Some great tunes there, BUT probably THE BEST true, true "60's" discovery of 2009 is without any doubt "Ronnie Walker - On & On" can anyone name anything else that was GENUINELY discovered THIS year????

Des Parker

Des can you add a clip of this Ronnie Walker???

Technologically way, way beyond me. Ronnie's sold a fair proportion of the 200 copies that were pressed, so someone who bought one, and with a far better grasp of Computers will post up.....hopefully. Backing wise, in a similar style to Robert Tanner, with Ronnie's unmistakably brilliant vocals, and after a few spins it's in your headthumbsup.gif

Heard some cracking tunes this year & would be impossible to name a top three, however heres a handful that I lurvveeeeeeeeeeeee.......

Scott 3 - Running Wild - March

Gwen McCrae - Let Me Do My Thing - Peppermint Jam

Four Perfections c/up

Avons - When the Boy etc....unissued Ady C 100 Club Stormer......

Also 'Cooking on Three Burners', has gotta be up there in the top 10, along with the

Internationals - Beautiful Philosophy. Karl Heard has played some stunning stuff this year to great aclaim & Dave Abbott has to have a mention also, for continuing to search out & play some real stunners. The 100 Club as always has championed the unknown, lesser known & unissued, there have been some real hoofers this year, but I love the Avons.

Best Cheapie award goes to THE DYNAMOS You Can Do It By Yourself DYNAMO Records

Thanks to Dave Moore for reminding me just how good this is, available to any one who appreciates a good soul dance record & lets hear out more next year please.

Keep on diggin' & dancin' in 2010.......

Alfie 79 - Got to agree with you, simply a great reworking of the classic Rex Garvin and the Mighty Cravers tune. The above seventies version is a belter, and quite well known. Owned The Dynamos copy for over 30 years and it never fails to disappoint. I do recall it being given exposure by various jocks spinning it over the years. But well worth £30.00 tops.

Great to read - it had escaped Arthur's ears before, I bet that had you Alfie, going through the rest of your dee jaying set, with a new found strength :good: .

great topic....my personal 3 for this year have been:

Sea Shells - Quiet Home - Villige (absolutely stunning Detroit, Mike Terry production....not much more info about it, will play it for sure in the future)

Homer Banks - Sweetie Pie - Genie (Andy Dyson played this at the last Big Thing allnighter and though many of us didn´t know it created a BANG!!!...definitely will be massive in Spain

Linda Jones - Behold - Turbo....from "Your precious love" album, I believe it is LP only though not 100% sure, maybe not an "allnighter-song", to me it would make a fantastic ender though...goose pimples!!!

In with a bullet, Beeks' head exploding with the news hughes may be sacked.

I dont have any suggestions, but at the Berkeley allnighters Dave Thorley played a male group sound as a cover up. Lost the piece of paper with the CU title on it. That had me extremely excited. Dave, can you tell what it might have been? 60s sounding... Magnificents type of sound maybe?

Cheers.

Probably the Superlatives, as I'm pretty sure it had a top name as the CU.

Will have to try to get to hear both of these then. Thanks again.

If so this has been around a few years now? Nice to see it finally coming out if it's the same track as it's awesome crossover!

No not a new release, it's about 1970 i think, i'll check when i get home. This was another play at Move On at our first night in January and a few DJs went off and found their own copies straight away (Karl Heard and Callum in particular). It was known before we played it, but it is one of those great underplayed sounds that makes everyone pick up their ears.

great record played and filled the floor in the Aycliffe area in 2008,played it myself at the Rafa,my mate Funkinsoul on here gave me the nod about

it:thumbsup:,picked up a copy for a fiver.

never quite hit the heights I thought it would, maybe now.

Find it incredibly hard to pick just 3 top sounds of 2009................there have been many, many new sounds this year (new to me that is) and I feel its a blessing that's the case thumbup.gif

Trying to recall a whole year is also tricky, when remembering last week is pretty tough at times...

I'll go for 3 today, that may change tomorrow, and are up there at the moment as I start to recollect.......

Little Melvin And Boleros - Jealous Lover - Valarie 4397

Maskman And Agents - I Wouldnt Come Back - Loop 711

Rufus Wood And Additions - Under The Moon - Lando 181

All new to me in 2009.

Not so much old but these 3 songs are top of my list for 2009 and wouldn't mind them all on vinyl

1. Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill

2. Young Soul Rebels - I Got Soul

3. Rapheal Saadiq - Staying in Love - Only heard this like a week ago and wow what a tune and sounds like something that was made in the 60's

Some belters being mentioned and right across the board - first heard these this year for the first time ever and needed to dig very deep to find the first two - luckily got both for the collection.

Johnnie Hoyle - What About Me on Raybo (out of Stanley N.C. - now on youtube - girlie/mid tempo/crossoverish!)

La Chords - Sit Down And Write on Take Five (out of Phoenix Arizona - on Manship Rarest Of Rare - early up tempo group doowopish soul!)

Miracles - Whatever Makes You Happy on Tamla -(aye dead rare - Not! B side of Mickeys Monkey and just never bloody played it till a mate did the other night - mad eh!)

So 3 genuine ones that I heard for the first time ever this year.

Good thread Barney as we all discover new ones even though others may have had it for years.

A good xmas and new year to all sourcers - Tony

remember this is about what sounds define 2009 for you

ie sounds you have heard this year which have in your opinion have really stood out in 2009

it maybe hard to choose just one but my intention is for the top three to be hopefully across the board

what do you think this is not arbitary and can be amended

but the closin time for nominations needs to be adhered to

cheers b
