Mike,Eddie Foster Dreams of Wigan - Black Music 1970s
Mike posted an article in Soul Music Articles,
The music is black american and obscure - ghetto sounds which never made it, the followers are mostly white and fanatical - working class kids in the industrial heart of Britain who dance like there's no tomorrow to records most of us will never hear. The Northern Soul Scene is a strange mixture of good and bad, of burning dedication and grubby exploitation. Despised by some, misunderstood by most, it is the ultimate Underground scene. Tony Cummings investigates...

Mike,Tanika Charles - The Gumption LP - Pre-release
Mike posted an article in Soul News Archives,
Press blurb follows below
Canadian soul star Tanika Charles announce the release of her second album, “The Gumption”, out next 10 of May on Record Kicks.
Juno Award and Polaris Music Prize-nominated Canadian soul star Tanika Charles, announce the new studio album “The Gumption”, that will hit the streets worldwide next 10 of May on Record Kicks. Tanika Charles releases today an animated teaser, created by the German artist Aline Helmcke, that unveil “Cadillac Moon” one of the track of the new album.
Produced by a stable of some of Canada’s finest musical minds including DJ Kemo (The Rascalz, Kardinal Offishall), Chin Injeti (DJ Khalil, Eminem, Drake) and Daniel Lee (Hooded Fang, Phedre), “The Gumpion” picks up where Soul Run left off, continuing her tradition of marrying classic soul with modern production styles.
Since emerging on the international scene in 2017 with her debut Soul Run,Tanika Charles has revealed herself to be one of the best kept secrets in soul music. Both on stage and off, Toronto-based Charles presents an immutable charm, at times endearingly abrasive and honest in her vulnerabilities. Tanika returns in 2019 battle tested and ready to reveal the latest chapters of her life since graduating from local favourite to international success.

A new book has just been published about one of the most enigmatic names on the sixties Soul scene - Jerry O.
Never really accepted as a true Soul singer, Jerry Murray was more of a Soul showman who owned record labels, produced records, managed groups, deejayed and released eighteen records himself.

Mike,The New Creations - The Fish Song - Soul Junction Records
Chalky posted an article in Soul Music Articles,
Release Date: Monday 28thJanuary 2019
The New Creation were a five piece ensemble made up of family members Robert James Randle (Aka Rasheed Shakoor Sr) his son Keith Randle (aka Rasheed Shakoor Jr) their nephew/cousin Mel Houston. Mel’s stepfather William Cooper (aka Wali Ali) and a fifth unrelated member only remembered as Wayne E-2X.
The creator of The New Creation was William Cooper a guitarist who had previously worked with Norman Whitfield at Motown and had toured with The Undisputed Truth and The Jackson Five. He had also been employed by HB Barnum as part of Areatha Franklin’s touring band an association that would be relevant in The New Creation’s story.
The concept of The New Creation began sometime during 1973 when Robert James Randle penned the song “The Fish Song” ( credited as Robert 51-X) and William Cooper penned the song “Elijah Knows” amongst other material that never really got past the demo stage. Adding teenage cousins Mel Houston (Bass Guitar) and Keith Randle (Conga drums) and Wayne E-2X , The New Creation began performing through their affiliation to the African America political and religious movement , The Nation Of Islam with no lesser a person than Muhammad Ali, as a support act to his Celebrity Boxing Promotion Tours. They also toured as a support act to one of Philadelphia’s most well known soul groups, The Delfonic’s.

Mike,Eugene Thomas New Release - Out Now
Dave Moore posted an article in Soul News Archives,
The name of Eugene Thomas has become well known in soul circles ever since it was discovered that he was the lead vocalist on that wonderful Northern Soul double sided classic by Epitome Of Sound – “You Don’t Love Me b/w Where Were You”, which was recorded at Venture Studios in Bound Brook New Jersey and subsequently released on Sandbag Records in 1967. Fast forward an amazing 52 years and the author of both sides of that classic 45 Robert Paladino, has recently released a 45 and here, hot its heels is a solo effort from Mr Thomas.
Written and co-produced by Eugene himself, Eugene Thomas – “I’m Through With You b/w Lovely Lady” Sweet Beat Records (RW1805), combines two excellent soul sides that do a great job of tipping their hat to the golden era of 60s soul.
The A Side is a pounding up-tempo dancer relating the story against a love affair gone wrong as Eugene ditches his two-timing woman. Full blown, on the fours, Northern Soul with a crackin’ sax break, if it garners the right exposure I’d imagine it will get great dancefloor reaction from the dancers. The flip is another ‘bounce along’ dancer that highlights Eugene’s dexterity within his song-writing skills as he embraces a new love. Musically it’s another performance that would seem ideally suited to the Northern Soul dancefloors.
The 45 is available from all the usual outlets in UK and US.
Here's a snippet of both sides:
