Russ lays claim to I`m on my way but not so sure, I think I heard he`s stretching that one

"I'm On My Way" although not actually 'discovered' by Glen Bellamy but I am led to believe he was the first to play it out because the guy who 'discovered' it wouldn't!

so the legend goes.

old brigade all crap dancers?? well well what a load of shit that statment is .in my opinion there was more good dancers around back in the 70s than today thats for sure this is somthing that i have been saying for years . there are cracking dancers around now as well but for my money those that are any good these days move exactly the same as the old brigade in the 70s and no i do not mean the idiots who do back drops and nearly take peoples eye's out jumping around all over the place . some of us old brigade stil move with grace & confidence with precision timing granted there are some sights on the floor but there is a hell of a lot of 40 somthings that simply dont have a clue and clearly have copied others from years ago without much sucses . back in the day it took yonks to build the confidence and gain the know how . now you need f.... insurance to go near the dance floor . and just for the record without us old buggers around today your northern soul scene would be very very small indeed .so you had beter thank your lucky stars that we aint all stuck in the past

well obviously he didnt do f*** all did he?

lets leave it at that eh..

After 77 no MArk. Unless someone can tell us otherwise - but it seems no one can point to a single credible discovery of his after 1977.

The Casino run from September 73-1981. So Russ's creative period if I can call it that without being frog marched into his fan club was in the first half. In the second half of the Casino's life he was very poor.

so in that list who elses spins was russ playing..

love music was russ's and this was massive wasnt it??

i believe that the majority were his spins and he made them popular...just because you dont like the records is no reason to say he never played anything or broke any records in this period.i of course bow down to your superior knowledge - just tell me who played these tunes and ill gladly apologise

compared to RS quality russ spins were inferior i agree ( i personally dont think it was that poor) and not many could have lived with his playlists ..

So he's making that bit up as well. That's one of his signature tunes.

A total idiot.

steve it's a rubbish pop tune anyway............but it's peps tune for what it's worth....cause l was there!

Mark didn't say I didn't like them - the point is simple- all the tunes listed were playd 77 or prior by Russ including Love music. I wouldn't say it was massive but it was one of Russ's first hour records for about a year and was kind of a casino classic in so far as you went through the doors and could expect old Russ to be playing it.

But what did he break after 77 ????

that's the point and still waiting.

mARK, Russ's memory is going - I assume he is feeding you these titles. These may have been played by Russ, but they were mostly first played before 77 with the exception of LJ Johnson and Mary WIlson. A couple I don't know like Bobs Band ohmy.gif, Marti Caine and Bobby J mcCarthy- hardly classics though are they eh? He even reviewed Sammy Lee ( a v good record) in Black Music in 1975. I am sorry but this is less than convinving.

I think the Russ Winstanley fan club needs some encouragement so gonna get a small run of badges done, membership is still free but a small charge of say tenner for the badge, of course on Ebay worth at least 20 and if you get a black one......

Taking orders now

...and a man of principle , he was offered a good slot at this event but kindly declined

look fella,as i've said ..PEP played it at the CATACOMBES before wogan opened l know cause l was THERE on many an occasion when he played it.......RW can have the cridit if you want cause it's a shite pop tune to go with all the other shite pop tunes he played...before his devestated period in 81.

Chief Inspector here, you're in cloud cookoo land matey, away with the F'ing fairies.......................why do you assume that every person that doesnt wear that embarrassing uniform doesnt dance, you guys make me laugh, you constantly winge about people knocking these kinda events & the unimaginative play lists & the people that attend, but you are always adding the under hand comments like 'soul Police', Rare is Crap, chin strokers, kinda jibe, what do you think people do at real Allnighters these day's, your having a larf, get back in ya time warp & stop bothering people who have a genuine passion for NS.............on the whole your average, non baggy trousered soulies, just get on with it, why do you guys need to constantly defend your right to listen to the same old records once a year & wear embarrassing retro clothing, I blame ya Mum, for letting you out like that in the first place, do you get changed at the event or do you walk round looking like that.............. ................how does your wife feel, cos if I did that my missus, after she had p*ssed herself laughing would give me a slap & refuse to leave the house until I put some propper clothing on. I have just had this wonderful vision of Steve G, in his Spencers & vest, accompanied by Mick H & Butch, Butch has got those lovely denim patch work ones on...........& Steve is in a truss after attempting a vertical kick, followed by a forward splits.................hahaahahaahahahaahaahhhhhhhhhahahahahahahahahahaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhha

hahahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahaaahahhhh

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

If i didnt have better things to do, like attending a real Allnighter I'd come. It would be worth it just for the laugh, priceless.......!!!!

Over a thousand turned up last year to dance on the holy grail site of Northern soul,The grande Arcade Wigan It may be a shopping centre now and you have to close your eyes and dream a bit to go back to your youth but only a place like the Casino could pull so many people for an event like this.

Russ tells me that tickets are selling faster than last year and the fire limit has been increased to 2000 for this event.

Now heres my tip for a free nite out

Some of last years badges sold for £100 on ebay ( can only happen with the Casino) this being the 35th Anniversay the badges will go for more so my suggestion is buy a few badges which will only be available on the day ,bang them on ebay and it will cover entrance , drinks and poss a hotel to crash afterwards, also if you buy Steve (the badge man)a pint he might sell you a black badge, i believe there are only ten of these and they will be worth serious a bob or two.

So if you can close your eyes and dream you now where to go and if you cant dream then I beleive Top Man have got a good sale on

for full details check https://www.wigan-casino.co.uk/

IF YOU DONT FANCY DANCING IN SHOPPING MALL :P HOW ABOUT COMING TO SHREWSBURY BUTTERMARKET ALNIGHTER WE ARE DOING OUR OWN 35TH ANNIVERSAY NOTHING GRAND JUST GOOD MUSIC WITHOUT THE BULL SHIT !!!!! Edited by bananaman

Coops, yes your right, there nowt wrong wi Peterborough but it was the best PPP I could come up with at the time, so no offense to Peterborough. Secondly it's Wiggin's the Dj not Wiggan's or are we both wrong & it's Woggan's?? Finally I have no idea if pie's in Wigan are any good, do you seriously think I managed to eat ANYTHING before, during or after the nighter till at least Tuesday?? I have no idea why, must have been that giddy with excitement!! :P

Take care, be safe & remember,"Near a tree by a river there's a hole in the ground, where an old man a baron goes around and around,"

Spot.

Was that a Russ Winstanley discovery at Wigan then Pete ??????

Now if you wanted to put something of benefit on here Stef you could give us a nudge about the old Modern Soul Nights we ran at Papa Luigis in the 80s. Top nights theye were too. Can't remember seeing you then :P
