January 3, 201114 yr Valiants Walkin' girl Ensign....( right from the off this latinesque shouter hits the spot). Great record Mike. Also got a release on a major label, but cant remember which, as mine is one Ensign like yours.
January 3, 201114 yr i`d agree about this 7" has well, cracking tune The Esquires - Baba-Daba-Dop / Aint No Reason - B&G............................... (ignore the title!) two great tracks I've got a feeling that 'aint no reason' is also the flipside of their Rocky Ridge release?
January 3, 201114 yr Hot foxy women-Christian Plicque. If you like Heaven is my weakness- Ray Villar, your love this.Nice jazzy/Modern dancer. Great Sound !!! Awesome Funky flute number ! Best thing I bought off Steve Clancy this year (Albertfish on here)
January 3, 201114 yr i`d agree about this 7" has well, cracking tune The Esquires - Baba-Daba-Dop / Aint No Reason - B&G............................... (ignore the title!) two great tracks and cheap There other track:Girls in the city-The Esquires seems to get a few looking at the decks when played out has well. Still cheap to buy. Here`s a few from me: Love can be happy-E.K.O Top funky/modern dancer. Hot foxy women-Christian Plicque. If you like Heaven is my weakness- Ray Villar, your love this.Nice jazzy/Modern dancer. She`s the ideal girl-Jermaine Jackson.70`s modern dancer, getting asked to play this all the time now.You know it`s a tune when i played it at Monumental weekender and the picture cover /Sleeve went right right round to all the djs/collectors . Happy new year everyone.. Great choices, when you tire of the Jermaine Jackson flip it over for the superbly subtle "Im so glad she chose me"...........two great sides
January 3, 201114 yr Always a risk on threads like this that you could mention a played out oldie as a tip for the future. Here goes nothing... Here are three 'new to my ears' this year that i'd like to see get some main room attention next year. Pauline and Bobby - No Messin Around - Lovely thumping uptempo RnB sounding duet in the style of Mr Clean and Show Some Sign Bobby Banks - I'm A Batchelor - Fantastic gritty sound, reminds me a bit of Rod Keith, The Lord Said. Shirley Caeser - Stand The Storm - Perfect sound for now, uptempo female gospel/funk sound. Absolutely brilliant. Calvin Arnold - Lovely Way To Go - Blimey! This is fantastic, never heard it before this year, Pat Bleasdale play at Move On. Happy New Year everybody Calvin Arnold has been getting a fair amount of play over the last couple of years, great record I used to play it at Solid Hit & Dave Abbott was giving it some spins here & there a while back. Sure others must have picked up on it
January 3, 201114 yr i'd say bob & gene - i really really love you volumes - i've never been so in love cause of there are brilliant and prices are rising....
January 3, 201114 yr Here's a cheapie I've just come across, not sure if its's ever been played out but worth a spin IMO Gene Chandler & Barbara Acklin - Love Wont Start (Brunswick)
January 3, 201114 yr dynamic desires on mel.....great funky dancer ................known to a few discerning folk...... .....and i have heard the previously mentioned [by mike aka posstot ]. walking girl by ,the valiants played out to, got mine from mr j beggs a while ago... and for baz........... a certain gospel c/up i played him ..ez
January 3, 201114 yr Calvin Arnold has been getting a fair amount of play over the last couple of years, great record I used to play it at Solid Hit & Dave Abbott was giving it some spins here & there a while back. Sure others must have picked up on it me too ive had a copy and been playing it for a couple of years now
January 3, 201114 yr i'd say bob & gene - i really really love you volumes - i've never been so in love cause of there are brilliant and prices are rising.... Both top tunes that have been played off and on for ages but still to have their day. I would say Foreign Blue Renaisance is going to go massive this year. Mick H has been giving it some hammer but it is going to catch on big time. Mark my words

January 4, 201114 yr top tips for 2011 ? out of all the records dave thorley played at my house on new years eve before we headed off for the venue I would guess about ten...but then I forgot five (balme the following allnighter) and I bet the others I am not allowed to tell. Good to know how much brilliant stuff there still is to be found.

I'm actually amazed at how many new and 'previously unmentioned' tips have come through this year. Bit surprised though that we've not had many LP tracks suggested. There must be loads that folk are sitting on, especially now the scene has largely got over that '45 only' handicap. Thinking caps on folks! Let's have em! Sean

January 4, 201114 yr If LPs are ok and Gospel is acceptable these days - how about a Gospel album track from Fontella's mum: Martha Bass - Since I've been Born Again - Checker I'll stick up a youtube clip for now but will record the track and replace with a refosoul clip later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOcMOmbj5Ls
January 4, 201114 yr nope - mine label's fine I've seen good copies too, probably more copies with damage mind.
January 4, 201114 yr I'd like to hopefully get one in before the 100 Johnny Truitt - I'm Thru With You/Baby, I Need You - Abet A great double sider that I can never get tired of... i'm through with you just about shuiffles along at x-over pace. A brilliant double sider and well worth a mention. His best record ? my contribution for this thread and my best buy in 2010 has to be ray quarles "its gonna be all over" faces and david dee on time about that got some time in the spotlight as a semi known 60s. Proper northern IMO.
