He was deffo first to play it, Rob' playlist was amazing when you look back at it. I remember him being called Rob 'Floorclearer' Marriott in a magazine column, and it's amazing to think of the number of records which are enormous (and I mean ENORMOUS!) now which he played to empty floors. Was he first to play the Hyperions, covered up as the Escorts, or did someone else play it first? I remember he bought loads of stuff from one of Keb's sell-ups, including the Moments on Hog, when it was just the Edgewood acetate, and the Charmaines "Standing In The Need Of Love", among others. He was a very forward-thinking DJ who had a lot of really tremendous sounds before they were well known, and I don't think he ever really got the credit he deserved. There was another copy sold from someone in the UK to someone in the UK not that long ago. It went relatively cheap too. I later checked the feedback and the buyer (a frequent big spender on ebay) apparently got the record and was happy with it. Hammy link Rob certainly played the Hyperions c/u as Escorts-"I'm so in love with you" in the early 90's at Allanton and the Claremont amongst other places.The post earlier on this thread saying how he never got the recognition he deseved was spot on. The unknowns he had were friggin' incredible. We wre lucky Rob enjoyed our local night at the Claremont and was happy to come up to Edinburgh regularly playing unissued Groovesville stuff, "Love on a leaseplan", the original acetate of Four Larks "You need love",etc..brilliant toons that were certainly appreciated by those in attendance. Rob put the Soul Inc. track on a tape we gave away 50 copies of as an anniversary thang, c/u as Cecil Washington "It will Last", the following month everyone was talking about it and the track became a big sound. I was lucky enough to buy the record from Rob a few months later and was mighty impressed when the c/u label came off to reveal Cecil had written the song and the Propnonics Studio address around the label. Keith Money got one not very long after me, then one of the Aberdeen lads as well. I thought then loads would turn up, as people in Scotland were starting to get thier hands on copies reasonably quickly. Looks like I was wrong! Tim had one Martin had the second and the third went to Rob M. I bought the second copy from M.Koppel when he sold up before he listed it as I new he had one after talking to Tim B about it in the Mid 90,s..Keith Moneys copy came a couple of years later via Shifty.I sold my copy to Dave Flynn then a year later got in contact with the guy who told me he had actually been the band manager and got his copy plus the story of how no demos made and the band only took one box on tour locally to give away as freebees.The rest sat on the shelf in the Mt morris studio in flint Michigan(if memory serves me correct.) The label owner called Paul Potts (maybe related to Ady) or not as the case maybe. He could not afford to keep up the rent payments on the office so he was evicted and all stock that was on the shelves was trashed into the skip./..This was the managers his version...he was still incontact with one of the guys who was general dogsbody at the time in the office and he was supposedly a bit of a bin scratcher so he told me he would try to contact him and see if he had any more copies..but alas that was the last I ever heard from him..I cant even remember his bloody name now either..So Can I claim to be the only fool to have had two copies and sell them both..doh?? hope this is of intrest to some of you chasers of the black gold . the gasher Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

He still kept most of his un-issued stuff Jimmy Wensiora disappeared into the mystical world of the Showmans guild at Blackpool and Mablethorpe and now has a collection of fair ground rides instead of his record collection which was the grounding for most of todays rare scene as we know it. Rob Marriott, well what can you say, painting and decorating in the mansfield area an absolute crying shame sandi Golden, et al all gone !
