Happy New Year to one and all. Let's hope 2021 sees some sort of return to normal as the weeks and months roll on

Running annually since 2013, this is the 9th photography thread. Thanks to everyone who has participated and made this such a popular and long-running thread. I'm sure we can look forward to lots of great contributions.

Given the restrictions we've been facing for so long now, getting out and about hasn't always been easy or even possible. But, with a bit of good fortune hopefully we'll get opportunities to revisit new and familiar places with greater ease. Certainly I've hardly been beyond my immediate environment during much of last year, so I'm opening this thread with a couple of favourite photos from some years back.

Both were taken in Elie on the Fife coast in Scotland.

Happy snapping, everyone!

A grand selection of reader photos in this week's "Your pictures of Scotland" courtesy of the BBC News.

I don't know why, but the images sent into the BBC News by readers in Scotland are nearly always way more interesting than those from England.

Lovely sky Steve, that looks a great little lake. Went to Mathern Mill Saturday night, like you blanked, maybe two liners, but the Carp were like me tucked up in bed in as warm water as they could find I guess, not a single show until the morning, and that was just one Carp over the other side of the lake. No amount of food is gonna make you eat when you are freezing your balls off, or should that be fins...! lol

Cheers mate 👍.  The lake is quite big really probably half was visible in the picture as it goes to the right in the distance for about the same amount.  I fished the shallow part of the lake as the bailiff had seen cormorants catching Roach there earlier in the morning.  Going again tomorrow but about halfway down the lake into much deeper water so hopefully I will catch  a few .

Winter fishing is a totally different way of catching compared to summer as you well know my friend but if nothing else we are optimistic 😀

A very clever bit of driftwood art on the wall of the villa we've just been staying in in Fuerteventura.

A few festive photos from our annual pre-Christmas trip to the local garden centre. The garden centre, which is the largest in the Netherlands, always puts in a lot of effort to create a huge festive display of its wares. It's always worth a visit regardless of whether you buy anything or not, and I love going around with my iPhone looking for interesting Christmassy shots.

Had a great day in the Glyderau, Snowdonia mountains yesterday in spring like weather. Good to be out

First is The Castle of the Winds with Snowdon behind

Second is a cloud inversion behind Moel Siabod

Third is the Ogwen Valley from Y Garn

And final one is looking across Llynnau Mymbry to Snowdon reflections

We took a trip out to the Amsterdam water supply dunes this afternoon. Although the weather is fairly mild still, it was very overcast most of the time, which doesn't provide great conditions for taking pics.

But, I managed to nab a few, including one of a pair of goosanders, which I was thrilled to see.

A crow in silhouette. To give bit more of an atmosphere to the pic, I added a vignette.

Hundreds of canals here supply much of Amsterdam's fresh water.

Goosanders (male in front, female behind). Initially I thought these were red breasted mergansers, but the RSPB bird identification pages tell me otherwise.

Just a boring old crow - except that the light was quite good for this shot and shows up a lot of detail in the feathers. Normally, we just think of them being black all over.

Here's one for cricket fans. The ball used in the T20 world cup West Indies v Australia on 6th November, signed by Chris Gayle you took Mitchell Marsh's wicket with it. Probably the last time Chris will play world cup cricket. Present from Richard Illingworth test umpire.

Moderators please feel free to move if you feel this is in the wrong place.
