Mike,New Book 6 Whitworth Street - The Birthplace of Northern Soul
Chapelisland posted an article in Soul Music Articles,
Introduction
This book is about the Northern Soul years of the Twisted Wheel Club, at its Whitworth Street location. It is about how one little basement club, in Manchester, created a worldwide music phenomenon. It attempts to follow the evolution of Black music at the club from Blues through to R&B, Mod, Soul to Northern Soul. Although the club went through different phases of Black music the lines were blurred and they were never completely segregated, R&B overlapped with Mod, Mod overlapped with Soul, etc resulting in different genres that were mixed by DJs in the same session.........................

Mike,Book - I Searched For Soul and Found The Stars - Gilly
Gilly posted an article in Soul Music News,
I Searched For Soul and Found The Stars.
Well at last I can announce that this much anticipated book will be available for your pleasure in November 2020.
It tells of the 5 trips I made to the States (85-94) and along with others, what we got up to, record finds, and more importantly who we met and the quality time with those people 'The Stars' that we met along the way. In most cases a first for anyone outside the USA.
From day one it has always been my intention to put into words these talented peoples legacy, and for their families going forward to know just what an impact they had on peoples lives here in the UK. Their musical creations, from singer, backing bands, label owners, and studio engineers, not only formed our lives but some could claim, gave us our lives.
This music that was sadly ignored on the day of it's creation in the States has stood the test of time, interest has grown world wide, and in part has found it's way back to the States.
Here are a few prominent features from each trip that I made
Trip 1 in this myself, Guy Hennigan, and Chris King, spent time with "Popcorn" Wylie and his wife Gloria. Pat Lewis held a party for us three, and in attendance were George Clinton, George McGregor, Don Davis, Belita Woods, Sandra Richardson. (Dance Fever) In this trip we spent time with Lorraine Chandler, Gino Washington, Casablanca,(James Stanford) Edward Wolfrum, Artie Fields, Barbara Acklin.

Mike,Junior Walker & The All Stars (Artist Of The Week)
45cellar posted an article in Soul Music Articles,
Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr. (June 14, 1931 – November 23, 1995), known professionally as Junior Walker, was an American saxophonist and vocalist who recorded for Motown during the 1960s.
His career started when he developed his own band in the mid-1950s as the Jumping Jacks. His longtime friend and drummer Billy Nicks (1935–2017) formed his own group, the Rhythm Rockers. Periodically, Nicks would sit in on Jumping Jack's shows, and Walker would sit in on the Rhythm Rockers shows.
Nicks obtained a permanent gig at a local TV station in South Bend, Indiana, and asked Walker to join him and keyboard player Fred Patton permanently. Nicks asked Willie Woods (1936–1997), a local singer, to perform with the group; Woods would learn how to play guitar. When Nicks was drafted into the United States Army, Walker convinced the band to move from South Bend to Battle Creek, Michigan.[1] While performing in Benton Harbor, Walker found a drummer, Tony Washington, to replace Nicks. Eventually, Fred Patton left the group, and Victor Thomas stepped in. The original name, The Rhythm Rockers, was changed to The All Stars"l. Walker's style was inspired by jump blues and early R&B, particularly players like Louis Jordan, Earl Bostic, and Illinois Jacquet.
The group was spotted by Johnny Bristol, and he recommended them to Harvey Fuqua, in 1961, who had his own record labels. Once the group started recording on the Harvey label, their name was changed to Jr. Walker All Stars. The name was modified again when Fuqua's labels were taken over by Motown's Berry Gordy, and Jr. Walker & the All Stars became members of the Motown family, recording for their Soul imprint in 1964...

Mike,New MD Records 45 Release - Karla Denning & Dynamic Siblings
Md Records posted an article in Soul News Archives,
KARLA DENNING - I BEAR WITNESS/DYNAMIC SIBLINGS - I BEAR WITNESS - MD 103
Joe Stevenson was born in 1930 in North Philly, and from a young age was passionate about music, graduating from playing & writing to producing, whilst holding down two jobs in the post office and as a school teacher. By the end of 1960, Joe had built a studio – Imperial Sound Studios at 447 N. 60th St, Philadelphia and was putting out 45’s on his own “Pentagon” label, and from 1965, in association with partners, Bill Lucas and Ed Kelley, was producing and putting out releases on the “Del Val” label.
MD records, in association with Joe Stevenson bring you two tracks, recorded at Imperial Sound Studios that sadly did not make it to vinyl at the time. Vince Apollo (Marvin Brown) had recorded, and released “I Bear Witness” on Joe’s “Pentagon” label in 1967, but had also cut a duet version with his sister Connie, as the “Dynamic Siblings”, which never made it past the acetate stage until now!!!
Coupled with this, we have Karla Denning’s “Funky” take on the “Vince Apollo” tune, recorded in 1971 and again, not getting past the acetate stage until now!!
Just a heads up, first class postage costs have been increased by Royal Mail, prices below now reflect this.
As usual the singles are £10 each and postage first class recorded in the UK is £2.70 for 1 to 3 singles. Europe and RoW on request.
Payment is via PayPal friends and family, so 1 single to UK would be £12.70, 2 singles £22.70, 3 singles £32.70.
If paying goods and services please add 5%, so for example, one single would be £13.35, 2 would be £23.84 etc.
PayPal address is d.parker299@btinternet.com
