About The Event

Some words from the original Morecambe Pier and Soul Promotions promoter Shaun Gibbons:

Since the all-nighters in Morecambe ceased in the 1990’s I’ve often been asked whether I would be interested in putting anything on again and have to admit that it’s something that’s been developing as an idea in more recent years as I’ve started to enjoy venturing out again as many of us have, meeting familiar faces from the past and making new friends along the way.

2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the first Morecambe Central Pier all-nighter and to mark the occasion it seemed fitting to pull together all the ideas and launch an event returning to almost where it all started. Obviously, the Pier isn’t an option as sadly it burnt down, but the final venue we moved to in Morecambe afterwards, was equally great in its own way, THE CARLTON!!  And we’re proud to announce that we’ve secured it to celebrate the anniversary (Although they have changed the name to the Alhambra , but we’ll ignore that, this IS the Carlton!).

So, on Saturday 15th April 2023, we are going to do it all again, with original Pier DJ’s, 2 rooms and wooden sprung dancefloor (you can’t see the sea between the floorboards – we couldn’t get it perfect). So, this is it, the return of ‘Soul Promotions’ to Morecambe. If you liked the Pier and the Carlton, then here’s your chance to do it all again and just like every anniversary, there’s even patches to add to your collections.

What made ‘The Pier’ and ‘The Carlton’ so special was the people who came, so you know the date we can’t wait to see faces old and new, you didn’t have to attend the original events to enjoy the wonderful music; everyone is welcome.

 See you all there!

Shaun & the Soul Promotions team.

For any of you wanting to remind yourselves of the magic from the Morcambe years (or even discover it for the first time) this show from the man himself (Richard Searling) is a musical tribute the the fabulous Morecambe Pier All-Nighters, 1983-1986.

After Wigan Casino closed, these events kept the Northern Soul flag flying high in the North-West with an amazing mix of classic Northern and high-quality Modern Soul sounds.

You can catch up with many more of Richards radio shows by following him at: www.mixcloud.com/spurs1961.

We're going to take the opportunity to post some memorabilia from Morecambe, hopefully interesting and also might bring back some memories from those who attended:

Looks like it’s going to be busy 👍 Missed very few at the Pier then Carlton as a youth; great memories. Remember one night down at the Dome on the front which I seem to recall Adey C playing at. (Melba Moore magic touch era I think it was)

The rare soul room will be absolutely buzzing on the night too, 100%

A note from Shaun Gibbons following the sad loss of Chris King:

I was shocked to hear the news that Chris King had sadly passed away.  Chris and I were not close friends but I always respected him as a fellow promoter.  Chris always put his money where his mouth was and brought over some fantastic artists like the Ric Tic review at Hinckley, which was fantastic.  My thoughts and prayers at this time are with his family and friends.

RIP Chris from Shaun Gibbons and all the team at Soul Promotions
