Was Your Coach Ever Turned Over By The Squad

Recommended Posts

Guest bazabod_downunder

Was thinking back last night to the times our coach from york to wigan was turned over by the drug squad, sticky label with a number on it on your back n the same number on the seat where you were sat n then all stood at the side of the m62 never saw any arrests though did you?

Abso...farking...lutely...we had a girl who used to come on some of our coaches to nighters, her name was Nicky Dewey..her Dad was in 'da squad'...so invaribly everytime his daughter was on one of our coaches we'd get pulled, but what the silly, daft arsed twats didn't know it worked both ways, we'd knew we'd get pulled & subsequently we'd pick up the laden compadres on route.

Mind you I got stripped serch twice in one day once, once in Worcester then about 5 hours later in Redditch...ohhhh happy days.

We used to go in a mini van with an old guy called Harry, he actually looked like squad! We got pulled waiting to leave Grantham....was done deliberately, so that you would miss the nighter! When we got released the coppers had emptied the stations bins into our van! Paper, sweet wrappers, fruit peel, fag ends etc! Ended up at Wakefield UNITY that night.

Best one ever for me was not on the coach but on manchester station, i used to use my nighter bag for work we had a boiler for tea at work so i used to take tea bags, milk, a jar of sugar n a mug. forgot to take the jar of sugar out of my bag before i went to the nighter, so when we got pulled at manchester, the squads eyes nearly popped out of there heads, in a holding cell n strip searched for me :wicked::ohmy:

Cleethorpes bus used to be the best on Harry! Every time, the same place, two cars across the road and they'd get on and take you into a school along the road and search us all. Stupid really, we all used to neck the stuff when we passed a house with big stone lions outside. Five minutes later, there was the squad, never found nothing!

I remember one time tho' they didn't appear as normal. Pulled up at the pier and there they were. York squad as well. We got off and one lad (Naming no names) threw an envelope with some gear in under the bus. The squad sees this and picks it up. "This yours?" says the squad. "No, never seen it before" say the lad. "Then why is your name and address on the envelope"! :wicked:

Remember the fashion for a leather thong round your neck with a black wooden fist on?

Just to wind up the squad I remember Ian wearing one with a big 'black and white' cap made out of wood, instead!

I remember 'Uncle Maurice' very well, including the time he went into the Casino to drag Ian out at gone 8 o'clock 'cos Mo had to be back in York! Also the horrendous smell of his feet in the morning after he had slept in the bus! It was his brother, Charlie, who looked after the gear, he was a bit of a rogue!

Here is Mo, and a few of us of to Cleethorpes.

Right to left as you look at it

Daisy, Elaine Nash, Me, Ronnie P, Stan, some girls from Scarbro' I think, who I can't remember, and Taffy crouched down. Mo leaning proudly on the door of the Transit!

(Nashie used to work in the Centre Bar, and 'lived in' above it. I used to creep up there after closing time quite regularly! )

Not so much a coach story, but was walking down the side of the dancefloor in the main hall at wigan when something hit me on my shoulder, looked down n it was a bag of blue capsules, i didn`t know what they were in those days, one of the lads i was with promptly took them off me n returned later with cash, so it was back to the record bar for me, found out later some poor lad had been busted on the balcony and had just thrown what he had over

Mentioned this on the previous "worst journey to wigan" thread.

Early 70's - we took 'full' a Coach of about 40 guys from the Turf Tavern in Rotherham.

Before we got on the coach the place got raided and about a dozen got lifted... the remaining 28 got on the coach to leave... but before we pulled out the DS were all over the coach and pulled off another 8 or 10.....

...when we got to Birch Services they were waiting for us.... a virtual strip search up against the wall and lifted another half dozen.

The remaining dozen carried on to the Casino... eventually arriving around 2:30 am.

When we got there... the squad were waiting, entered the Coach and mopped up the rest of the naughty lads.

Me and my mate (and no more than another 2 or 3) eventually got in after 3:00am.

It was always a nightmare one way or another.

As opposed to those fantasy ones you used to indulge in , Sean ? :D ........

It would be obvious that the DS would not pull you ( steady ) , my dear friend .......

They would have taken one look at that angelic - and one time alter boy - face , knowing that you were a good boy , totally devoid of any corruption ......

Yeh but, what I failed to mention, Malc, is that when searching my bag, they found my then girlfriends spare skirt in it  (Her bag wasn't big enough for it ok :D ) and a Wombles Tape that she'd taped all the 'top sounds of the day' over!

So this smart arse DS told everyone that I used to sneak off into the toilets, change into me skirt and dance to me Wombles tape!

Didn't get pulled on a coach but me and a few other lads (can't remember who) were hanging around the public WC's (as you do) at Peterborough bus station waiting for the coach to Wigan (I was supposed to be meeting up with Spike, Andy Rix et al) and got pulled by a couple of plain clothes and we were all frog marched (& I mean frog marched, one hand on head the other on our holdalls) off to the nick. One of the guys made a break for it but was soon caught and he didn't even have any gear! (plonker). Out of about 1/2 dozen only one of us had some gear and it was f**k all to write home about (personal use, not for pushing), but we were in the hands of the boys in blue for hours; all stripped, quick peep up the jacksy and all that. The good thing was that Spike had managed to persuade the other punters to agree to holding up the coach which finally headed off at about eleven o'clock with us all (except one on board.

We had the wigan coach raided outside the brit nottm. coppers with sniffer dogs, more squard than people heading off to the nighter. Took the coach to bridgford nick and striped searched everyone boys and girls alike and with not alot of privacy, seen quite afew of the girls in a differant light after that couldnt remember there names to well when dressed up. They treated us like s--t even said they would take us naked to the outside yard and set the fire hose on us if they didnt find anything was a young lad and it was october. good thing no one got nicked for drugs, But poor tommy craig got nicked for under age drinking anyone else there that night. andy c

On our way to the Torch one night to see 'Major Lance' (the one that was recorded) and the coach was stopped and raided by the boys in blue. Took us to some police station in the back of some god forsaken suburb, and held there for 4 hours. Searched everthing including 'Polo' packets to see if anything was hidden down the middle of of the mints, and they took apart 2 'Discotrons'. We were made to sit in a room till it was your turn to be searched and they wouldn't let you go to the toilet (for obvious reasons). They did find a few pills on the coach, but couldn't find who's they were. One funny part that I remember was that when the squad jumped on the coach, one guy was so shocked, he let go of his cigarette and it went down the back of the guy in the seat in front of him, causing him to jump up and down shouting in pain  . No arrests were made and we still got to the Torch in time to see the Major's show. AWESOME TIMES!!!! Edited by steveluigi

One of the Scottish buses got raided one night and Avron got arrested and taken to the police station as she had suspicious looking pills in her posession. It was actually "Pro Plus" that her mother (of all people) had given her "to keep her awake" because she had the flu!

She got a letter the day before she was due in court, to say there were no illegal substances in the bottle of Pro Plus.

We did have a laugh about it, especially as a lad from Manchester used to phone me on a Thursday before we left to take orders for Charnock Richards! He always brought some "Halib Orange" for me :D . Luckily they didn't check them out :P

Never been on a coach thats been searched also never been searched at an all nighter though for around thirty years had ds ambush me in strange places ,ransack my homes etc any way there is an incident that sticks in mind concerning a coach, all nighter and the old bill. There was a coach used to run from kettering to st Ives allnighters in 76,77 ,it picked up and dropped off at of all places in front of the towns old bill station, going the queue would form on the other side of the road from the plod house, coming back it would stop right outside the big front doors of the place. On the specific journey concerned we had come back from the nighter ,myself and mick gavin, steve from wellingborough and wilky ,lenny from corby were among the usual dont pays having got there by other means the night before so just got on the coach in the morning to come back with all the rest from the night before plus others doing what we did.The coach was packed ,people sitting on the floor, crowded into seatsWe were all well blocked still and having the usual laugh on the way back with wilky leading as per norm. There was a lad from wellingborough ,eugene miles well known for his propensity to put anything he could find in a syringe and stick it in his arm,he didnt go to many nighters but was a local wellingborough lad who just loved drugs who Mick Gavin r.i.p bless him ,and the other wellingborough lads knew well, eugene had been blocked out of it at the nighter and had a big handful of nembies(I hate and always have barbs) to top off his night and come down on in the morning and was staggering up and down the bus, falling on people and generelly providing good entertainment Myself,Wilky,Gavin etc were all sat up the back of the bus so we watched eugene push fall and stagger his way to the front as he was told we were nearly there as the bus pulled into Kettering .As the coach stopped right out side the old bill station on a sunny early Sunday morning the door hissed open as they do and we watched as Eugene, roly poly figured half caste with a huge afro , staggered out on to the pavement, dressed in shirt tie and velvet jacket and flairs and looking the worse for wear from the night before walks straight towards the double glass doors of the cop shop.As we watch the rest of the coach doing the same as no one else has yet has got off, theyre all watching Eugene who ,as if in slow motion unzips his trousers and gets his knob out and starts to piss all up and down and over the big shiny double glass doors. Its as if its happening in slow motion,we can see through the glass doors the police behind the front desk dropping everything and come running from behind heading for the doors.Eugene is still pissing when the doors swing open and quick as a flash hes grabbed by many arms and bundled off inside. Then as if nothings happened everyone gets off the coach but it seems as if they cant get away fast enough from that area as most depart at high speed. We all had a really good laugh about the incident and to cap it all off when Eugene went to court they charged him with drunk and disorderly even though he had his syringe and injecting kit in his pocket not a mention of him being obliterated on a mixture of amphet and barbituates. One among many memorable events concerning that bus.

We were pulled in & searched walking back up to Wigan station on a Sunday morning once.

I didn't use barbs (as i value my life, can't say that about some other substances that a different story), but one of my mates had some Tuinal in his back pocket (I remember he had on those horrible Spencer trousers with button up back pockets too, so I don't know how he managed to get at them).

These two plod had screeched right up to us from behind from nowhere & had us all under control in an instant

Anyway, we were all made to sit still on a bench (think it was a bus stop seat) with our hands out in view on our knees, while these two plain clothes Serpico's searched us one at a time.

I remember my mate, who was a proper mentalist, mouthing to me he had the tablets, anyways he somehow managed get at to drop them through the slats in the bench before he was up for a search & they were never found.

A lucky escape, we laughed about it later on the train, but on reflection, maybe not so lucky, because the same lad had a long history of abuse & still has, he ended up being sectioned, jailed & all kinds, he has had a sad life to be honest & early intervention may just have help him, he really didn't know what a game of roulette he was playing with those deadly things, its was viewed as kind of cool in those days by some people.

As I say, I'm no moralist & certainly no angel have my vices, but barbiturates are a whole different league, I can't believe more people didn't actually die.

remember the night well Terry...1st night I played the Magnetics- I have a girl.. wink.gif Inspector Bullock took the piss and took me to that room off the main room....

'strip search Mr D?;

"f*** off Mr Bullock, I'll take my shirt and socks off, if you want more arrest me and make sure you got a Dr the other end when we turn up at Bridge Street"

"ok PD put your shirt and socks back on, between you and me we may have fuckked up big time tonight" laugh.gif

When I first came to live over in Peterborough I was told about "Bullock",who was said to hate pathologicaly amphetamine especially but all drugs generely the people who used them and also had a nasty dislike of all nighters. The person who filled me in on bullock was a person I had known before moving over here, not a soulie but a raging speed freak who used to travel round the countryside registering with doctors under different names and getting them to give him amphetamines on prescription in large quantities,he would usualy come away with either dexys, skf blues and black and whites and would always have loads of bottles and cartons of the things as his doctors were on a rota and he would visit at least a cou-ple a day sometimes more getting a few weeks supply from each at a time.He did very well at this for a long time as well as having a very large legitimate script for dex.The blokes name was Dave Negus r.i.p he died about ten years ago now maybe a little longer but was still doing the doctors till the end though not as many .Anyway bullock hated him and the feeling was mutual ,apparently this bullock could be an evil bastard beyond the call of duty one time Dave had been drinking in the aldermans when Bullock and a couple of cid followed him into the toilets and started cutting it up rough when Dave refused a search and during the scuffle he headbutted bullock in the face.Dave was arrested and taken to the police station what was a shoplifting charge then turning into a gbh on bullock. When in the cells Dave again refused to co operate and was followed into the cell by bullock and more coppers who got out the sticks and started to beat him (for resisting?)Apparently he was beaten severely ,he told me bullock was acting like he was directing traffic saying ",Go on you can hit him in the thigh ,hes not covering up there, look his elbows clear ,whack that, and so this beating went on.The punishment eventualy stopped when the then police surgeon who had turned up to see what was going on as Dave had been reported as ",Drug crazed and dangerous".walked in on the scene of carnage and tried to get them to stop by shouting which they took no notice of so he dived on top of Dave to protect him took a couple of whacks but got the beating to stop.Dave got charged with theft and gbh but this was dropped as he also agreed not to proceed against them for the beating the police surgeon ,a local gp had agreed to give evidence for him and resigned from the police surgeon part time post over everything, decidng to just stick with his gp practice at the cathedral surgery. He ,Dave that is did appear in court once the morning after the beating as they tried to remand him ,he had to be helped into the dock, but they failed in this bid, again the doctor had turned up at court on his behalf.Dave himself was left with a couple of disfigurements due to the attack on him but they didnt affect his enormous appetite for duraphet, drinamyl amphetamine powders etc.O n severel occasions I had been with Dave in a pub or such in town when that inspector bullock walked in and Dave would taunt him about the incident and his lack of fitness to be a copper for doing such things and I have heard bullock make some vitriolic replies back.I am glad not to have had any run ins with bullock and his boys and have stayed off the radar as they say as the ds i have encountered that nicked me for chemists etc may well have been sneaky bastards ,would bend the rules as much as they could to get you but I get the feeling would not have resorted to outright fitting you up planting evidence etc but I cant say I think the same would apply to bullock.Maybe Dave was just an exceptional thorn in his side and he only acted the way he did to him and not others but imho I dont think so.R.i.p Dave hope they have got a massive supply of duraphet wherever you are because with the appetitie you had for the stuff theyl need it.

ps The Doctor who saved him the beating then became his doctor as unbelievably Dave was not registered with a peterborough doctor(though had dozens under dodgy ids all round the country side)and proceeded to give him a regular large weekly script of Dexedrine evn writing to the home office on his behalf for permission to give such a quantity.Bukllock I believed has no doubt retired long since,I remeber reading one time a few years back in the evening telegraph that Bullocks house had caught fire and been burnt out and thinking that Dave if he been alive would have enjoyed reading that.

Cleethorpes bus used to be the best on Harry! Every time, the same place, two cars across the road and they'd get on and take you into a school along the road and search us all. Stupid really, we all used to neck the stuff when we passed a house with big stone lions outside. Five minutes later, there was the squad, never found nothing! laugh.gif

"Then why is your name and address on the envelope"! laugh.gif

Remember the fashion for a leather thong round your neck with a black wooden fist on?

Just to wind up the squad I remember Ian wearing one with a big 'black and white' cap made out of wood, instead!

Yes they did it a bit too regular down Cleggy .... half the chuffin squad could not bust a balloon

Remember a few incidents with the drug squad but the most memorable one goes as follows,we`d been to sammy`s to the allnighter one friday and there was a lass(Julie mappin) who had a organised a coach the next night going to wigan. in them days we used to go straight from sammy`s to faulkners snooker hall on cambridge street to pass a couple of hours on till the crazy dazy opened at dinner and then straight on to whatever nighter was on the next night. the pick up point was fitzhalen square in centre of sheffield. as we were getting on the coach we noticed the drug squad opposite side of road( everbody knew them and the cars they drove round in) taking note of everbody getting on coach, thought we were going to get busted there and then

but know nothing happened which we all thought was really strange.so we set of to wigan when we pulled into car park in wigan all hell let loose as soon as coach pulled in we were surronded by police and the drug squad well i have never seen so much activity go on inside a coach in about 30 seconds, think you know what i mean, the drug squad got on coach and sat on the coach while we were driven to wigan police station were they made us wait for about a hour before they searched us all, of course they found nothing, they said to all of us they would be waiting for us to board the coach the next morning were they would interview us again. knowing this everbody apart from julie mappin got lifts elsewhere either car or train.we had many close shaves with mr pont and mr devere over the years, Happy Days

Coach organised by Gray Weaver from Chesterfield to The Casino. Stopped just outside Wigan on a quiet stretch of road. Everyone stuffed their gear into some bags and threw them through the Sun Roof on the Coach. Sent on our way with a warning even though they found sod all. Pulled in at the Casino Car Park and the bag was still on the Coach roof Result !!!

We used to travel from Edinburgh in an old Transit van and got pulled by the plod in the Casino car park. They were very suspicious about the van as you started it with a screwdriver ( no ignition key) and the brakes were OK at speeds under 20 mph. The cops decided to take us to Wigan nick for a thorough investigation, and they wouldn't let me drive it either which is when they found out the steering was shit as well. As the cop driving was too busy invoking any God prepared to listen to pay any attention to everyone in the back, the rate of pills being swallowed was incredible. When we got to the station we were all left milling around waiting to be questioned while they searched the van. No one got nicked and I'll never forget the amount of people with eyes lilke bush babies slavering a lot of shite to the officers who didn't have a clue what was going on. Just as well it was traffic cops and not the DS or we'd probably still be there yet. Oh happy days.....
