Stopping in for another weekend, can't remember last time I stayed in two weekends on the trot.....panicking I might like it

So I've thought long & hard about what to post tonight? So I've gone for an uptempo oldie, that doesn't get played much & was one of Dicke S's plays in his pomp........so a few bases covered with this one.........one that it doesn't is it isn't a cheapie?

Hi Martyn

You know this will get the thumbs up from me - Sir Dickie in his pomp indeed. Wasn't it covered as James Lewis and the Case of Tyme - or summat similar.

Peter

Thought I'd join in with the funky groove that some of the posts have had today............Play this loud the neighbours will love it :wicked:

Levon & The Hawks - He Don't Love You Atco

Hi Martyn

That's an interesting record which sounds flippin' fantastic btw - Levon is Levon Holm, the drummer I think in the Hawks - The Hawks were Bob Dylan's backing band in the 60's better known as "The Band " Songwriting credit is to Robbie Robertson The Band's guitarist.

Just found an odd 12 inch - odd in as much as I must have bought it blind yonks ago. It's Bobby Womack and an extended version of I Can Understand It with Harry Hippie on the flip. Didn't know either side way back then - not hugely keen on the a side but I have grown to love Harry Hippie.

So, I'll post that. Poetry from the master.

I've got the 45 of "I Can't Understand It" but by The Valentino's,which of course was the group Bobby was lead of.It's on the Clean label?

I've been told two stories about the Clean release........either it was Bobby's last outing with The Valentino's.........or it was the first release for The Valentino's without Bobby?Must admit I think it's the first version as it dunarf sound like Bobby.

Interesting Martyn

The twelve is accredited to Bobby only - no mention of the Valentino's. :g: It's a UK 1973 United Artist release - it looks brand new!

Peter

This is the Valentino's version,is it the same as Bobby's 12"?

This is the issue on the footage but mines a white demo.

That sounds really different from a clip I played earlier from youtube - hang on I'll go and get the 12 on - it's deffo Bobby - erm, maybe not deffo?

They sound totally different Martyn. I'm not even sure that it is Bobby on that clip you posted - it's a half decent impersonation, but i don't think it's him. I might well be wrong. I've not played my 12 for years and actually - it's bloody good!

I'm rubbish at techy stuff - I'll have a think about how I might post it up.

It's interesting.

You can't say it's a wang fangled modern phenomonen though - that 12 is nearly 40 years old! I don't know much but does that make that a pretty early 12 release?

Peter

Peter

It's not the 12" format I have a problem with............it's having to break them in half to fit into my 7" playbox.........

I'll get my coat :hatsoff2:

Today's outing is a bit of early Motown from the Gordy label. It's one of those tunes that's been around for what seems like ever without getting hammered.Sounds so,so good out at a venue over a big system.

Those kind people at the record company have just sent me a promo of this one - Nicole Willis & the Soul Investigators 'tell me when (we can start our love thing once again)'

Only sound clip i could find to load on here is the live version which was untitled at the time and doesn't do the 45 justice .

Will give the promo 45 which is a pre -cursor to the new album ,'Tortured Soul' - due in Feb 2013, a spin @ the Waterfront tomorrow .

Is it just me who rarely flips a record to play the usually unknown flip? Doh! Came across something on you tube a bit back and have only just cottoned onto the fact that I have the record - but to me it was a flip side I've never played or heard. So, a great double sider from me today.

Frankie Sanders - Take Another Look - the played out side which is great. But flip it and you get a stunning piece of southern soul - Blues time in Birmingham. Can't believe it's still such a cheapy. The one in the youtube clip is a second press - I have it on the Juana. think I like the Sho Me lable more!

Give it some proper volume and bass!

Well I caved & went out, nearest night to us was Scarborough so we shot off up there & had quite a good night.Nice little venue with some nice oldies played. Not something I would want to do every week but made a nice change.

So as I'm all happy little chappy this morning thought I'd post up a bit of a jolly disco-ish tune

This was made to raise money to try to save his favourite basketball team Boston Celtic.........it worked they are still on the go??

Never understood why this has gone for three figure in the past?Always plenty of them about so would have thought £20/40 was ample(still quite a bit more then I paid for mine)??

Aye up Peter, "Blues Time In Birmingham" stunning deep soul mate. That Youtube clip ain't a 2nd press mate! that's off my channel. Sho-Me was the local release before being picked up by Juana. if ya look at ya Juana copy bud, you'll see it times at 3:20, the Sho-Me cut comes in at 4:59! had to put the Sho-Me version on Youtube as an extra minute or so of this brilliant bit soul was essential

Hi Steve

Sorry, and happy to be corrected. That makes absolute sense - and it did seem odd when I read that after checking it out - might have been on discogs. The orange just looks righht doesn't it. But, as I'm always pissed I may well have read it wrong. I'll check it out again later.

As you say BTIB is a stunning soul record - so simple as well really. Great voice has old Frankie/Larry - note the diffferent spellings of his surname on the two releases as well.

Cheers Steve
