from her Only For The Lonely set on Volt and Delilah Moore's immortal It Takes Love on Middle Earth, which for me epitomises this particular sound. It always sounds sharp as a tack and as fresh as paint.

Another fave 'cool' fingersnapper is The Volumes - Ain't gonna give you up (there's loads and loads still not mentioned yet tho!)

Incidentally, this type of sound, whether it be mid 60's to late 70's seems to have the ability to be played at many different types of venue too!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree Steve, you're just as likely to hear a quality 'Fingersnapper' (i.e. Bobby Patterson) at an 'upfront' venue such the Bass Museum as you are at an oldies gig!

Never neen a really big fan of the 'Northern' stomper and always looked out for records more in this groove.

I remember buying Sebastian Williams on Ovide from your stall at Essence about 10 years ago. Folk were raving about 'Get Your Point Over' but you suggested I flipped over the other side with "Don't Care What Mama Said'... a delicious midtempo snapper!

That's why I started the thread. I just might be missing something!

In sure there was a Soul Supply LP called fingersnappers, or something similar, i have it buried in a box upstairs somewhere, will have to try and dig it out later in the week.
